"We ask ourselves, why are space-shooter suddenly not cool? Their popularity quickly died down." -- PlayStation Enthusiast

The best selling Call of Duty game proves how the Zombies game mode has become a crucial part of the franchise.
Actually for me , Black Ops 3 has one of the best Call of Duty campaigns I ever played. Not the original campaign. The Zombies campaign that unlocked after beating the original campaign. So much more fun running from zombies rather than the peek a boo hide behind a rock play style. .

The game catalog on Microsoft's premium subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, might finally be welcoming older Call of Duty titles.

The best shooter campaign since Half-Life 2 still hasn't been topped eight years later.
I agree with this. The time travel mechanics. The sense of scale. The relationship with your mech. The bosses all had personalities. It's a wonderful game.
Yeah it was good, but it only did the time travel bit in one level. Dishonered 2 did the same thing. Now how about a game where it's implemented throughout the gameplay? Singularity says Hello (and deserves so much more recognition).
I dont think they started hating them, I think it was more of a cost vs. sales thing for developers. Its a niche market and with games costing more and more to make, its hard for developers and publishers to take that risk. What I find odd, is that there are quite a few space shooters and flight combat games on iPad and Android that could make easy transfers over to consoles, that havent seen the light of day.
Its my favorite genre. Give me a great space shooter or flight combat game, with a force feedback flight stick and Ill play it for months, if not years. Cant wait for Ace Combat 7 and Elite.
Well with CoD it's the same thing that soiled so many franchises. If you want to make a sci-fi space shooter that's fine, but that's not what makes a CoD game, just call it something else. Just like resident evil and splinter cell were never supposed to be action games. You wanna make those games? Cool, but don't slap a beloved IP on it when it has pretty much abandoned all the core pillars that the series is known for.
And titanfall 2 was just smashed between Battlefield 1 and Infinite Warfare, but those who bought it love it
Perhaps gamers prefer more 'realistic' shooters or at least ones set on earth during the 20th or 21st centuries.
I agree with @theXtReMe1 in that what is missing are flight combat games. Ace Combat 7 is on the way, but a stand-alone game involving the Jackal from Infinite Warfare, or a proper X-Wing flight sim (both in VR) could do well. My dream game would be a VR remake of Colony Wars or G-Police.
it's probably because of destiny. I like the game, but the hype the game had was surreal and it couldn't live up to it, making so much hate the game. Next is star wars battlefront, the game turned out to be a beta, and then you have cod and I don't need to get into that. Space shooters just got a bad rep, we just need some star citizen.
