Couple days ago under the another news i just say something about Playstation 4 sales.

Base PS4 199$ and PS4 Pro 299$. If Sony keep price's low and keep support with First Party Studio games like Uncharted or Last Of Us or God Of War just name it, They can surpass Orijinal Playstation world wide sales number. I know it is hard to get PS2 sales record but they can achieve orijinal PS sales in next 3 years. But 300$ and over price they cannot be able to get 100 million sales next 3 years because Nintendo and Microsoft coming with new game console's on market next year.

Remember when we pretended the Wii didn't exist so we could argue over who sold (slightly) more 360/PS3 monthly, like it mattered.

I think the life cycle of the Xbox one will end in a year and we will never know how much it sold because Microsoft is so embarrassed of it that it may never reveal its sales.

There's no way in hell that the PS4 will out sell the PS2. With that being said, the PS4 sales are beyond impressive.

TIL n64 only sold 33 mil... wow. Here I thought it was probably on the higher end of consoles sold.

The ps5 will come on winter of 2018. Because the usual cycle of consoles is over. By that time you will get a cheap pro and the new ps5 to choose from.

It will be easy for sony to launch 12 to 14 teraflop machine at 399 in 2018

It already passed up super nintendo so thats a really good sign but with mobile gaming growing i cant say it will surpass the PS2.. Who knows though? Xbox did make its mark and is growing in popularity in the US however, im sure PS4 will outsell it easily.. Competition is good though.. It makes devs create exclusive titles to the best of their ability..

i think sony will not rush out the ps5 unless the ps4 sales start to decline besides they just put out a mid-gen upgrade ps4 pro so ps5 shouldnt be released til 2020

Playstation has too much direct competition now, it didn't in the ps2 era which is why it was able to reach those insane numbers. If ps4 could manage to pass ps1 numbers that would be awesome.

Ps5 better be a beast. Or come with a $600 top of the line version from the start. I don't want no mid upgrade again. I love the pro but I feel ripped off, because I would have bought from the beginning preferably than dishing out another $400 for a bit more power, two years later.

My guess for PS5: 2019/20. We will see another GTA on this generation, then Boom next gen and remaster ££££

World population in 1985 (NES) release. 4.8 billion. World population 2013 (PS4) release. 7.1 billion. Over 2 billion more people on the planet now.

I can see the PS4 passing the 100 million mark in its lifetime.

PS4 is going to sell 120 million units, lifetime. People who don't think it will outsell the Wii forget that the system has only been out for 3 years, and is just now seeing a noticeable price decrease, yet it has already passed the 50 million threshold. As more games like God of War, Spider-Man, and Death Stranding release, combined with further drops in price, PS4 will easily see that 120 million units. Next year is probably going to be it's peak year where it sells over 20 million for the year. It's already going to be at 55 million shipped before New Years. Plus, with Pro coming into the picture and increasing the lifetime of the hardware, that will help it's sales decline in 2018 and beyond be more smooth.

Also, not a chance in hell of there being a PS5 by 2018. That's too short, especially considering Pro being around and the PS4 being a sales beast regardless. I'd say late 2019 at the earliest for PS5.

This is in only 3 years time. If you triple that to match how long the other consoles were in business, it would be 150 MILLION yo...

I don't see why some have the view of a PS5 in 2018. The whole point of the console refresh is to extend the generation life cycle without the fatigue of still having launch consoles. Sony is not going to consistently pump out new consoles every 2 to 3 years. Pro will push this generation out for an extra 4 years and anyone with a launch console that is getting fatigued with dated hardware can buy a Pro.

As for console sales, amazing achievement on Sony's behalf. I honestly did not think we would ever see a generation with PS2 level domination and here we are seeing the PS4 raise the bar.

I really thought the Wii sold more units, it's crazy to see the PS1 has sold more than that tiny white box... Of course it did have the glorious FF7.

My money on that ps4 will sell more than the PS1 but less than the PS2.

As I said before this gen of consoles is just crazy ass hell. So now we have back to back off settings of console generation. Last gen we saw the first close to ten year cycle that both have said, and in this gen we witnessing mid gen cycle upgrades(slims from both dont count).

For this to have any value, really should have taken account into the sales numbers versus year from launch.
And, consider gamer population growth, even if you choose to exclude mobile gamers.

Would be a better representation of how the sales are stacking up against the previous gens champs.

Gaming is in a different landscape now than it was then, so this comes as no surprise. Now what would make this list interesting is a adjustment for inflation type list, except it's adjusted for how big the market is now for the older consoles. Movies have an inflation list, why not video games?

Don't get me wrong I own a PS4 but why it's selling so much is beyond me but the answer is pretty obvious. What Sony fell into is a gen of kids growing up and in need of the latest console , I easily see more Sony advertisement compared to Microsoft. I've had both but sold my x1 , there was just something I just didn't like about it, the interface stuff here and there. We all know it isn't selling because of there games because finally now there stuff coming but these past few years have been crap, why it's selling is beyond me

Lol, this graph is based on the gaming community population of today which is probably 1000% greater than it was in the 1990s. PS4 is selling a lot if units, but we should have a ratio based on the population of "gamers" to the units sold. This would also include mobile devices.

i wonder how remastered games - crash etc - will boost the sales on ps 4

PS5's release date is a wait and see even for Sony. If PS4 and PS4Pro keep selling well even after the competition with Switch or Scorpio and 3rd party supports keep flowing, i think we should not expect PS5 very soon even after the PS4's lifecycle has gone to 5 years...
2018 - Impossible (that's why they make Pro...)
2019 - low to moderate probability (by that time, Pro's lifecycle will be 2 years...)
2020 - very high probability (with PS4 still getting quite strong supports from 1st and 3rd parties)

Need to start closing down articles like these, no relevance to games.

Wow, and the PS4 is going to be around for a while so I'd be interested to see where it's at in a couple years, or heck, even next year.
