It's only the US and UK where XB1 has won a few months with cuts and the new Slim. When MS start taking Playstation's lead and focusing on GAMES then we may see a difference.

In terms of numbers, yes, it will probably wipe most (if not all) of any gains the X1 made in those months. And, this is just November. December will widen the PS4's US total lead.

I read that article, it fails to mention that whilst Xbox was "winning" it was being outsold by 120,000 a week worldwide.

How is losing on a slightly smaller scale than normal a "turning point"?

The gap is still growing, it's now at a ratio of 1.8:1 instead of 2:1.

What's crazier is that they were losing by ~120,000 units a week globally whilst claiming a victory.

Sony could show the Japanese sales figures and claim victory every month, but they're too classy for that.

Last week PS4 sold over 31,000 units in Japan, XboxOne sold 237 in total.

That is a far bigger margin than MS has ever had over Sony in the States.

What the heck does record engagement mean? Those people over at Microsoft sure like to throw big words around and disguise people from the truth. There were 40% more players online YOY huh? Sounds like a decline to me. Anything less than 100% would indicate a decline in sales. Considering the gap between 40 and 100, it doesn't seem the console has been selling as well as they'd like us to believe.

How's that for an analysis?! Next time please come at us with something more concrete MS, like how many zombies were killed in spaceland, or how many guns were swapped in Halo, or how many melée attacks were executed in Battlefield.

Either I don't understand what you are talking about or you aren't very good at math. You have 100 players online last year. You have 40% more online this year. This means you have 140 players online this year. Not a decline.

Meaning that if you have those 100 people and you gain 40%more, yes you have 140, but the momentum which you gained people has gone down. So let's say that those theoretical 100 people represent 2 years on the market, and now at 40% they have 140. You don't see how the numbers went down? Obviously you're never going to always have 100% or better growth and I'd advise companies against that. I'm only saying that the rate at which they gained players shows that they didn't sell as many X1s as they want us to believe. Especially considering how they were selling more in the last year than they have previously.

And actually, math was my best subject. Where I said anything less than 100% would be a decline would only really work in year 2, but the X1 was supposedly selling so great this year. The numbers I'm seeing say otherwise

Did you see a story not that long ago where the X1 had this huge percentage jump and people were claiming how well they were doing because of it? Some people were ripping on Sony because they had a smaller number and automatically jumped at "MS is better because my numbers are biggah!!" When you have a lower initial install base it's easier to have a bigger percentage jump. Same thing that's going on here. I hope that clears it up 👍🏻

I'm sorry but no matter how you are trying to spin it, there was growth in players online. Now maybe there is a decline in the rate of which they are gaining players online, but the actual players online increased. I don't think you are going to see either console increase players online more than 50% yoy this many years into this generation.

At least I see your motivation of trying to get back at people for saying bad things about Sony with your last paragraph.

Expect Xbone sales to start massively dwindling in January 2017 and this will continue every month until the saviour GDDR5 Scorpio is released. It happened to PS4 in August this year after Sony confirmed the Neo's existence at E3 2016 but they wouldn't be showing it yet until Sep and then launching it in Nov. What happened PS4 sales is proof of this.

Microsoft announcing the Scorpio so early is going to come back to bite them severely going into the first 6 months of next year.

I wish it did have a uhd player actually!!! Disappointed that it did not. Luckly if I want a console I buy it, so I also bought xbone s for the uhd and bought forza 3 and gears 4. They were both really cool and I was really impressed actually gears and forza in hdr wow!!! But other then that Not much. always being a Sony gamer I felt really bad for people who just have an xbox!!!! I don't understand what you play??? There's no exclusives just a handful and 2 or 3 are good...what are you guys always trying to defend???? I love the Xbox for what i use it for and to see the potential with gears and forza, I don't get why they don't make games!!! It's like Sony is Marvel and MS is DC like get it right!! How many reboots??? Just make a game, it would help sell systems!!!!!

At the moment UHD blurays are really rather expensive, they are around €30 here while regular blurays go for €15 to €20. I've stopped buying physical movies when bluray was announced, yes, it is way better, nice and all, but already replaced my VHS collection with DVDs and wasn't going to do that again, and frankly, am glad I didn't since now they are in 4k, yeah, no.

So I really don't care all that much that there's no UHD player in the Pro. As for available content, well, it's actually even worse around here on Netflix and the likes, hence why not many people feel the need to switch to 4k TVs already.

There is something interesting going on tho, perhaps Sony knew about that since they own movie studios as well, there are plans in the US to release new movies on select streaming services TWO WEEKS after they've been released at the movies. For a price of 2 movie tickets you can then watch it at your home and if they are smart they will do this also in 4k. Two movie tickets is about the same price as an UHD bluray around here, honestly, if I really wanted to see a movie I think I would do that instead. No more going to the movies, just stay at your comfy home, ahhhh.

Anyhoo, I digress, this was the whole point of me replying, this way new movies are available WAY, WAY SOONER streaming than they are on disc.......

What content are you streaming?? Just curious because where I live the only one streaming 4k is Netflix and the selection is a joke. And the Xbox uhd looks unbelievable better then any streaming me or my friends have seen. Might be cheaper in Netflix but they have 2-4 actual full length movies that are crap, a whole whack of living art, stand up, and Netflix shows.... And not a single title on 4k Netflix looks even close to star trek or the shallows or the revenant or ECT..... @letsa_go. Letsa get one thing straight!! Xbox one s is the first console I've bought from them and it was for uhd. I'm a Sony gamer first and foremost always have always will. But you see my mind is open. I'm not ignorant like a child you see. I prefer Sony for so many reasons over ms, I've always just liked Sony games more. So yes I can tell the difference in 4k streaming vs uhd on my 4k hdr and why??? Because I have every option of format and I see it first-hand from streaming 4k to uhds. Yeah, TLG looks gorgeous. The pre-release gameplay videos did look like an early PS3 title (minus Trico, which PS3 could not have rendered like that), but the final product running at ~1900p on PS4Pro with HDR is fantastic--way better than the pre-release videos.

The reason why I was sceptical is because I made a wager with one of my friends telling him that Sony will take the lead over MS in sales come November do to the PS4Pro and the only reason MS sold more for a few months is because of the Xbox One S. But he said there is no way because people want a 4K player more. So I needed concrete proof that I could show him and just a statement that could mean anything does not statisfy him. When you find the exact numbers for any other month in the last two or so years, then we can show you the numbers for Sony/MS. The fact is, it seems either extremely ignorant for you to ask for specific numbers on just this month and looks like you have a stupid bet on your hand that you're just going to have to deal with not winning because apparently your friend isn't really a friend OR it seems that you're trolling by trying to insinuate anything other than a win for Sony in the month of November by no one having the exact numbers.

And we are. NPD doesn't make any of this public, people who pay NPD for info make what figures we have public, typically through an insider posting those on Twitter or NeoGAF or the like. But, even then, they don't provide all the details nor does NPD track all sales.

People were waiting on pro that's why Xbox did well now for 4 months but winning 4 months still added to overall sales of ps4. Isn't it amazing that Xbox one can outsells ps4 yet still lose ground overall

everytime sony anounces a new exclusive or a huge multiplatform game dlc you can thank sales. you realize how easy it is for sony to nogotiate devs to be exclusive. all they have to say is we sell over double of every multiplatform game and have a 50 million install base so going exclusive with us has not much risk.

Honestly, well deserved. I'm sure the PS4 Pro helped push them over the top. Buying the PS4 Pro is worth it just to play Uncharted 4 with the best possible graphics. The game is a masterpiece and the PS4 Pro is the best way to play it.

While Xbox One S still has more games that I want to play, nothing on that system comes close to Uncharted 4. This is an awesome generation to be a multi console gamer.

As many had predicted. Not a lull in PS4 dominance. Merely a waiting period for PS4 Pro. Once again now the Pro is in the wild and PS4 is back to dominance. No more waiting. People are buying at the regular rate vs Xbox once again in the North America region. In fact next month gap will most likely widen towards PS4. Growing only bigger until Scorpio helps Xbox finally stop at least a little of that momentum. It will be too late by then though. Way too late and will only help with a minor bump. Scorpio is doomed.

The PS4 "lost" the previous months due to pre-orders for the Pro. The Pro was best selling on Amazon for months, but all these sales counted towards November. Plus the Ps4 had a good holiday!

Wait, perhaps i'm incorrect for that I don't follow Microsoft as close as an xbox fan does because I don't own one. But seeing xbox games require you to download the games from the xbox marketplace store on PC, one would need an Xbox live account to do so correct? And seeing that PC gamers are playing Forza, quantum break, gears etc. isn't it easy to realize that alot of these 'Gamers" from this 40% are actually PC gamers playing xbox games? I said that to say, don't believe numbers people companies have a great way of fabricating them to make it seem like this or that.

I'm not just taking shots at Microsoft, Sony is guilty of this too along with CNN, FOX, Walmart, Gamestop, Etc. etc.

Why even waste time with this news. Only blind gamers thought that it was changing. The same that are in the clouds, that believe in dx12 game changer, esram, bc, dgpu and thenext wait for it willbe the scorpio! That believe in all the pr crap from spencer and biggest exclusives in history of gaming.

It doesnt matter all the payed news againts sony and so on, because gamers worldwide arent that blind.

Sony will end this gen with 3 or 4 times more consoles on the market even if microsoft is going next gen with scorpio

The best thing for the industry is for both competitors to be doing very well. So this back and forth between Sony & Microsoft claiming victories this year is very good for the industry! Hopefully it translates into a lot of investment into great games to compete with each other. That's really all we can hope for as gamers :) I'm looking forward to playing The Last Guardian, which should be arriving any day now!

Shows that the release of new consoles is very effective. Maybe we will continue to see upgrades every 2 yrs. Originally I thought it would be too tough to continue to do this because certain games would eventually be unplayable on earlier consoles. But this may not be true. With PS Now, XboxOne's BC and Remasters, there is very little that isn't playable anymore.

Let's say we do get something akin to the mobile phone strategy. We pay x amount each month and every 2 yrs we have the choice to upgrade for $200. Next yr we see the Scorpio. In 2018, we get a PSwhatever w 9 teraflops and so on.

This would allow consoles to keep up. Many games would still be playable on PS4 and devs and publishers would choose based on player base if it's worth creating for certain hardware. For most games would simply look better, have better textures. There would be many more used PS4's, Pros etc for those who don't want the latest and greatest, though subsidized would make them like getting a new phone every 2 yrs.

PS4 Pro has been available for pre-order since September. Was it any surprise when 3 months of pre-order were due in November Sony would win the month. Would love to know PS4 vs PS4 Pro breakdown. If PS4 by itself sold more that would be news.
