Quote: Yesterday we talked about Overwatch's PlayStation 4 Pro patch, which only adds superficial improvements. Today, it's the turn of Batman: Return to Arkham.

"for ps4 pro i'm hoping sony reconsiders it's stand on locking down base software to utilize pro power on existing games"

it is clear even in walled garden consoles that with the xbox one s it is still possible. sony even took advantage of the ps2 hardware to improve ps1 games back in the day. what this video also shows is how the cpu is still a bottleneck on the ps4 pro as the game still struggles.

Nitrowolf23464d ago (Edited 3463d ago )

I know the cpu will be a bottleneck, but let's wait and see for games that are built ground-up with pro.

Batman Arkham games in general are unoptimuzed even on pc.

I'd like to see what the console can really do with some true optimization

I know they mention that it's only just 15 frames on average for an improvement but I will take that over more constant 30 below dips on base

@moldy

Not a lot of developers are going to go back and update their games unless there's some sort of online support still driving on it. It cost them money to do it.

You're not just going to see improvements to just regular first-party titles though you will see improvements over third party games I mean they're some of the best looking ones out there available over the supported PS4 for pro.

OverWatch doesn't really benefit other than having a cleaner look because textures and everything are pretty low looking to begin with and you're going to see that with a lot of old games. A game built from ground up with Pro and mine is going to be able to handle better textures while they can still down for the base unit

It's silly not to think otherwise though that's like saying that the PS4 and Xbox One reach their Peak right at launch. Of course that's not true because Developers optimize later and get used to what's given to them

CPU is 31% faster on Pro.

Take a look at Tomb Raider on a 4K HDR. It is stunning, now imagine games built with Pro in mind.

unfortunately that doesn't matter on the majority of games since sony blocked that extra power and throttled the system back to make sure everything runs the same. this game being the odd exception for some reason. so unless developers use that increase it is a waste. the ps4 has over 1200 games and how many are using that extra power that ps4 pro users can notice a difference, 40 games so far?

i know that list will grow over time but i doubt only just a few from the back catalog will. even games like overwatch that have been announced as getting a pro update really don't offer much of an upgrade. sure, that's on the developer being lazy but those other 1,200 games is because of sony forcing the system back until a developer goes back and updates the game.

ShadowKnight3464d ago (Edited 3464d ago )

I'm more interested in the upcoming Sony exclusives. I wanna see how those games turn out before I say the cpu will still be a bottleneck.

@Moldybread read nitrowolf comment. Exclusive games that's built from the ground up. Optimization is always the key.

freshslicepizza3464d ago

that depends on the game. horizon will look beautiful but is it really an open world and if so will the pro enable smoother gameplay? besides how can we use sony's first party games as a guideline, they can just create games that dont push the cpu. i think a better guideline would be something that is also on the pc that uses a lot of the cpu and the developer also uses the etra resources on the ps4 pro. the fact is the cpu is only clocked a bit higher on the pro and most of the upgrade is on the gpu.

IamTylerDurden13464d ago

The GPU is doubled and the CPU is 31% faster. Many games offer a high framerate or a 4K mode. Games look gorgeous on Pro and it's nice to play Tomb Raider, Second Son, 1st Light, Knack, Helldivers ect at 60fps. Games like FFXV and Nioh are confirmed to have targeted 60fps modes as well.

Pro is the most powerful console by a mile and the most impressive looking Pro games haven't even been 1st party games. Tomb Raider and BF1.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing17d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9217d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit17d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing17d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9217d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
