We May Not Get Titanfall 3

Titanfall 2 has been critically acclaimed well, however sales have been suffering do to poor timing. Is this enough to prevent a third entry in the series?

So is this the fault of EA and the dev team for first semi-exclusive game, or multi-system fans for not buying this one?

UnHoly_One3465d ago (Edited 3465d ago )

I was a huge fan of the first and didn't buy this one partly because I'm burnt out on my multiplayer shooters after playing tons of Overwatch.

Also I was hoping they would stick with the multiplayer focus and make the biggest baddest multiplayer out there instead of bothering with a campaign.

I play other games for my story fix, I don't need it from a game like this.

Kingthrash3603465d ago

All they had to do was launch it during the summer drought.
But nooooooo.....they thought let's compete with the heavy hitters.

UnHoly_One3465d ago

I guess they overestimated it's selling power.

They gambled and thought they could match up with the big dogs and they were wrong.

_-EDMIX-_3464d ago

I mean from what I've heard the SP was made in about 2 years (if anyone can find the link to that story). It means that was more added on then the MP.

I get your playing other MP titles and don't have the time, but I don't think a SP actually is going to hurt anything they've done in the MP considering the SP sounds added on, not the MP ie the main focus on TF2's development.

You can still buy TF2 for its MP and not play its SP.

SimpleYet_Not3464d ago

Overwatch and T2 is two different games

UnHoly_One3464d ago

I know they are completely different, I just don't ever play more than one multiplayer game at a time like that.

I go all in on one until I'm sick of it, then I'm on to the next thing, which is probably something single player for awhile until I'm ready to go back to multi.

I burnt myself out on Overwatch. I didn't even buy Gears 4 yet because I don't have any desire for another shooter.

And I know that the very fact that a solo campaign exists does not make the multiplayer worse. I wouldn't really NOT buy it just on account of that, it just aggravates me because it seems like something they did just to make the crybabies happy. The same crybabies that never bought the first game and probably wouldn't buy this one regardless.

I'm just sick of companies trying to do everything and make everyone happy instead of focusing on being the best at ONE thing.

The dev apparently didn't know about the console exclusivity till after it was announce. I blame EA for this. One of the developers mention how the launch date was set in stone and couldn't be changed. Basically the suits upstairs decided and wasn't going to change their minds.

Imho this game could've been pushed back to Q1 2017 but I guess this is just the business side of gaming.

AuraAbjure3465d ago

What console exclusivity?

ZeroX98763464d ago (Edited 3464d ago )

@rockwhynot

he's mentioning Titanfall 1. Since PS4 owners didn't get to play the first one in the series, I can understand why they wouldn't be as much hyped as X1/PC owners who did play the first entry.
To this, add the fact that BF1 and Cod IW was released at the same time and you get the sales that Titanfall 2 is doing right now.

seanpitt233465d ago (Edited 3465d ago )

I bought bf1 and I havnt even got the time to play that only at weekends and thats still pretty fresh and new. What's the point in buying cod and tf2 when most havnt got the time or the money for 3 games.

The case is the people with the Time have no money. For the people who have no time due to work has money but no time to play unless your rich and thats a minority.
The point is EA shot themselves in the foot releasing it bang in between them they should of released it early next year when we would have got bored of bf1 and cod. But I wouldnt buy cod this year anyway even if I had the time.

lipton1013464d ago

Jesus Christ you hit the nail on the head. I'm firmly in your camp. I'll admit, I have the money, I bought TF2, BF1 and IW/MW, but have 0 time because of my awful work schedule. I remember being young and penny less wishing I had more money. I certainly got what I wished for, just wish I was happier because of it. Instead I'm full on adult unfortunately

ZeroX98763464d ago

@Lipton101 & @Seanpitt23

Same for me, I'm not buying more than 1 game a month since I don't have enough time to play them anymore. Plus if it's a multiplayer game, less reasons to buy another one of the same genre too!

Well said Sean.

lipton1013464d ago

EA screwed the pooch here. I bet they (respawn) angered someone high up that screwed them.

_-EDMIX-_3464d ago

It was also a new IP. Many former exclusives that went multiplat many times over still went on to do well.

JBlaze2263464d ago

I bought mine but everyone is so riding the Battlefield and Infinite warfare train so I blame EA for dropping it so close to close even though Im not worried about COD or Battlefield since their all the same

Timing wasn't great being around Gears 4, BF 1, COD: IW, etc. not to mention other shooters like RB6: Siege that are still going strong. Plus TF2 kind of repeated the mistake of wanting to push their season pass, so they feel compelled to sell x million of copies early. So when sales disappoint they rush price drops in order to sell more season passes. Star Wars Battlefront ran into that too.

Plus truthfully Titanfall 2 simply isn't that great. It looks and plays like a budget cod. And the addition of the short campaign doesn't make up for that. Lastly, I also think the wall-running parkour gimmick in fps is a bit played out. It works in certain games like Dying Light where you're running away from enemies. But in fps I can do without it and prefer old fashioned ground combat like BF 1.

Toiletsteak3465d ago

Titanfall 2 doesn't have a season pass. All DLC is free.

WellyUK3465d ago

it looks and plays like a budget cod... Oh dear how wrong can you be?

_-EDMIX-_3464d ago

Agreed.

They could have named this Call Of Duty Mechs and I'm pretty sure folks would simply think its a new take on COD. This team MADE Call Of Duty, pretty sure they can produce a COD level experience seeing how they've made COD level experiences lol

MegaMohsi3465d ago

this fool clearly has no idea what he's talking about, plays nothing like COD, no season pass. Nice try troll.

DA_SHREDDER3464d ago

Not great? Dude it's the best shooter this generation.

_-EDMIX-_3464d ago

"not to mention other shooters like RB6: Siege that are still going strong" ???

SO this game was just never suppose to come out? What if RB6 kept getting more popular? So just never release TF2?

How about 2018? OH RB6 sequel is coming out, Destiny 2, Call Of Duty...how about 2019? Do you guys legit not get that if someone is really saying RB6 was going to mess with TF2 sales, that this game legit has NO SHOT of doing well based on that logic.

So apparently for TF2 to do well zero games must be out? What does that say about TF2?

"Plus truthfully Titanfall 2 simply isn't that great. It looks and plays like a budget cod. And the addition of the short campaign doesn't make up for that"

Don't agree. Not what I've heard. I get its not good enough in regards to outsell COD, but it having a short campaign I don't think has to do with its sales. COD is known for having short campaigns bud.

"Plus TF2 kind of repeated the mistake of wanting to push their season pass" The issue people have with a season pass is merely the price. Their price is free.....

So I don't get the relevance to your point. At least look up TF2 before making comments about its sales, this is all about facts, not about subjective views (especially ones that are uneducated)

OpieWinston3465d ago

It did release in a moment where people already had BF1/Gears 4. And others were waiting for CoD MW.

So Titanfall was kind of sandwiched in. And it showed in the NPD.

Pathogenic3465d ago (Edited 3465d ago )

I think Sony should give Zam the same treatment as they did with Kojima. This guy has amazing talent and all they did was piss on his work by releasing it at the worst time. Honestly let's get this into Sony.

lipton1013464d ago

It seems like he has a big head from the numerous interviews I've read. I'd double down on that statement when considering EA screwed him by releasing his game at such an awful time. He was screwed, pure and simple. My question is, what did he say or do to piss off the suits above to warrant such a slap in the face?

Gamist2dot03464d ago

Looking at how Sony handles releases of previous games, I agree and think Sony should look into this. Activision, Ubisoft, EA, and MS all love the fall and winter launches whether their games are ready or not.

I agree with this. The time travel mechanics. The sense of scale. The relationship with your mech. The bosses all had personalities. It's a wonderful game.

mastershredder736d ago

Yeah it was good, but it only did the time travel bit in one level. Dishonered 2 did the same thing. Now how about a game where it's implemented throughout the gameplay? Singularity says Hello (and deserves so much more recognition).

Never say never, I really didn't expect to ever see Space Marine 2 and 12 years later its almost here.
So there is still hope for all these games.

Chocoburger824d ago

I've completed 5 of the games on the list, but the author forgot to include Advent Rising. It was supposed to be a trilogy, but it bombed hard, and the two sequels never got made. It was Mass Effect, a console generation before Mass Effect.

The game is buggy and unpolished, it needed a few more months of development, but the potential was there. At the end of the game, you have all these super abilities, I remember the stomp attack that created a shockwave being especially powerful.

shinoff2183824d ago

I personally think days gone will recieve some sort of sequel at some point. I'm personally also hoping it's not the rumored multiplayer online stuff. I'd think most that enjoyed it would rather thisnto.

Knightofelemia823d ago

Sony needs to dust off Sly Cooper and Days Gone so needs a sequel two of my favorite Sony titles. Bulletstorm I love great game wish it also got a sequel. And I wish Namco would finally give Enslaved a sequel another great game.
