How the Xbox Changed Gaming Forever

Taken from IM PLAYIN

"The Xbox is 15 years old and we still can’t quite believe that so many years have gone by. I mean, how has it been 15 years! Let's celebrate the OG Xbox.

Despite favouring the PlayStation this generation, I have a lot of love for the Xbox brand. It’s great to be able to celebrate any milestone in gaming that shows how far the games, consoles and the gamers have come.

Here are 3 of my favorite things about the OG Xbox"

Thats right, DLC, pay to play online and the most savage war between gamers, because of silly PR and mine is biggest then yours.

Hoffmann3476d ago

dlc..pay to play online and making timed exclusive games and extras a trend. =/

It is difficult for me to like Microsoft because of these reasons.

Imalwaysright3476d ago

They didn't make it a trend. They did it for their consoles and that's it. Not their fault if others decided to follow on the same path. Is it difficult for you to like those same others?

Also, its better for us to have timed exclusives than having paid 3rd party full exclusivity like Sony has been doing since the PS1 days. At least with timed exclusives gamers that own and prefer to play on other consoles get to play those games. Late, but they get to play them.

"the most savage war between gamers"

No even close. Sega literally put out ads calling Nintendo "crap"

Concertoine3476d ago (Edited 3476d ago )

Not to mention this is about the first Xbox which wasn't even close to a war because the PS2 was so dominant. Back then consoles actually had indentity and owning both was worthwhile.

People generally bought a Xbox for PC ports, better multiplats and XBL.

People bought a PS2 for sony exclusives and better Japanese support.

@Concertoine

And what has changed exactly?! In a year or so we will have the exact same situation.

It is still a good system. Many of the things that it did seem almost inevitable that they were going to happen at some point. It just happened to be MS that took those chances. Some worked and others not so much but overall it is a good system.

The original Xbox is one of the best consoles I've ever had. Initially became an Xbox fan because that is where the oddworld series transfered there, then games like KOTOR and Ninja Gaiden, etc. But Microsoft is a garbage company and what they used the 360 era for merely has turned the gaming industry into a complete disaster. Who would have thought if you let a monopolizing monster in they would completely try and destroy the industry, but we did. Hopefully this doesn't happen again.

You voted for Trump so...

Maybe you forget that DLC used to be repackaged into full priced games calling them reduxes, collections, special editions, or some other subtitle. Yea, Street FIghter is notorious for this. Waaay before MS got into the gaming industry.

Sony have been buying up exclusive content in their versions of games and making 3rd party games exclusive to their console before MS as well. Eventually pushing Nintendo and Sega out of the gaming industry. How's that old saying go? When you point a finger, 3 are pointing back at you.

To me the original Xbox was like the dreamcast's ps4 pro if you like. Looking at it now it's a Shame that the potential partnership didn't happen between Sega and Microsoft where the Xbox was gonna play dreamcast games. Maybe Sega would of still been a major player today.

Hoffmann3476d ago

Yeah...and maybe we would have had (is that correct English?) more sequels to older Sega game series. Maybe Shenmue 3 in 2004 instead of Yakuza in 2005 lol..maybe a really cool Streets of Rage 4.

If that partnership would have been a thing, I had 4 consoles at home instead of the PS3 and 4 now.

Sega and Xbox would have been a dream come true I bet. Damn it never happened as planned and all the shit by Microsoft happened instead.

Errorist763476d ago

Your English is better than his...

SegaGamer3476d ago

The original Xbox was nothing like a Dreamcast to me or like a Sega console, mainly because of the games that were available. The original Xbox is far too westernised compared to a Sega console.

I do agree that it would have been good if Microsoft and Sega had partnered up back then. I think it would have been good for the both of them. Microsoft would be doing far better in Japan and with gamers who love Sega games around the world. I also think Microsoft would have done a better job getting Sega games noticed. Sega seem so distant with their fanbase these days, you rarely hear anything from them. Their PR team sucks and it has done for some time now. It's like they are looking to get by with little effort. With the way things are going, in 10 years time people will be saying "Sega who ?"

ccgr3476d ago

Never bothered with the original Xbox since the games on it were on PC as well.

Hoffmann3476d ago

It had around 10-20 pretty good games that did not make it to the PC or Playstation, like Jet Set Radio Future, Shenmue 2 and the almost forgotten but great Panzer Dragoon Orta.

Those Sega games for it were THE reason for me to buy the xbox back in 2002

Goldby3476d ago

ill take Jet grind radio over set.

dreamcast ftw over original xbox. mainly due to the JRPGs it had

1Victor3476d ago

Congrats to Xbox on their 15th anniversary and on the good changes they did on the console gaming community. Too bad Microsoft will be remembered forthright bad stuff like forcing online pay to play and faulty hardware

Seems a bit late but you never know. Lies of P got a dlc way later

MayorPauline62d ago

I don't see Capcom revisiting the game outside of a Switch 2 port. It under-performed and generally when that happens any potential future content goes bye-bye.
