The PS4 Pro Makes Me Hope The Xbox Scorpio Is Something More

All of this is to say that while PS4 Pro certainly works as a better performing console, it makes forbes hope that the Xbox Scorpio, due out a year from now, ends up being substantially more than this. Forbes already know that Microsoft is gunning for even more power than Sony, but the system still isn’t being treated like an entirely new console, indicating that a generational leap forward is still out of reach, four years after the launch of the original Xbox One.

UCForce3490d ago

Well, that's how is gonna be, Forbes. But I will stick with my PlayStation. It's your choice to choose Scorpio over PS4 Pro. I respect that, but still I can't get over with your previous articles. You posted article is very unprofessional. More importantly, it's like you don't want people to buy Pro which I understand the system is not perfect at launch, but it isn't a disaster console which you try to think it is, but it's not. "Sigh" You only hurting yourself, Forbes. DUELSHOCKER is much better than you and GamingBolt. They don't start console war, but they do bring very valid information and mostly focus positive news. Not just them, some other websites are much better. You need to learn to be a better journalist.

Eonjay3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

But the problem with Forbes is that since they obviously have a vendetta against Sony they opinion is a worthless as ThisGenGaming. Sorry bloggers but there can only be one GamingBolt!

Also, as a side note, Microsoft never said anything about a generational leap forward (which isn't possible with 4k alone). I see Project Scorpio as a pit stop between Pro and PS5

Genuine-User3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

You heard him (author) Microsoft, the man wants something more.

Project Scorpio will be the all in one home appliance system. It will help you control your heating, lights, security, dishwasher, refrigerator, etc.

It might even order you a pizza.

freshslicepizza3490d ago

Forbes has a vendetta against Sony? Why would they, are they owned by Microsoft or something? It really highlights the problem with being too fanatical when you accuse anyone or any public site as having an agenda if they don't constantly praise something.

Perhaps they don't see much of an upgrade, is that really going to hurt your enjoyment?

JackBNimble3490d ago

Moldy
You don't have to be owned by MS to push their agenda, does MS own you?

DLConspiracy3489d ago (Edited 3489d ago )

In the beginning of this gen it was pretty clear Forbes didn't like xbox. Now its PS. The people who write for Forbes online are all separate writers. It's not an agenda. Not everyone is impressed with it. It's OK if you are though. I've seen hardcore PS reviewers say similar things about Pro.

Forbs.....the wanna be gaming jornalist.

bouzebbal3489d ago

some people choose their consoles by the games it offers.. others go for the power over everything else and i will never understand it.
xbox has maybe one game that can justify the purchase, they are lacking so much in this department but instead of developing good exclusives they release a more powerful device.. the lack of games problem is still there.

Sitdown3489d ago

bouzebbal
Just stop...... Forza, Halo, and Gears have all been system sellers. Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Recore, Titanfall were some good exclusives. You act like mashing exclusives games and a more powerful console can't take place at the same time. No need to lie just because the xbox isn't your cup of tea.

If the Pro's jump from regular PS4/xbox one doesnt impress, prepare to be dissapointed by the even smaller power bump of the Scorpio over the Pro (in a years time).

demonddel3490d ago

How u figure that when you don't even know the full specs of the Mighty Scorpio

lnfiniteLoop3490d ago

your assuming MS are gonna stick with the original Scorpio suggested specs... you never know they might crank it up some more (which I hope they do)... as long as they give a big bang for your buck, I dont think anything below £600 will be an unfair price to pay as long as it can handle full 4K well without mucking about...

UCForce3490d ago

@demonddel And Do you think Scorpio going to be a perfect machine ? And @InfiniteLoop Making a true 4K game is not going be easy.

3490d ago
Kribwalker3490d ago

Well the pro is about 2.3x more power then the PS4 and the scorpio is an entire PS4 more powerful then that (3.3x) so I'd definitely expect a bigger jump then

BizarroUltraman3490d ago

But it will be a bigger leap over Xbox One which is more important. Im content with the PS4 Pro and Xbox Scorpio is a ways out.

Also if we just for one second not try to look at this article in a negative way. There are some who are not as impressed with the Pro as you and I.
And theres nothing wrong with that.

jaymacx3490d ago

To be fair its the comparison of moving from the standard xbox to scorpio not pro to scorpio but even so if it has 4k blu ray and more native 4k support than it would likely impress an existing Xbox one owner. Plus we don't know what else MS has in store with this thing.

Babadook73490d ago

What's a bigger jump?
1.84 -> 4.20
Or
4.20 -> 6?

If 2.28x is minor don't get excited about 1.43x as it will be nonexistent.

AngelicIceDiamond3490d ago

Just like how ppl made a tremendous deal out of the small amount of power between the vanilla X1 and PS4? wasn't that disappointing after all?

Lennoxb633490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

It's not a small bump. The Scorpio so far is the equivalent of a Pro with a regular PS4 inside it.

XanderZane3489d ago

I'm sure people will look at the jump between the OG XBox One and the Scorpio first. Then look at the PS4 Pro after.

XanderZane3489d ago

@Babadook7
If you are only going by TF in terms of power between 2 system, then you are a lost troll. There will be other components that make the Scorpio more powerful besides the 6.0TF.

sammarshall1023489d ago (Edited 3489d ago )

The whole reason Scorpio didn't launch next to the Pro is because Microsoft wanted a bigger upgrade

ludicrous3489d ago

@S2killinit

So if I don't get the Ps4pro, but get the scorpio instead (ps4/xbox to scorpio), wouldn't that be even more impressive than a jump from ps4/xbox to ps4pro?

andrewsquall3489d ago

EXACTLY. And Scorpio shares the same architecture with PS4 unlike the beastly difference there has ALWAYS been between standard PS4 and Xbone as proven by the stunning PS4 exclusives that also still output at full HD native resolutions too.

I just don't see how people keep calling Scorpio beastly/mighty, its hilarious, there is a new person that does it every day. Its slightly more powerful than Pro and is going to be inevitably held back by the incredibly weak ddr3 Xbone. The one big boost it has is the 4gbs of extra onboard memory, 2 of which will probably be wasted again on OS features when Windows 11 (Vista 3.0) comes out next year lol.

@XanderZane Case and point. There sure is going to be other upgrades for Scorpio but it sharing the same GDDR5 architecture as PS4 Pro (finally) isn't going to exactly push it as far apart as something like the original PS4 and Xbone now will it?

The only thing I'm depressed about now is that the likes of Red Dead 3 and the next Assassins Creed are STILL going to be held back graphically by the ddr3 weak Xbone. They literally had to go back and build a "next gen" Assassins Creed game engine from the ground up after screwing it all up the first time and it STILL has to support the most incapable machine. What a waste. Even PS4 owners will still be suffering from this.
Thank goodness we have PlayStation exclusives though that prove the GDDR5 and CPU functions running on the GPU like Cerny told devs to do at the PS4 launch (but 3rd parties never listened) was a good choice.

Tussin1873490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

Well, I hope it is better since it's coming out a year later. The thing is that I'm playing my Pro NOW!! 2016. If a product that is coming out at the end of 2017 is not better than a product released a year earlier then we can have a conversation.

Also since when is a console defined by its launch games? Most of these developers rushed out a patch to make it for the launch. Games will get better as they always do. If you say otherwise, then you are a true fanboy and can't be reasoned with. History proves otherwise. I don't need some random person on a comment section to tell me what a system is capable of. Anyways, most of these people who are complaining have no 4k TV and no HDR screaming that they can't see the difference. Well, no sh!t?!?!?!

Watch people's narrative change once the Scorpio drops. Then everyone is going to be able to tell the difference because of the beastly Scorpio that coming out. Yes, its going to be "beastly" as some people say. 4.2 tflops weak. 6 tflops beastly. Its going to blow Pro out of the water. o_0

I really don't see how someone or people can brag about a product being better than another when its coming out a year later but whatever floats your boat. Most people don't even have a 4k and are still talking crap. Makes so much sense. Doesn't it???

Letthewookiewin3490d ago

Seriously. I'm really happy with my pro. Uncharted 4 and Battlefield look friggin amazing in 4K w/ hdr. I can't believe how people are loosing their minds over hating this thing. It's not even something you have to have. Just like the Scorpio isn't going to be something you have to have. If you have an original PS4 and Xbox One your still good. Jeesh.

starchild3489d ago

Well, we've seen it before. Sony fans constantly bragged about the PS3's superior specs for a whole year between when the Xbox 360 came out and when the PS3 came out. It's not like this is anything new.

UltraNova3489d ago (Edited 3489d ago )

Starchild...

At least our ps3's still worked after the first year so it wasnt only the power difference but reliability as well, not to mention ps3 outsold the 360 since day one worldwide at a constantly higher price.

*dont come back crying now, you went there.

OT:

Forbes is a joke there is no denying this. But as a day 1 Pro owner I have to say support is lackluster with notable exceptions being BF1 and R&C. Did i expect more? Tbh no i didnt because I knew (hoped) Sony would not be stupid enough to alienate their ps4 users by diferentiating the pro from the og ps4 in a major way.

That said the pro is the most powerful console ever today and its up to the devs to take advantage of it and most importantly for Sony to show them the way.

TKCMuzzer3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

So what Forbes is really saying is they want a new generation 4 years in. The power gap between the Xbox One and Scorpio is going to be borderline too big, so much that it will be hard to convince gamers they are part of the same eco system. I fear that Xbox One owners could be left out in the cold after 12 months as Microsoft push the Scorpio to have games that's show its power to try attract more gamers.

Errorist763489d ago

That's exactly what is going to happen....Microsoft will drop support for the unloved X1 rather sooner than later, no matter what they state now.

starchild3489d ago

I don't see how that would be the case. It will play the same games as the Xbox One, PS4 and PS4 Pro, only at a higher resolution. More games at native 4k, or at least upscaled from higher native resolutions than on PS4 Pro.

GUTZnPAPERCUTZ3490d ago

We need to understand that Sony was trying to do something totally different than MS. Sony has a good foot in the door for anyone who wants to game at a guaranteed 1080p with good visuals and a solid framerate AND for people who want to play already existing titles at 4k 30fps. It's awesome they have options for the consumer so they can decide what level of performance the player can enjoy their game at.

MS is trying to deliver native 4k gaming with a beefier all around system, I don't like how the Sony side is saying it won't be a huge difference, mostly the ones who don't game on PC. As a PC gamer as well as a console gamer 12gb of 320+gb/sec GDDR5 is awesome news for 4k and Graphical features, the PS4 pro did not upgrade the RAM and the only reason the RAM bandwidth is slightly faster than PS4 is because the CPU got a Overclock to 2.2ghz and the GPU was doubled, but 8gb GDDR5 @ 208gb/sec is still not enough for 4k textures. Here is hopes that Project Scorpio does indeed have a more powerful than Jaguar or ZEN equivalent CPU with a clock speed fast enough to take aid with the beefy GPU and RAM for a true 4k (or 1080p with amazing graphics) @60fps experience!

See the diference between a news about the pro and the Scorpio. Really sad Forbes....

I can say one huge diference the Pro will be a console for the mass market and the scorpio is a high end console that will come in the end of 2017.

Forget you got a PRO?, ok. Can you give it to me.

I think the Scorpio will be amazing because its 4k native, 4k native, 4k native and 4k native. There nothing more to say. Who care about games, its 4k native.

I will be able to say my game runs at 2100 and yours at 1800p... Thats the most important. Games, naaaaaa, 4k native and not fake 4k. I win. lol.

DMZ_P3490d ago

don't forget UHD blu ray man.... you gotta have that otherwise your console is a piece of crap...

corroios3490d ago

Im sorry, you´re righ it got UHD. Sony is doomed.

Neonridr3490d ago

nothing wrong with having a UHD player in it. Don't go pretending like that isn't a welcome addition to any console. You may sit there and say it's a games machine first, but Sony adding a small price to the cost of the unit saves the end user from spending like $300 on the open market purchasing a separate player instead.

kevnb3490d ago

@ Neo It's a good feature, but don't go bragging like it's a game changer. it's just playing movies in 4K that no one does. People barley buy blu-ray CD's

Pennywise1383489d ago

As a former movie collector from VHS to Blu-ray I truly feel that physical media has come to an end and don't blame sony at all for not including a UHD drive. I quit chasing the ghost and realized the convienance of clutter free streaming not to mention that this age of so many on demand options and digital rentals, its not only more convienant and usually cheaper. Every time I walk into a department store the movie section has shrunk. In a year from now a UHD drive will be a waste of time and money.

GamingIVfun3489d ago (Edited 3488d ago )

Just went to my local Best Buy to pick up My Playstation Pro. They had rearranged the store, in doing so the Blu-Ray, DVD and Ultra 4k movie section shrunk considerably with Ultra 4k movies having a very small section, maybe thirty tittles and mostly older movies. Also the music CD section went from one row halfway down the store on both sides to one side of a small section of a row. Why would they do that, because sales of physical media are shrinking every year and at a very fast rate. Gaming media is the only physical media that seems to be holding it's own and that's gotten smaller to.

Ultra blu-ray and the players for them are not ready for this holiday season, not enough players and not enough movies to make a big push. Still a lot compatibility problems with the movies even on the Xbox One S. just not a matured tech yet and the market for it is not there either, not this holiday and I don't see it being anywhere near as big as Blu-ray was.

Nodoze3489d ago

I am with you Pennywise. Hollywood screwed themselves here. By continually re-releasing/re-hashing the same content over and over. I am a physical disc collector for Bluray/Bluray 3d, but will NOT be moving to UHD. No desire whatsoever to make the switch. I will not be buying the same titles yet again. I also want to send a special FU to the fine folks at Disney who are playing games with their customers by not releasing 3D titles in the US initially, then re-releasing titles in 3D after the fact (The Force Awakens, Jungle Book etc). All in the hopes that people will buy the same content TWICE. In their efforts to further extract every last nickel from their customers they have in turn alienated them. Region codes are an antique of the past and serve no purpose other than to wall off and PISS off your customers. If you can release 3D content in one region (the U.K for example) then why not allow for US owners to import it if you are not going to release it here??? Instead they region lock it. The executive that decides this stuff needs to be taken to the wood shed.

All this said, the one element that physical media DOES offer over the streaming though is the lossless audio. It is night and day by comparison. While some of the content that is streamed is in 5.1, I have yet to see anything in DTS 7.1. There is a difference for those that appreciate those sorts of things (like we do).

UHD will not succeed. Even the avid collectors are wary of being treated like trash. Sony is dead on here... it is doomed to fail.

Bigpappy3489d ago

The pro is a nice machine for sure. But it is not smart to downplay the Scorpio and what it might do more power, RAM and transfer speed.
The Pro is a beastly PS4 though, and right now it is the most powerful console money can buy.
I would not be surprised if Scorpio is released early October though. That's when M$ normally releases new hardware.

SirBradders3489d ago

And their same exclusive line up for past decade, I'm sure the Scorpio will release with halo.

I don't know how many times this needs to be said. The Pro isn't meant as a successor or a huge leap forward from the PS4, but as a better version of the PS4. That's a good thing, we don't need a new generation in less than 3 years, especially not with the PS4 doing so well. This complaint makes no sense to me.

UCForce3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

Well, Sony said PS4 Pro is mid gen. It doesn't need full power. But it's a great console.

Edit : About PS4 Pro power, what I mean is that it does need to push ability to off limit, but it need to let dev to learn its steady.

Edit#2 : About disagree, what I mean is that Pro is not next gen console. It's just a PS4 with better performance. More importantly, Sony confirmed PS4 Pro sit along side with OG PS4, so it not going to be fully Pro exclusive.

pyroxxx3490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

Exactly that,..
PS5 will be a monster around 2019-20,.. I am more than happy with my PRO,.. IQ in games is basically perfect with the PRO (that is just from basic downscaling from the higher native reso) Boost in performance is also greatly appreciated.
Don't pay attention to disagrees,.. just asshurt xbox fanboys basically knowing, that their Scorpio is basically their 9th gen system (which will be a joke when PS5 comes out even power wise,.. and PS4/pro will have 3:1 lead WW even before they release it),.. and that MS left xbox one even sooner then original xbox,..

cleft53490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

Whats so great about the PS4 Pro is that you don't feel like you need one to experience great PS4 games. If the PS4 Pro had been this insanely powerful upgrade, then it would basically be a new console and all of those people that currently have or just brought a new PS4 would have been screwed out of their money. I think the people feeling like, oh this isn't a super powerful upgrade so I feel disappointed, are missing the point. PS4 Pro shouldn't be such an insane upgrade that it makes the current PS4s look like outdated tech. If Sony had done that, then no matter what they said they would have split their market.

I know people that are saying things like, I am fine with my current PS4 so I will wait. I cancelled my pre-order for the PS4 Pro because I decided to wait. If the Pro was so much more powerful than the current PS4 than people would and should feel like Sony cheated them. This .5 move has to be done very carefully and Sony did it well. More power and better resolutions/frame rates for those that want it now, without alienating the current user base. That's a job well done.

Errorist763489d ago (Edited 3489d ago )

@cleft5

And there my friend you stated a very important fact. The power gap between X1 and Scorpio will be so huge X1 users are going to get a clearly inferior experience...which is actually the reason they mostly stopped showing X1 footage of newer games lately at E3 etc...and you know just like we all do that Microsoft will probably stop supporting it a year or two down the line, especially with PS5 around the corner.

Nyxus3490d ago

I expect it to be something like that, yeah.

ABizzel13490d ago (Edited 3490d ago )

2019 - 2020.

We'll hear rumors 2018 of the PS5, more than likely we'll get confirmation that it exist sometime in 2019, and have a reveal early 2020 with a release that holiday.

We've been around here long enough to know this is how these things go.

It launch just depends on how well PS4 continues to do over the next few years, and if MS treat Scorpio as a successor to the XBO, which completely depends on if the use a new Zen CPU.

MS can still market as a "XBO", but that new CPU instantly means the Scorpio will be able to do significantly more with games than the current XBO / PS4 / PS4 Pro can do when it comes to processing and framerates. The good news for MS is that they already have their 360 emulation up and running on current XBO, so they can get it up on Scorpio as well, and they have an entire year to get developers on board to make Scorpio patches for 4k and since the hardware is still rumored to be AMD but 4x - 5x more powerful from the GPU side, and if Zen at least the same from the CPU, it shouldn't be to difficult.

Rob_Ko3490d ago

I guess PS5 rumors will start to spread around Scorpio release date (nothing official from Sony yet, but few sentences from someone important in Sony, how powerfull it's going to be.)

I bought the PS4 Pro and it's really no big deal still just a PS4 that upscales my games to 4K and if lucky some run in HDR

My X1s already did this (y) ;)

TKCMuzzer3490d ago

No your Xbox One S does not already do this. Upscaling a 720p image to 4K is not the same thing.

Aenea3485d ago

Yeah, actual upscaling a 720p-900p to 2160p is totally the same as games rendering in 1440p-2160p and upscaling when needed. Also checkerboard rendering is still not the exact same thing as upscaling. Many games use checkerboard rendering to achieve a resolution much higher than 1080p, sometimes they do still need upscaling after that. If it were the same it would be done in one fell swoop anyways. Also some games don't use checkerboard rendering and some actually run in native 4k.

All of this is not the exact thing the X1S does...

HectixRose40d ago

I think it was good decision, if he was still alive, he would have been a mascot just like Kratos, drake and many others. These old dudes gotta die for new characters to take center stage with their own storyline. They keep dragging the emotional baggage into many sequels and eventually the story just turns into absolute shit show.

JEECE40d ago

It was ironic because people complained heavily about the story in the Uncharted games not having sufficient stakes because all the key characters always survived, despite the dangerous situations they were always in. Then ND killed a character in a more serious series and everyone lost their minds. Just shows that people don't always really want the thing they say they want.

CantThinkOfAUsername39d ago

I thought the more common complaint about Uncharted franchise was how the main cast are the good guys acting so nonchalantly while killing hundreds in cold blood (aka the dissonance between gameplay and story cutscenes). They just did it again in Part II.

Soy40d ago

Didn't have to kill him. Just have them part ways or Joel can "retire," whatever.

DarXyde40d ago

I don't think he would necessarily need to become a mascot (and besides, technically, I'd say Ellie is... So regardless, someone was going to be).

From a narrative perspective, I do think it has a similar effect to Ricky dying in Boyz N Da Hood: very likeable character, and you're really motivated to see the get back—in this case, it's more intense because it's an interactive experience. Most people hated Abby, but I get what they were after with portraying the cycle of violence and revenge—unfortunately, the game appears to want to take the side of the bad people.

But I will say that if Joel survived, it does become harder to tell an interesting story. What COULD have happened is an exploration into the rift between Joel and Ellie after the trolley dilemma events of the first game. It could have been interesting to see Abby out for revenge at the same time Ellie hated Joel.

I understand but the way they went about killing Joel, was poorly executed. Even the show of the Last of Us games tried to improved it, but it was just as bad. Well at least Joel got to know the reason why he had to die, before the death happened in the show. That part gave us the full context, but the game just let it happen with no pay off.

Joel death should have been a midway thing through the story, so we at least get to play him a little more with Ellie. Abby didn’t need to be this Hulk looking woman, but more like the show Abby which is a beater idea in my opinion.

The only ND game that was so disappointing to me I couldn't finish it.

Honestly as much as I loved the game, they could have just not killed him off.
I get it creator vision and all but killing a character that made you millions is just wrong imo. At least have him go down fighting.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted
