I wouldn't have a problem with it, either, but you know how people get sometimes. If I am not mistaken, they've been able to change their PSN IDs in Japan since forever, and at no charge, so I think those that are aware of that will be the ones who will do *most* of the complaining. I also have no plans to change my PSN ID since I didn't go with something like "xXyolo420kronyxXx".

While we are at it, can we deactivate taken names that haven't been used in like 3 years. So many original names literally have no trophies at all.

Not a bad point. If a long standing account has zero trophies --a near impossible feat-- it's clearly dead or a dud. Free up the name.

I'm not sure about that. I have three accounts which i use to buy the games but i do not play on them. When my main account was created there was no PSN in my country. Now i alternate my purchases according to the dollar variation. It's cheaper for me to buy in my own country but i play in the US account.

They can work around that by only deactivating names that haven't been used in a long time and that own no content. They can start by sending out monthly warning emails, and if by the 3rd month there has still been no activity then they can recycle the account.

Even if the account does own content they can still recycle it. They just need to rename it to the account # and archive it. If someone tries to re-activate it later then they will have to choose a new name.

Agreed. People should be able to change the region of their account when they move. I currently live in Canada and have started gaming on PSN here, but I might move one day and dread I will have to handle different accounts.

You won't be able to 'trade your region'. The various laws from one region to another prevent this and isn't an issue on Sony's end but on the end of the countries who have their own laws and how digital content must be associated with the region in which they were purchased.

Yes. Unlike a physical purchase that can cross borders with you when you move, digital content is tied to a specific region and remains as such. You can continue to use that content in France when you move from Canada or vice versa, but you must buy content in France from the French PSN store and content from Canada in the Canadian store. You would not be allowed to use a single point of access for both, such as your e-mail address, without losing access to the content. Most people choose to just continue with their old accounts in their old region or mix the two. The reason you can't change 'regions' is because then it would also be changing the region of your digital content, which would break various laws depending on where you change it to. It's all about taxes and tariffs in the end, as is about most things we deal with in the world today. Kind of like how I can't stream content from Canada Netflix or UK, which has a lot of good movies I just can't access in the U.S.

Well hopefully its like Xbox and it would only be $10 but after having the same crappy name for 8 years, i would spend double that maybe even triple that if i found a good name to use.
