Every article about Scorpio makes the wait much more enjoyable & exciting .
Can't wait to obtain my unit at release .

Bigpappy3465d ago

Scorpio will be a monster. It will obviously play everything better.

Gazondaily3465d ago

Man this console just seems more and more beastly the more I hear about it. Can't wait to see its unveiling next year.

freshslicepizza3465d ago

thats what you call forward thinking, allow games to carry over.

vegasgamerdawg3465d ago

This is the first time I'm considering buying a console out of the gate. I usually wait a min. of a year for games to release. But, I've 170 games on my X1 now and they'll all carry over and hopefully some will get patched. I like where things are going. 4K TV first, Ps4 pro then the Scorpio next year.

Bac Compat is smooth on Xbox One. I believe the same will migrate to the beast Scorpio.

brich2333465d ago (Edited 3465d ago )

Did you read what they said? Thier is no bc like on original xbox one, its specifically designed to run both xbox one and xbox 360. This would mean no downloading games off xbox live for 360 games and just playing or installing from disc I suppose, or maybe they will force us to download the digital version.

“We’ve very specifically designed it [on Scorpio] so Xbox games just run,” he said, referring to both Xbox 360 and Xbox One titles.

“It’s nothing like Xbox 360 backwards compatibility right now — there’s a lot of technical wizardry involved in that. We didn’t want to have to do that again.”

_-EDMIX-_3465d ago

Really? Thats a good idea.

Sony probably would have to do a lot to have cell inside PS4, but they could at least try with PS2. Strange, but would be kinda cool for lolz sake.

Pancit_Canton3465d ago

They just wish they have a technical wizard developer like Naughy dog to develop for them. Lol

XXanderXX3465d ago (Edited 3465d ago )

They have Turn10 & Playground Games when it comes to racing .

_-EDMIX-_3465d ago

I mean...yes but, MOST publishers would want a team like Naughty Dog. Goes without saying.

jmetalhead778123465d ago

It's just completely irrelevant to the article. Just a pathetic troll.

_-EDMIX-_3465d ago

@jme- agreed though.

Not relevant to anything regarding this article. I don't like how folks don't get marked for trolling when its really ,really clear.

sammarshall1023465d ago

I'll stick with The Coalition

IamTylerDurden13464d ago

The Coalition says hi? Are you saying The Coalition is on par with Naughty Dog in terms of technical wizardry? C'mon, Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica are on another level.

81BX3464d ago

Im replying to his comment where he/she said ms wish they had a group of devs like that.... they infact do. Try gears 4 it show cases great dev work.

Max-Zorin3465d ago (Edited 3465d ago )

^This is why Naughty Dog fans get cussed out. I don't know which is more annoying, Naughty Dog fans, or people that romanticize Joker and Harley Quinn.

mozzie3465d ago

Lol nobody was talking about SONY, ND or UC so please go to another article. You sony boys just can't handle that the Xbox One's design is finally showing how much smarter it is with all the VM Stuff and exclusive OS baked into every game. All scorpio has to do is basically run a VM which is inside every released game on Xbox One. And we already know GoW4, FH3 and Tomb Raider will be in native 4K. Sony on the other hand want's Devs to patch their games, otherwise the Ps4 Pro will shut down half it's GPU. That's not technical wizardry, that's half assing.

_-EDMIX-_3465d ago

I agree with you but there's no reason to be purposely trolling on such articles but please do not generalize all Sony fans because of some rabid fanboy lol

As a PlayStation gamer I don't even use majority of the features on PlayStation 4... I simply want to play games and that's probably the extent of me using my PlayStation 4.

I'm sure the OS feature on the Xbox One is amazing but even if I owned and Xbox One I'm not entirely sure what something like that would do for me considering I spend the absolute majority of the time with my gaming platforms actually just gaming.

Both companies have their reasons for how they're implementing it and I believe both companies are Justified for their own purposes.

Microsoft wants it to be something that naturally upgrades games in regards to Performance similar to the PC..

Sony doesn't believe the adoption rate is there to pass that cost on to the consumer and feels it would be easier to have Developers patch features they wish to upgrade.

I understand the person that you're responding to is a crazy fan boy but please don't join him , this isn't really a right or wrong or smart or dumb, it's just that both companies have different viewpoints in different ways of implementing 4K..

On a technical sense it may be smart for Microsoft to create the Scorpio this way but it's also going to be costly on the consumer.

I understand that Sony wants to have the pro at a very user-friendly price but its design is also going to leave some games without that 4K support.

Both have positives and negatives in some respects.

IamTylerDurden13464d ago

Yea, bc Microsoft is just known for incredible hardware and decades of electronics excellence...The wizards at ms did popularize the power brick. To get mad at someone mentioning Sony in a MS article is foolish. Take a look at Sony articles, ppl like Moldy, Darth, and Neonridr are almost always first.

mozzie3464d ago

@IamTylerDurden1 they also got rid of the power brick again with the xbox one s. the way I see it MS are the only ones which said classic CPU/GPU is not what we need for hololens and developed their own holographic processor. even PSVR is thetered and needs cables wraped around your head in order to function. believe what you want but I'm going to buy MS stock.

Obscure_Observer3464d ago

@mozzie

The Scorpio will have patches too. The console will boost image quality in games with dynamic resolution and framerates in games with unlocked framerates. But it will not automatically enhance games with high quality textures, complex light, shadows and particles effects.

shiva13464d ago

Microsoft can do that even.... But sony would get pissed as playstation consoles would become irrelevant just like your post. On the other hand still waiting if sony can do any such sort of wizardy thing...

IamTylerDurden13464d ago

To be fair, when you hear the term "technical wizardry" Naughty Dog does come to mind.

gangsta_red3464d ago

Actually to be fair, it doesn't.

+ Show (4) more repliesLast reply 3464d ago
Razzer3465d ago

Well...yeah. They are not switching architectures this time. Scorpio is basically the same thing as upgrading CPU/GPU/Memory in a PC. So of course it will be BC with X1.

NapalmSanctuary3465d ago

Hes talking about 360 games on Scorpio.

JackBNimble3465d ago

Well one would think that 360 games that are bc to xbox1 would have bc to scorpio, just seems logical to me.

NapalmSanctuary3464d ago (Edited 3464d ago )

@JackNimble Read the article, its only 5 sentences. Hes referring to the fact that Xbone uses technical wizardry (emulation) to run a limited number of 360 games. Hes saying that the Scorpio runs all 360 games, an ability that is inherent to the design of the system, not something that has to be crowbarred in after the fact.

Ju3465d ago

Not quite. I'm pretty sure this thing won't have ESRam. Curious how they'll guarantee that all games will run. Just taking a blind shot or running QA verification on the whole XBO library.

mozzie3465d ago

Why do you think it won't have ESRAM? Scorpio has even a bigger bandwith than the xbox one. I'm pretty sure it will have ESRAM. Every game runs basically in it's own OS. All Scorpio has to do is probably have ESRAM and the ability to run a VM. Think about it, they upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10 with the NXOE with even launch games like RYSE ord DR3 still playing without any problems. So if Phil Says he doesn't want to go through 360 BC again, they will probably use ESRAM.
https://www.engadget.com/20...

Ju3464d ago

Would be very surprising if they will do it again - if they have a chance to create a clean cut next generation and redesign. With 300GB bandwidth (or whatever) in a GDDR configuration it shouldn't really matter, really.

But the point is, they will have the exact same thing what Sony has. A backwards compatibility mode and an enhanced mode with all bells and whistles. Some older games will probably scale better - but XBO 1080 games will not magically run 4K if the dev doesn't patch it in. Nor will those games scale automatically - unless they are written that way already today. Sony's strict HW compatibility is a bit, aeh, backwards. But they could rethink that strategy also...

I think there's nothing wrong with what MS is trying to do. I might as well get me my first XBox if this is priced well.

andrewsquall3464d ago

Err yes they are. Scorpio is literally using completely different GDDR5 next gen architecture over Xbone's 2004 ddr3 one.

Take-Two CEO Once Again Side Steps Grand Theft Auto 6 Price Point

Strauss Zelnick says price of GTA 6 is being carefully considered and that Rockstar is focused on "making the most spectacular piece of entertainment on Earth."

Kuma12d ago

If GTA 6 abandons everything that made GTA 5 great, it will crash and burn right out of the gate. GTA 5 was funny and not at all PC. My worry is that they will cave to the PC crowd and ruin the vibes.

Eonjay12d ago

They got freaking BBLs twerking on the top of trucks for the gram, the freaking Flordia joker, and dude running down the stree in their undies and you are worried about it being 'too PC'? The internet has runied gamers. It doesn't matter how non-PC they make the game, you will all listen to the grifters telling you not to believe your lying eyes lol.

gigoran812d ago

"Rockstar Games’ co-founder and former VP of Development Jamie King said he envisions GTA 6 as a game that’s “maybe not quite as edgy or quite as funny” as its satirical predecessors."

oh yeah, totally internet grifters spreading rumors...

blacktiger12d ago

That's part of the plan, they destroyed you but they need to destroy the shareholders? Only 1 shre holder is the true elite that don't care

1nsomniac12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

Meh.., if it’s above £55 I ain’t buying it.

Rockstar are genuinely not half the company they used to be. I was a die hard GTA fan I’ve purchased every game and expansion and spin off day 1.

My opinion of GTA6 is that I can take it or leave it. Not bothered. They burnt too many bridges.

DaReapa12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

So they're actually leaving the door open for an L.A. Noire sequel? Nice!

VaNdAl12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

He should just come out and say it already it's getting stupid it's going to be a 100 bucks $200 for the special edition🤡🤡; 29315;🤣♿

Storm2312d ago

I won't be getting this game until I can get it for $70. SHoot, I could wait for it to be even lower. I don't need the game that badly as my backlog is still huge and I am enjoying playing other things.

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

Eonjay13d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn214d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn213d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown14d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay13d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay13d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac13d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger14d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300014d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde14d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde13d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".
