Dishonored 2 Game Director Is "Distressed" about PC Performance Issues, Says It's Not a Port

Dishonored 2 Game Director Harvey Smith is so distressed about the PC performance issues that the development team is working on fixing them even during the weekend, but he confirmed the game is not a port.

He also gave some explanation on the low performance and the idTech origin of the Void engine.

I don't believe it, have never seen a game that was not a port with so many issues on PC.
I'm disappointed as a huge Dishonored fan

HotMess3472d ago

The PC Version should have been delayed.

lelo2play3472d ago

These big AAA games never purchase them on release. Always wait for sales, by then the game is probably fixed.

KaiPow3472d ago

Sometimes it's hard to account for every variable of PC configuration.

I've kinda had the view that most Bethesda games don't hit 100% out of the gate (GameBryo games especially) but they certainly get a lot better in the following weeks.

Alexious3472d ago

But this has nothing to do with "Bethesda" games, Bethesda is just publishing and Dishonored 1 ran amazingly well on Unreal Engine 3. They just went and used idTech 5 (mostly) for this one, that's the problem.

kevnb3472d ago

Sometimes the game worked better with older drivers or wasn't properly tested.

JamesBroski3472d ago

It is "harder" in a way, but shouldn't excuse shitty ports, especially when a huge company like Bethesda is publishing it. Look at Shadow Warriors 2, this game is amazingly well optimized and it wasn't made by a big studio like Arkane.

game4funz3472d ago

That's not the case with this. And although Bethesda games release with bugs and glitches they rarely release on pc with optimization issues.

Kurdishcurse3471d ago (Edited 3471d ago )

or maybe, bethesda should stop being failures at their job, and start being competent at it? maybe they should release a game thats not embarrassingly broken on launch for once? or maybe fans shouldnt be apologetic and finally stop giving them a pass for their technical garbage? just a thought. this was not made by bethesda, buts lets not pretend their mere presence seems to ruin game code.

I've seen plenty of exclusive game with issues on any platform, so it's plausible.

Genuine-User3472d ago

It's not a port. There are quite a few issues on the PS4 version as well. Audio is my biggest gripe with the game right now; it's completely broken.

Nivekki3471d ago

I've been playing it on ps4 since Friday night and I've had no issue with the audio, can't see how it's broken :/

Vegamyster3472d ago

Well that depends on how well the console version runs, seen a couple say the game crashes on consoles so it sounds like it might just be bad coding in general but until DF or someone else confirms this i dunno. Shame because other than the technical issues the game is great, should have stuck with UE3 that the original used or used 4 since this modified ID tech engine that they're using doesn't warrant the performance drops/issues it has considering how the game looks.

Erik73573472d ago (Edited 3472d ago )

Its a shame, we have a really passionate development team here that looks like they made a great game then you have this disaster. Must be devastating to the team to hear bad things about something they thought was amazing for years.

Trust me, look at candylands graphic comparison and there are some moments where pc really shines out and looks beautiful. Ps4 version looks amazing but there are some moments where you see the extra work they put towards on the pc version. Not a port at all.

In interiors and in the congested city parts you will see just overall more detail in the buildings, walls, etc. and improved lighting can be seen that aren't seen on the ps4 version. Amazing game it seems.

Millions of PC hardware/software configurations out there no way for them to test them all. PC gamers need to be more forgiving at launch QA has never been done on your exact PC

Hopefully they get it sorted soon

Activemessiah3472d ago

It's hard to not notice all of these bugs... there is a mentality to just send it out... it'll get fixed it later.

Psychotica3472d ago

I haven't had a single issue and I am running it on high settings @1440p. Really fun game too..

steven83r3472d ago

Ya i'm running maxed out on 1440p and not 1 issue to speak of. And that's at a solid 60-61fps.

CrimzonRazor3472d ago

good for you many others cant say the same

TheOttomatic913472d ago

It's a damn shame this is happening the PC Version of Dishonored 1 had zero problems I wonder what could be the problem? Rushed development possibly or maybe it wasn't a good idea to split the studio into two teams to work on two different games. Although I personally think its the id tech 5 engine I've had plenty of issues with games running that engine on my PC

Alexious3471d ago

Yeah, it's the engine even though they say it has been almost completely rewritten.

30fps sucks. Especially on an OLED.
