Great Titanfall 3 coming in 2025. Guess it's better than Valve who would never release a sequel.

Here in Spain the marketing of the sequel is terrible. I haven't seen ads for it anywhere. Meanwhile for the first game there were ads all over the place. You couldn't travel around without seeing a Titanfall ad. They even had tons of ads on Spanish gaming websites and on TV.

From the articles that I've read the first game sold more on XB1 then the second one did on all three platforms.

This just means that fans of the first Titanfall didn't support the sequel at all. Plus it means that EA chose a horrible time to release it. And it also means that they did a poor job of marketing the game to fans of the first one and to PS4 owners who never played the franchise before. Also the bad impressions of the beta only hurt the game even further.

word of mouth does not tend to have much weight in such a busy window, even more so for full price

I agree the tech test probably harmed sales. I was very disappointed by the changes. Having said that i changed my mind and still picked it up day 1. Pretty glad i did as they made further changes after the tech test to address some of the complaints. It plays much more like the original in multiplayer.

Holiday season has that pull though. You've got a whole new audience in stores looking to buy gifts, most of which ain't got a clue what a game is/about. Granny Scroggins walks in looking for Metal Gear Auto: A Thief's End for Billy Bobs PS One Box. That's some dammmmn juicy meat to companies. It's the same with pretty much all entertainment products. Toys, books, albums, films etc

We all know it's a much tougher window to succeed in, but the rewards outweigh the risks for the bigger hitters in the industry

But Battlefield is not like Titanfall , you're not only talking about two extremely different games you're also talking about game set in two completely different time periods.

In fact the only thing that Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 even have to do with each other as they both have guns...

I'm sorry but you can't keep pushing a release date back to Oblivion to avoid inevitable competition, at the end of the day they still need to release the damn game do you not understand that not releasing it is still technically costing them money?

Now suddenly all the consumers that like Titanfall 2 are upset that it released when it did? So are you guys seriously telling me it would have been better to not play Titanfall 2 at all right now? Lol

Put it this way if people on here bought Titanfall 2 and they like Titanfall 2 then the publisher did a good job releasing it , somebody wanted this game.

I don't think it wouldn't make sense for them to release their game in the summer delaying it a ridiculous number of months despite consumers having to believe that I was going to release in the fall because I actually don't think it benefits them, especially when you're considering the game would already be completely finished.

They can't just delay their game next fall anyway as if there's not going to be another Call of Duty and possibly another surprise first person shooter...

The goal in this industry is actually to make money pushing back a release date two different times is simply done to avoid losing a specific amount of money but they ultimately actually still need to release a product to make money in the first place.

I'm sorry but if a game set in World War 1 stopped you from purchasing Titanfall 2 you did not want it bad enough to begin with. I just don't believe that everybody who was going to purchase Battlefield 1 was also all going to purchase Titanfall to the next month or maybe the next following month or anything like that.

Mind you, where on Earth did you guys read that Titanfall 2 was only releasing for a limited time in one month and then afterwards never available to be purchased? Because reading some of the comments on here it's seriously sounds like the game was only made available for one day and then blown up in some underground bunker lol

I'm pretty positive Titanfall 2 is still available after its initial release date and anybody that wants to purchase it can still purchase it...

Hype doesn't sell games, being good actually sells games.

Given the publisher is the one who sorts the marketing for the games (most of the time) it has plenty to do with EA. They don't just sit in their offices and watch the games roll out

I'm not sure what you're talking about because Titanfall 2 was never going to do Call of Duty or Battlefield numbers simply because those are established intellectual properties.

The first one also did not move Call of Duty numbers either so I seriously don't really understand what you're talking about. Electronic Arts I would assume would have a lot to do with it considering they are the publisher and would be in charge of the marketing in the first place.

But how you view marketing is subjective at the end of the day Electronic Arts is going to budget how they Market their titles based on historically how they actually perform I don't see any reason to actually Market something like Titanfall 2 with the same numbers they might Battlefield considering the game has zero history of even producing such numbers to ever justify such a ridiculous marketing budget.

It's almost like the people who have this stupid believe that Red Dead Redemption 2 is going to get Grand Theft Auto 5 sales and don't seriously understand that Grand Theft Auto V is an enigma it is a cultural phenomenon Rockstar could pump as much money as they want to in to the marketing but it's not going to be as known as something like Grand Theft Auto and it's not going to produce the same number of sales that it would never even justify putting the same money in marketing into a title that's likely never going to hit those type of sales.

Regardless of Hawaii favor as companies I still stand firmly with my belief that companies are overall making their decisions based on their bottom line and Electronic Arts is marketing Titanfall 2 no different than Sony would probably Market Titanfall 2 if they were put in the same situation I'm sorry but if the game did not produce a specific number of sales they're correct to adjust their marketing budget.

Never forget about the stupid companies that were dumping ridiculous marketing and overblown budgets into their games with this assumption that they would be the next Call of Duty or did you forget that Capcom was open to being bought out last generation? Google 2014 Capcom buyout...

There's a good reason why companies like Sega still exist it's because they don't go out there throwing ridiculous amounts of money on franchises that don't justify the spending.

Meanwhile Publishers like Capcom are desperately begging from publisher to publish her to have them fund some of their projects because of their bad decisions a Last Generation.

I'm sorry but you can't buy sales please get out of here with this stupid ridiculous notion that any publisher is going to be dumping an absolutely atrocious amount of money at a game simply to be good guys or nice with some dumb narrative , like there's this good or bad.

the reality is Electronic Arts just like Sony just like Microsoft still have a bottom lines they're not going to spend money on marketing for titles that do not justify it.

That might have made sense for Microsoft when Titanfall was still a new intellectual property that could have been something huge...

But after the first games release Electronic Arts clearly has tempered expectations and is not going to spend the same amount knowing that the series may not be able to produce such numbers against juggernauts like Battlefield and Call of Duty.

There definitely is a point of no return or a diminishing returns if you will. You seriously could only spend so much to Market a game at the end of the day consumers will buy something based on it actually being good.

the same Sony you're talking about also let go the team that created Driveclub that they actually owned , they actually also sold Sony Online Entertainment for underperforming and being just too costly without actually producing significant titles or clearly a significant return, so I'm not sure where you get this strange narrative that Sony is some good guy and another publisher is some bad guy when both the actual companies are doing the same things for the same reasons.

Respawn is a partner studio, not a subsidiary of EA. Also, Respawn owns the IP.
