With the Nintendo Switch being the ideal console/mobile hybrid, does that mean the 3DS will become obsolete?

Does the new product put the old product at risk?

kneon3504d ago

But the Switch lacks the portability of the 3DS, it's seems to be quite a bit bigger, big enough that a lot of people won't want to bother carrying it around.

Yes. I hope this ends Nintendo's handheld line. I'm tired of making my eyes nearsighted to play their stupid games. Plus 3DS is old.

Neonridr3505d ago

well the 3DS will be 6 years old at that point. Sorta getting time to moving on no?

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3504d ago

No. Maybe for those who don't own yet. But if you don't own it yet why bother? Unless you came from Pokemon GO! and getting on board with Pokemon Sun & Moon!

Nu3504d ago

Hopefully NS replaces the DS because DS had a great Rpg library and I want to experience that on a tv with better resolution

CarlosX3603504d ago

That's the point. Nintendo Switch is a hybrid, so eveything console, and handheld will be condense into one. I'm sure there'll be "handheld" versions, that will act as arcade titles to break up the pace of Switch. Kind of like Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Arcade.

Testfire3504d ago

I agree, my eyes aren't that great and even the 3DS XL is too small for me. Give me the power to output the awesome DS games to a monitor and I'm sold.

superchiller3504d ago

The 3DS is dying out, with very poor old technology and terrible specs. Of course the NX will replace it.

CarlosX3603504d ago

That doesn't mean it'll be discontinued as soon as Switch releases, it just means there'll be less developer support next year. It'll be a third pillar, like GBA was when DS/3DS was released.

deafdani3503d ago

The DS was supposed to be the "third pillar, not the GBA. Lol. And the GBA was killed pretty fast once the DS soared in sales, and I expect the same to happen to the 3DS if Switch is successful.

SegaGamer3503d ago

The 3DS has been around long enough now. The Nintendo Switch is the WiiU and 3DS successor.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing27d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9227d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit27d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing27d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9227d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
