Really wanted to see a Sleeping dogs 2. Square enix screwed up on this potential gta franchise.

_-EDMIX-_3502d ago

We might still see a sequel. I'm pretty positive United fronts does not own the intellectual property

freshslicepizza3502d ago

sqaure had unrealstic sales goals for this game.

Speeping Dogs (aka. True Crime) was a great game!
ModNation Racers is one of my most played racing game ever..

Some other devs make garbage games and are lasting for decades... i don't understand

Sleeping Dogs was an OK game, which did a lot of stuff right when it came to gameplay (driving felt good, fighting felt good, shooting was barely used but felt nice as well)

I did feel the main character and story were a bit 'bland'. Like Mafia 2, it seemed to end before there was any kind of epic conclusion or something. These game are usually about rising to the top, yet this somehow kinda stopped halfway through that rise.

I also didn't like their depiction of the city. I absolutely love Hong Kong, I know it pretty well, and TBH, I barely recognised it in this game, which is a shame. For starters, they decided to just go with Hong Kong Island, which is a pretty small part of Hong Kong, and IMHO, also the least interesting part. They left out Kowloon (the actual Chinese heart of HK), the huge New Territories, Lantau Island (with the airport and Big Budha and LOTS of nature), and numerous islands. They depicted just a small fraction of HK, and not very accurately (The Peak didn't look anything like the actual place, and same goes for Causeway Bay etc etc)

To be honest, I know they were on location there to make it as accurate as possible, but IMHO, they failed miserably.

I could have lived with the first complaint (bland story and character), but the 2nd complaint was much more important to me. I really feel they dropped the ball there. And I hope some day a developer will actually do that city justice.

Dammit. I hate it when a studio goes under, and they had immense talent.

lxtrxi3502d ago

True. It's one thing when a studio goes under but when it's one that is actually really talented it just hurts that much more.

Chaos_Raiden3502d ago

This is unfortunate, and I like Sleeping Dogs a lot despite some issues. I hope a good company will hire them if their studio is really being shut down.

TheColbertinator3502d ago

I hope not. Just bummed their last project was some crappy online game that nobody wanted.

lxtrxi3502d ago

Not sure if this is true but the rumor was that Square Enix wouldn't fund a Sleeping Dogs 2 because of the original games sales figures.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing21d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9221d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit21d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing21d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9221d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
