Like it or not, Activision made the right call bundling MW Remastered

"Whether or not a business decision results in customer satisfaction means little to Activision when they know many gamers won’t be able to resist the urge to play Modern Warfare Remastered, regardless of their distaste for the Infinite Warfare bundle fiasco."

Players may not like it much, but Activision made the right business decision to package Modern Warfare Remastered alongside Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, argues Gamespresso's Stephen.

It's not just the fact that you need to pay for special editions to get this remaster, but you are required to have the disc or the digital game installed just to play this remaster. I don't care how popular a franchise is, locking away a remaster this was behind such a paywall is absurd.

As for what the rest of the article talks about, I believe that people just like hating on whatever is popular at the time. Before Call of Duty took over in 2007, you saw just as much hate being directed at the Halo franchise. After Modern Warfare released all that hatred was gradually transferred from one FPS franchise to another. However both franchises will continue to rightfully have their loyal supporters.

I don't think it's absurd. MW Remastered is DLC. Highly sought after DLC, but still DLC. No one would ever complain about a company wanting you to have the disc in the machine in order to play any other piece of DLC. The only reason this is different is because people want it so badly and are angry that it is part of another game instead of a standalone release.

pompombrum3378d ago

Comparing MW remaster to DLC add ons.. what are you smoking and where can I get some?

Allsystemgamer3378d ago

No people are angry because they're being forced to buy a game they don't want to play a game they do.

stimm163378d ago

No one is being 'forced' to do anything. If you don't want IW, then don't buy it. Period. If enough people don't want it, then Activision will release MW as a standalone, and you can buy it then.

freshslicepizza3378d ago (Edited 3378d ago )

@stimm16,

the reason its different is because most remastered games are able to be bought on their own. this isn't like dlc, this is an older game redone and being locked behind a game many may not want. people dont buy dlc for a game they may not want to buy, so dont be ridiculous and excuse activision for being all about money and less about consumer demands.

stimm163378d ago

But the point is activision is all about the money. And the whole argument of the piece is that consumer demands aren't reflected in how they spend money. Until demands and spending habits manage to line-up, yeah... activision is going to continue to do stuff like this.

I wouldn't rule out a standalone release down the road, especially once they see they can make some money from doing so. They'd be foolish to announce that now though, they don't want to cannibalize their own product.

That said, it's not a horrible deal to bundle it either.. I generally buy the limited edition of CoD games that include the season pass each year for $100, since many of my friends seem to play CoD exclusively. Buying the digital deluxe edition is $100 and comes with the season pass and MW remaster, and since it's digital I won't need to have the disc in.. just a bunch of free hard drive space. Right now my biggest concern is how many people will actually be in the multiplayer lobbies for MW remaster..

BLUEBLASTER3378d ago

I have to disagree. Treyarch are the only developers that make good COD games. Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer are shit.

WushuKnight193378d ago

And like it or not. It's still gate keeping content away from the consumers. If it did the Bayonetta 2 approach, it would've had less backlash. The fact that people have to not only get the limited edition to play the MWR, have to waste 130gb in total just to play MWR, but that you have to keep the IW disc just play MWR. From the impression I got so far from the IW beta, it doesn't seem worth it and some people are already not thinking about purchasing it. Had MWR sold separately, it would sold millions. Having IW flop would IMO be a good thing as it gives the message to Activision that we don't want futuristic COD anymore, especially one that people are now calling the latest entry Advance Warfare 2.0.

peewee110163378d ago

MWR IS 130GIGS that's alone. Now you have to have infnite warfare downloaded also that's over 250gigs. Stupid way to do this

aksmashh3378d ago

Was going to buy IW

But after playing the beta its actually a pretty poor game. Its a mix between bo3 and AW

Why pay £70 for a poor a game and game almost 10 years old.

They should of remastered MW series i would bought in a heartbeat

bondsmx3378d ago

Like I said in another comment,
I went into the IW beta full of hope.. and 5/10 matches later I have cancelled my preorders... I will have no regrets passing on this game.
And if Acti releases cod4 solo in 6 months, I'll pick that up. Hopefully the rumors of next years game being set in Vietnam are true, because i for one, am completely sick of triple jumping, wall running and boost sliding.

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty10h ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan13h ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher10h ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty10h ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies124h ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH10h ago(Edited 9h ago)

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

Kotick Made $155 million from MS in the buyout, the little b*tch needs to stop whining. Thanks to this Microslop deal and massive industry consolidation thousands upon thousands of devs and other workers lost their livelihoods. This greedy piggie pervert needs shut up and f-off.
