ReCore - Review | Sirus Gaming

ReCore is a game that has the fundamentals of an action platformer nailed, but just to add more “purpose” is walled off at every turn by a progress gate.

This game actually got a lower metacritic score than No Man's Sky. I remember when it was hailed as a next best thing after sliced toast.

Sirus_Gaming3513d ago

Yea. But it didn't meet our expectations, unfortunately. :(

S2Killinit3513d ago (Edited 3513d ago )

Well, its always hit or miss with any game. So I wouldn't worry about it. Sea of Thieves looks great, on the bright side. Hopefully that will deliver the goods.

mikeslemonade3513d ago

I hope they keep making games. These are the devs we need to support. Don't support mobile.

KiwiViper853513d ago (Edited 3513d ago )

It was never hailed as the next best thing...

I remember when the tomorrow children was the next Minecraft... How'd that turn out?

S2Killinit3513d ago

No Dragon Quest Builders is even better than mincraft. Thats the thing with Playstations, they got tons of games.

MasterCornholio3513d ago (Edited 3513d ago )

I thought Dragon quest builders was the next Minecraft. From the reviews that I've read the game is excellent.

andrewsquall3513d ago

Yeah, you brought up the wrong "next Minecraft" game at the wrong time. Funny how you conveniently left out the actual next Minecraft game that is currently just out now on PlayStation. And just like Until Dawn last year, it was never actually "hailed as the next best thing" but they both came out of nowhere with fairly great review scores.

There was plenty of hype for Recore, lets not kid ourselves. It was a disappointment, see my comment above about its comparison to The Order 1886.
5 Reasons to get EXCITED for RECORE https://www.youtube.com/wat...
5 Reasons Why ReCore Needs To Be On Your Radar http://thisgengaming.com/20...

andrewsquall3513d ago

It was actually the CG 2015 trailer that overhyped people beyond belief. They just wouldn't listen that it clearly was a CG trailer. Then the ingame was shown and it was "all about the gameplay" then, as long as the gameplay is fine the game will be great. Whoops, it failed there too with an unstable fps and only 900p resolution on Xbone too to boot.

But I'll say it again, its sitting on Metacritic with the EXACT same score as The Order 1886 yet it got off lightly when you compare the absolute hate The Order received from reviewers and Xboners alike but at least it was/still is somewhat a stunning next gen looking game.

Gazondaily3513d ago

Bullshit. The Order was hyped to high heaven. It turned out to be utter shite and then people still defended it en masse, rather pathletically citing conspiracies and bias for the low scores.

There is no mass outcry here. And recore didn't charge full price for the experience either.

So pretend all you want that this was massively hyped. That's a lie. And there was no mass damage limitation when the reviews were out. Most just resigned to the 'fact' that the game wasn't all that.

ninsigma3513d ago

Only thing I can agree on with septic here is the price it should have been cheaper than standard price. Everything else he said was bull. The order was a good game that had people constantly trying to bring it down. I mean just ask anyone who had a reasonable expectation for the game before it released, most of them really enjoyed it. "Utter shite" is way over kill for the order even if you didn't enjoy it.

Gazondaily3513d ago

@ninsigma

"The order was a good game that had people constantly trying to bring it down."

Enough of the victim act. That's your opinion. I think it was a shit game dressed up with great presentation. Utter shite is not overkill at all.

The game had several failings so when anyone starts shedding tears that the game was subject to some sort of hate campaign, I don't take that seriously. Imo, a thoroughly poor game and one deserving of its flack.

ninsigma3513d ago

"Enough of the victim act"
It's not a victim act. It happened whether you wanna admit it other not. It's not the only game that's happened to this gen by any means (quantum break was another) but it happened.

"That's your opinion". Same goes to you. You act as if it's fact that it's "utter shite". At the very least I've often times said I know it's not for everyone and can see why people wouldn't like it.

It did have a few things wrong I agree but it no more deserved the crap it got than QB did. No one is shedding tears. The fact you think people are crying over this is laughable. Really shows how much you wanna keep pounding on the game.

Darkfist_Flames3512d ago (Edited 3512d ago )

lol i remember when the fanboys call this game AAA and even thought it was open world, until the gameplay reveal xD.

" I remember when it was hailed as a next best thing after sliced toast."

Nonsense. It was never hyped. Make up more BS please...

S2Killinit3513d ago

You sound upset bro. Chill out. Recore WAS hailed as a AAA with people saying it was gonna be awesome and what not. It didnt turn out that way. Was my comment really so bad that it deserved your response?

gangsta_red3512d ago

" I remember when it was hailed as a next best thing after sliced toast."

You're exaggerating. People may have been excited for the game but no one hailed it as the next best thing.

I personally think there's better on gamepass then what was listed. State of decay imo is better then anything listed. Recore seemed alright for what I played on there also.

Is Recore any better to play now?

Concertoine1239d ago

Yeah, especially on One X or Series X. It kinda feels like a PS2 platformer, but in a good way. I liked it.

KillBill1240d ago

Odd that he specified 'Game Pass Ultimate' instead of just 'Game Pass' just so he could include a relatively weak choice comparably in 'Alice: Madness Returns' which is available with EA Play. SoD was a far better overlooked game to have listed.

Crows901240d ago (Edited 1240d ago )

Dont know why they keep listing ultimate. Gamepass is the better value....but the reason I think is that ultimate includes online gwg.

MadLad1239d ago

I mean, as someone who games both on PC and Xbox, Ultimate makes a whole lot of sense. There's console exclusives and PC exclusives. And, at the end of the day, EA Play is still a perk of having Ultimate. When I open Gamepass, the EA Play catalogue is sitting right there for me. It's as much part of Gamepass as any other title I'm looking at, right?

5 Games That Could Have Benefited From a Day One Game Pass Release

Omar Banat: Xbox Game Pass is one of the most ingenious services that Microsoft has come up with, but for these five games, it didn't come soon enough.

Game Pass certainly could have helped Sunset Overdrive which was underrated, imo.

"But the focus of the day is Remedy’s 2016 critically acclaimed Xbox exclusive, Quantum Break, and how Game Pass could have given it a much-needed bump."

Quantum Break received overall good reviews. Not great, but good. Critically acclaimed? Sorry, no. That's hyperbole.

"And fast-forwarding a few years, we saw what a boon Game Pass was for Gears 5. Not only did Game Pass help get the game into the hands of more Xbox and PC players, but it also helped it exceed Gears of War 4 in sales."

Gears 5 was launched on Steam day one. Gears of War 4 still isn't on Steam. I think that's important to point out if you are going to allude to reasons why one game outsold another.

darthv721900d ago

SSOD was free on GwG not too long after release. That is always fun for quick pickup and play. QB is one that I hope gets FPS boost support. It would just feel more natural being more fluid but it too is a good game. I assume it being on GP has somewhat helped it get some recognition.

CrimsonWing691900d ago

There’s no denying how good Gamepass is but I’m still foggy on how it benefits developers/publishers. Like, do they just get one lump sum of cash to put the title on Gamepass? I mean, I personally canceled my pre-order for Outriders when I saw it’s going to be on Gamepass day 1. Judging by that I’m not sure Gamepass helps with the sales of games, rather it does expose games to more players, but how much of that equates to sales down-the-road?

RavenWolfx1900d ago

I heard payment was based on number of downloads and time played in addition to a lump sum, but I am not sure on the accuracy.

demonseye1900d ago

I actually agree on this. because a lot of games will get played that people they normally wouldn't pay for. and its 10 dollars per month which is 120 dollars per year. The average game cost day one is around 70 dollars. i buy a lot more games than 2 on a yearly basis.
and well the gamepass for me just made my option ps5 pc combo. as long as they release every game on pc I don't even have a reason to buy an Xbox. so i wonder if this plan is financially smart in the long term. mind you Xbox already received money for every Xbox game sold regardless if it's Microsoft owned or not.

Revisiting Recore: Xbox One’s Lost Gem

Article on the story of Recore which includes new information on cut characters and covers its rumoured development hell. "Recore’s always been a title that’s fascinated me, as it's clearly a game that never fulfilled its potential for whatever reason.  It's filled to the brim with bugs and glitches and yet, despite that, still managed to charm many who played it. It’s the first game that I wanted"
