PlayStation VR Hates Sunlight

Chris Stead
"We’ve been putting Sony’s latest piece of glittering tech through its paces and it turns out to be a bit of a night owl.
As I mentioned in our Playstation VR review, one of the first issues I came across when testing the unit was one I hadn’t experienced in all my demonstrations prior to release. That’s because all those demonstration occurred in optimal environments for virtual reality technology – dark rooms, either behind closed doors at expos like E3, or in the offices of developers and publishers. When a creator is revealing their product to a journalist, of course they’re going to do it in an environment that best shows it off. Natural light is not that environment."

Man I must be getting old. The only time I get to play anything is late at night

ArchangelMike3511d ago

Same here, by the time I get back from work, and then by the time we've had dinner, and then by the time the Mrs has gone to bed... by that time it's bed time for me. So I get to play for an hour or so if I can still keep my eyes open! lol.

amiga-man3511d ago

luckily I have another advanced technology called curtains.

jwillj2k43511d ago

@amiga-man

its called having a fulltime job / career. we dont have a chance to play during the day.

amiga-man3511d ago

jwillj2k4 : its called having a fulltime job / career. we dont have a chance to play during the day.

I didnt say you did.

subtenko3511d ago

@jwill some people have different schedules, do different things, have different setups. The world doesnt revolve around your set of conditions. Just saying so people dont generalize

Bennibop3511d ago

Same here, good thing now the Mrs is pregnant she goes to bed even earlier.

Thatgrammar3511d ago

@jwillj2k4
Too bad you have no days off. That sounds like a very shitty job or a very demanding job. Maybe a bit of both, but if you want to have day breaks then either find a job that allows for days off or, if you chose to work every day because you like it, don't use your job as an excuse.

Most old people are asleep late at night.

DarXyde3511d ago

Same. But this isn't really anything I didn't expect. I always imagined it used some type of similar technology to the Wii remote (which also hates sunlight) given the motion tracking and having external devices run the information back to the console.

I still need a new apartment if I'm going to get PSVR though. There's simply not an ideal amount of room.

VR designed for Mom's basement. Finally

Better close those Windows :D

subtenko3511d ago

A lot of people have ever since Windows 10 came out

WeAreLegion3511d ago

All VR headsets hate sunlight.

Red_Renegade3511d ago

it's like people are looking for anything to say.

Atomicjuicer3511d ago

Gear VR doesn't.

Source: I own one.

WeAreLegion3510d ago

Forgot about that. I have one, too. I guess Cardboard is safe, too. But the good headsets hate sunlight because it will destroy the lenses.

Immorals3511d ago

As a ginger, I can empathise with PSVR on this point :p.

Are a bunch of games, some of which are nearly 10 years old not one being from 2026. Barely one from 2025.

I do like the irony of the closing paragraph though, "Why VR Adventure Games are Thriving". Really buddy?

mooreneco2141d ago

That’s because it’s his favourite VR adventure games thus far, a great game always a great game regardless of age - Half life 2/ Ocarina of time - are old but still among the greatest games of all time. The irony of it is several are from last year, depending on platform, have you even played VR?
