Does PlayStation VR Really Have Tracking Issues?

Push Square: "In some ways, it's a shame that the PlayStation VR embargo had to lift. We'd encountered problems with the headset prior to this week's verdicts, which we outlined in our review: the resolution of the screen, the number of cables, and the flawed nature of the PlayStation Move controllers. But we hadn't encountered any tracking issues on the headset itself."

There will be some as it's not the perfect solution. When I played move games and had a lamp nearby, it would effect my tracking as it was behind me. So, light can play a factor as well as setup.

But I won't know until next week hopefully when my preorder is shipped to me and I can play with it.

I'm also hoping that with the purchase of softkinetic, they offer some of their cool tracking solutions to Sony's headset.

High light levels, or even worse, a strong backlight will cause problems. But I've never had any issues with PS move at home, nor with PSVR in the half dozen or so times I've tried it.

coming from my experience with playstation move lets just say i hope its a lot better on psvr but i have my doubts since sony is still using the same move controllers. so many games on the ps3 had to constantly be calibrated.

Red_Renegade3512d ago

nobody believes you, cuz you just troll. your experience is worth nothing, and should have been kept to yourself.

NXSwitch3512d ago

Too bad their VR tech sucks & goes to show they used cheap parts to sell.

mcstorm3512d ago

We all knew this was an issue with move and i expected the same issue to be there with psvr and move/controller light. No way to fix it but to play in a less lit room.

ApocalypseShadow3512d ago

That's what I was thinking too. I'm going to play at low light levels.I don't play PS4 in the living room. I play in the bed room as it was big enough to use move, it should be big enough for PSVR.

Giant bomb were playing in front of a green screen in a lit studio so in that environment I'm not surprised it was playing up but I myself noticed batmans hands were jittering about a bit when I played it even in a dark area so I wonder if it may be an issue with that game in particular cause ive also seen footage of people playing tumble vr which requires precision and it was perfectly still, i have a feeling sony may spring a new move type controller on us at some point in the future anyway.

Might need to calibrate the motion controllers. I know this is possible on the Move, not sure about the DS4 itself though. Maybe some in game calibration. Of course room set up could also have something to do with it....but Move always worked pretty well for me in terms of precision.

mogwaii3512d ago

When I played I went through the calibration process so it wasn't that.
Yeah I remember using the move controllers when they first came out and they were very precise.
Strange situation this but I'm pretty confident it's the early games.

I owned ps move on ps3 and I can co firm the tracking is insanely accurate. so yeah I looks like some sex toy but the tech works.

I think theres a reasone when u demo the unit u sit infront a back drop for a reason. and basic stuff like when your orb is green, don't wear a bright green clothing.....basic stuff.

long before psvr was announced I was hoping they use the tech because it works great.

With move? Please enlighten me? As I played kz3 and So com purely PS move. Only issues I had was calibration sometimes. Be honest are you trying to be cool with the status quo?

T2X3512d ago

Actually, I was a Move early adopter and never really had any complaints about the tracking. But then again I'm about 6-7ft away in a relatively dimly lit room. I Also had the sharpshooter on KZ and SOCOM. They seemed very accurate. BTW, this method of movement tracking used to be the standard in the film industry for special effects even though the PS Move Motion tracking is the dialed way back version and is pretty basic by comparison and there are now more advanced methods.

Are a bunch of games, some of which are nearly 10 years old not one being from 2026. Barely one from 2025.

I do like the irony of the closing paragraph though, "Why VR Adventure Games are Thriving". Really buddy?

mooreneco2139d ago

That’s because it’s his favourite VR adventure games thus far, a great game always a great game regardless of age - Half life 2/ Ocarina of time - are old but still among the greatest games of all time. The irony of it is several are from last year, depending on platform, have you even played VR?
