
Nine years ago today, SEGA debuted the Dreamcast in North America to incredible fanfare and unprecedented sales. Within 24 hours, the Dreamcast had pulled $98 million into SEGA's piggybank. Reviews for launch titles like Soulcalibur, Ready 2 Rumble, and Power Stone were glowing. The PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Xbox were all way out on the horizon. The future of gaming was now -- er... then.
So, what happened?

I wish they didn't have to go through all that, it was a good console!
that thinks this article makes me feel sorry for sega also so much potential it even had a near perfect version of streetfighter 3rd strike on it i still wouldn't mind owning one again.
The Dreamcast was awesome. The only Sega console I wanted to own. Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia and Soul Calibur were amazing games.
