Console wars are warming up again as Project Scorpio is set to outperform PS4 Pro.
The console wars have always been fierce. Commodore or Spectrum? NES or Master System? PlayStation or N64? Each generation sets up camps, and fans rally behind their chosen standard bearer. This generation is different though, with the two major players – Microsoft and Sony – reloading their ammo midway through the conflict.
Microsoft has already launched its Xbox One S, a slimmed down version of the once-hefty beast, now capable of outputting 4K video and upscaling 1080p games to something closer to ultra-HD. Sony retaliated with the announcement of PS4 Slim – the same hardware as the original PS4, now smaller – and PS4 Pro, which promises "4K" gaming and video streaming.

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

I don't think MS has thrown a punch in a long time. But there has been a lot of talk about what MS thinks, and feels, and what surprises them. Not a lot in terms of games though.
Let's just break down all these opinion pieces that have popped up lately to try and stir some momentum for Microsoft. Opinions thinking both consoles have to be exact in every way. If gamers wanted that, then there would be no point in having different consoles.
Nintendo's system doesn't have to be as powerful as the other two. Microsoft doesn't need features like remote play, share play, etc. And Sony doesn't need snap or UL bluray, etc. And for those now supporting UL bluray like it matters that much, most don't even have 4K televisions and most of us couldn't even watch Sony's presser in its intended form because of it. And UL bluray can't even be used for games. It's a non factor.
But let's nip this in the bud. Microsoft is doing better yes. But they had no other choice but to do better or get out of the console space because they F'd up. But the reality is this:
Sony is leading in sales by a wide margin. So wide that Microsoft talks about man hours. Or shots fired. Or car laps.No one cares about that.
Sony is bringing out a new VR platform that holds its own against PC headsets. Microsoft's expensive mic has been disabled, no games are worth mentioning because there aren't any and there is no point in using kinect for VR because oculus has its own camera if it becomes compatible with Scorpio.
Sony has more exclusives and better in house developers. Microsoft has gotten better at making the same 3-4 franchises. But that's not enough for the worldwide community to live on. If you count the amount of games Sony has coming compared to Microsoft, there's just no comparison. None. It's like comparing console sales.
Sony hit Microsoft with a right hook at launch and Microsoft has taken over three years to come out of their daze. And now that they are seeing clearly again, Sony has four hardware platforms going into Christmas:PS3, PS4, PS4 Pro and PSVR. Which is like getting jumped in a back alley by thugs. Microsoft has a big brother coming, but it's like he's on the other side of town and will take an hour walking to get there to help. But by then, Microsoft will be in another daze.
More like the Xbox oneS vs the pspro lol.
They came out swinging with a bat that won't exist for another year or more. They can keep swinging if they want, talk is cheap.
Doesn't take away from the fact that Sony has a treasure trove of hardware and software to close off the year. And Nintendo will be potentially taking the market by storm if NX hits all the right notes.
