VR vs. Oculus’ Widening Rift

Oculus are arguably VR's favourite punching bag. Games developers are rethinking their allegiance, but one man is not a company and tarnishes the good things.

Good article. I could not care less what Palmer does with his money. The developers and engineers at oculus are the ones pushing VR forward. Much more concerned about them fixing God Rays while keeping a higher resolution than I am about some PR mouth piece.

Actually, even though I don't believe Palmer is a good spokesman period, I also feel like developers aren't being truthful about their lack of support for the rift. Rift's biggest problem is that the sales are lackluster so tor an indie developer supporting or not supporting it is really a non issue. I think they made a mistake too at first by trying to lock the Rift down to their store. Also the VIVE seems like a better product from most perspectives. So this story about Palmer only compounds issues they already have.

I have both the Vive and Rift. Saying Vive is better is highly subjective. Rift has access to all Steam games as well as the Rift catalog. The room scale is the selling point of the Vive but if you are more interested in controller based games you will not care about that.

As for sales. No VR titles are selling well on any platform at this point mostly due to all the games sucking haha. Seriously, Chronos is the only game that is legit and it isn't really a showcase for VR to begin with.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing1d 13h ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit1d 14h ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing1d 14h ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster921d 12h ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Tanktopmaster921d 12h ago

Let me be clear. This is sarcasm

To be fair, there are also human made games that release and lack any fun at all either.

jznrpg4d ago

But all of the great games have been made by humans

One is by choice, the other is a feature.

Guild Wars 2 been playing for 14yrs, 1st beta. This is just one company I support, Arenanet and NCSoft, even though I torrent, there are a few PC companies I will buy from. "PlayStation’s Horizon MMO spin-off, Horizon Steel Frontiers." I feel this will be good, NCSoft is a good developer/publisher.

It’s a tool. Use it elevate things and get it done faster. I’m sorry but not every game made by humans is good. If this can help things, then I fully embrace it.
