Will Oculus Rift lose support from game developers because its inventor supports Donald Trump?

It's not just for Trump, he is backing a white supremacist organization.

http://www.thedailybeast.co...

"Along with Luckey, Nimble America was founded by two moderators of Reddit’s r/The_Donald, which helped popularize Trump-themed white supremacist and anti-Semitic memes along with 4Chan and 8Chan. A questionnaire to become a moderator at r/The_Donald posted in March had applicants answer the questions “Is there a difference between white nationalism and white supremacy?” and “Was 9/11 an inside job?”

everything is called whitesupremacist these days.

Giru0173422d ago

This is correct. They've been trying to spin the issue into a political one when it has NOTHING TO DO with the presidential race. It's about Luckey backing the racist Nimble America organization (with much more than the reported $10,000 if leads are to be believed).

DragonPaw3422d ago (Edited 3422d ago )

Fail. Now that the propaganda laws have expired and not reinstated, the whole media is against facts. There you are citing an article that doesn't even directly reference an action of Trump. I don't see him funding rioters.

Pound the war drums to the beat of Hillary Clinton, puppet of George Soros. All this turmoil in our country right now is orchestrated by this agenda. Ignore facts and listen to proxies to form your opinions. In the age of information, ignorance is a choice.

This is a favor from this flavor of the entertainment industry. I don't care about Occulus anyways, and big business operates within big politics.

Overload3422d ago

You realize what Nimble America is right? And that he is one of the founders.

DragonPaw3422d ago (Edited 3422d ago )

@Overload Milo Yiannopoulos is the only name you can put behind Nimble America, and he is not Donald Trump. You are wrong. I don't think Milo has any authority over Trump, so you are either making assumptions or believing what you were intended to believe.

Side note: Milo is a self proclaimed homosexual who prefers black men. HMMM.

kparks3422d ago (Edited 3422d ago )

Guy can back and do whatever the hell he wants.. hope he tells them to shove it! He's free to live his life how he wants. Wether you agree or not with him does not matter...and if this company refuses to do business that's there choice also.

Overload3422d ago

Of course he can back whatever he wants, but people can also choose to not support him because of it.

You may be a bigot if you discriminate against someone for their political views, religion, race or sexual preference.

Christopher3422d ago

Typically bigotry is only for those things that you show a bias towards in which someone else has no control over. Politics and religion do not fall in that arena, sexual preference is up for debate. I think you may have meant to use a word such as intolerant instead of bigot.

TFJWM3422d ago (Edited 3422d ago )

A bigot is merely someone who judges someone else in a group that they do not fall under. It is not contained to just something someone can not change.

Edit: Actually you can be bigoted against a group you even fall under it really just judging a group based on them being members of that group.

mogwaii3422d ago

Sexual preference is a ridiculous term, a gay person doesnt prefer to be gay, they just are so bigitory isnt up for debate at all.

cl19833422d ago

Hypocrite may fit in better.

donthate3422d ago

definition of bigot: a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions.

Sounds like every person condemning Oculus/Palmer in here.

Eonjay3422d ago

Welcome back Chris! Well actually yes you can be bigoted against someone for almost anything that can be used to classify someone into a group. Not just color. It is stupid but true.

Ogygian3422d ago (Edited 3422d ago )

The definition according to the OED: "a person who is intolerant towards those holding different opinions.".

Etymologically, it emerged from the French insinuating that the Normans were religious hypocrites. Having its basis in faith, the word solely refers to people holding different opinions. Intolerant is a bit broader, as it comes from the Latin "tolerare" (to endure), hence it can be used to refer to anyone who refuses to "endure" things they don't like (hence you cannot tolerate things you like - only those you dislike, which for some people can mean race or sexual preferences).

I apologise if I come across as a smart arse (that's not my intention, and I had these definitions very mixed up myself not too long ago!).

Can you be a bigot against bigots?

donthate3422d ago Show
TFJWM3422d ago

@donthate umm no you can't be a bigot to objects...

NicSage3422d ago

Everyone here is a bigot for their opposing views to those who agree with Palmer. Everyone is a bigot in some way. Freedom doesn't stop at feelings.

frostypants3422d ago

Ah yes, the old "being discriminatory against bigots is bigotry" line...

3rd Horizon Is Expected To Be A Long Ways Off, Majority Of Guerrilla Is Working On Hunters Gathering

The third mainline Horizon is expected to be a long ways off, as a majority of Guerrilla Games is working on Hunters Gathering.

What a waste of their time, it would be a lot different if it was a small team of theirs helping an external studio or something but to have this be one of the teams main games is just overall sad to hear.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think we need Horizon 3 right now as I don't think there's much they could really do to make it stand out from Horizon II but I wanted to see a new IP from them to give the Horizon franchise some breathing space so when we did get Horizon 3 it would feel more fresh. Horizon II was a good game but you could tell when playing that it was just a sequel which felt like the main appeal was just being a more super refined version with a lot of quality of life improvements compared to the first game, even then it felt it was struggling at times to really stand out, maybe it was because it was a PS4/PS5 cross play title and didn't get to take advantage of the PS5 new tech who knows.

If this game flops, it's just going to give people more of an excuse online to hate on the franchise even more and might end up hurting the anticipation for Horizon 3. They were better off doing a new IP or a reboot of Killzone

JEECE8h ago

Exactly. Sony seems to be getting things exactly wrong with Horizon. It's the type of IP that needs to disappear for a few years and then come back with a third game that really feels like an evolution from 2, rather than just an iterative sequel, like 2 was from 1. It isn't the type of franchise that is going to support a ton of spinoffs.

Sircolby456h ago(Edited 6h ago)

After watching that trailer...the chances of it flopping are pretty high. That trailer did not look good. Disappointing because I actually enjoy the Horizon series, but Hunters Gathering looks like it will miss the mark.

Kurisu8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

Honestly, I can't say I mind this. Forbidden West was a good game but it didn't exactly leave me desperate for it's successor.

neutralgamer19927h ago

Horizon 3 will most likely be a launch window title for PS6

isarai_lee6h ago

Well I loved the first game, and while i acknowledge how much of a step up the second game, was it's insane! I absolutely did not like the second game from a gameplay standpoint. It seemed woefully unbalanced and a shocking amount of glitches that I'm surprised review sites did not report on.

But this series is a rare case of "just because it sells gangbusters, doesn't mean it's popular" like yes the mainline series sells a ton, but you wouldn't know looking at how it has failed to enter pop culture like God of War has. So trying to sell things by throwing it's name around just isn't going to work, the flop that was the lego game was proof enough of that, and this may be exhibit B for the same case.

I hope im wrong, i mean who doesn't want more fun games, but i just don't see it, and i hope their next game is a new IP cause otherwise it's gotta be so good it cleanses my pallet of the bad taste forbidden west left in my mouth

MayorPauline5h ago

Indeed. I glitched in between obstructions on more than one occasion. I also remember gliding for an extended period of time and the game abruptly blacked out for a few seconds. I thought it crashed but it came back on. That was on the PS4 version of the game.

raWfodog2h ago

I had an excellent experience with Forbidden West because I didn’t play it until the complete edition released a year and half after the original release date. I’ve learned a long time that it’s best to wait until these big games are patched up because they almost always have bugs and glitches when they first release.

DivineHand1252h ago

I am confused. What was wrong with the Horizon 2 gameplay?

The focus of the game was to use the appropriate weapons to detatch craftable parts before killing the machine. This added a lot of challenge to the fights. They also revamped the melee system to allow alloy to do combos and special abilities were added that applied buffs.

Can you provide examples?

-Foxtrot2h ago

I think the best way of looking at it is Sony seems to want to force the success as quick as possible rather than letting it happen naturally over a longer period of time.

God of War has been nurtured for a long time and even when the series started to get stale and over done (there was far too many games coming out) they paused long enough to softboot it with the 2018 God of War that lifted it straight back to the top.

Horizon hasn't been on that journey and even if you compare it to Killzone, a franchise where even by the release of Shadow Fall started to feel a little stale, has had more content (not just games) thrown out in 9 years since the first release compared to what Killzone had in the same period, Shadow Fall being the last game released in its 9th year.

Report: Bend Studio Cancelled Live Service Title "Mirror Pond" Animations Surfaces

The studio behind Days Gone had their next big project cancelled, but it's not entirely lost, as we have unearthed content from "Mirror Pond."

jjb19811d 6h ago

Sony could print money with Days Gone 2 but instead they want to make this live service crap. There are too many shooters already dominating the market. This does not look or sound unique in any way that will draw a huge playerbase other than the initial launch.

Abnor_Mal1d 4h ago

A Days Gone sequel, or live service game. Human camps battling to take over and control the others camp, capture the flag. Using different kinds freakers as pawns on the battlefield.

Once in a while a horde of varying size descends on the battle field, enemies have to team up to survive the onslaught.

Cacabunga1d 2h ago

It’s fine to make gaas , just not buy some of the best of the best single player game studio makers.. the risk is big, and a massive flop would cause irreversible damage,..

tay87011d 3h ago

Not really days gone wasn't a big hit. The vast majority of its sales came after it was deeply discounted. I played it at launch and didn't even bother finishing it. Game was FULL of jank and certainly didn't represent the quality that ps studios are known for. Played more like an xbox 1st party game imo.

Reaper22_1d ago

Nah, it had nothing to do with how it played. It just didnt meet expectations for a sequel to be invested in.

coolbeans1d 2h ago

-"There are too many shooters already dominating the market."

I don't get it: saying this right after confidently believing DG2 would sell like hotcakes seems like a contradiction.

ApexLanding2323h ago

It's not going to draw anyone becasue it was cancelled.

KwietStorm_BLM19h ago

It didn't even sell well enough to do a sequel in the first place. How would they print money?

Bend wasted time so there's no need in wasting time talking about this. What are Bend working on now is the question.

Notellin9h ago

Hopefully they are working on their resumes.

jznrpg1d 2h ago

I’m glad they took this hit for multiplayer games. First party single player is what got them to the top. There is room for them to make multiplayer games but they need to be much more selective about it.

Reaper22_1d ago

Most first party single player games dont keep people playing.without a robust multiplayer component.Thats part of the issue. Sometimes it takes 5 to 6 years for games to be finished and they are getting more expensive to make so the risk is bigger. I liked days gone but it wasn't as well recieved as other 1st party games. Sony cant just do single player only lgames anymore. The industry has changed.

Seraphim23h ago

that's only an issue if you're looking to cash in on MTs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a great single player title not maintaining players.

Eonjay14h ago

@Reaper_22
This is 100% correct but we live in a world where people are dishonest about reality in favor of their own feelings.
Of course Sony has to pursue more than just single player games. They have the data. They can see what people are playing. They HAVE to invest in LS. For them not to do so would be malpractice as they are a corporation. Sony needs to find a way to reduce the development times but the whole industry is dealing with that.

@Seraphim
Why would the biggest company in the gaming industry be the only major publisher not pursuing MT/LS?
It doesn't make sense. Of course there is nothing wrong with Single Player and they are continuing to release SP but they must learn to walk and chew gum at the same time.
