Is the Written Review Doomed?

With video and other forms of visual media dominating the internet, it seems fewer and fewer people are actually reading. Can the written review survive?

_LarZen_3529d ago

With so many reviewers making a video review I personally cant be bothered with reading one. Yeah I'm lazy but that's the truth...and I'm probably not alone in this.

Which is odd since a video review takes way long to watch than a review to read...

I hate how people lately make videos for every single little thing, you google how to do something and they go on for about 10 minutes in a slow ass way showing you every step with the mouse, sometimes even mis clicking and the like, while a short 5 steps list with each a very short sentence could've been read in like 30 seconds flat...

Probably not. It's extremely less time-consuming to post a written review, and simply faster to get out than a video review. It also allows people on a budget and not enough time to gather footage and audio, like me, a chance to raise their voice.

God, I hope not. I hate wasting time on watching a 20 minute video with 30 seconds worth of information in it. Give me a written review!

I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise

We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.

Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.

it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
