Does a PS4 Pro Stack Up Against PCs, Though?

With the PS4 Pro aiming for the PC gaming demographic one has to wonder if it even has a shot. Here are our thoughts on Sony's next addition to consoles, beyond the sheer technical comparisons.

OMG who cares? Why does it matter?

ApocalypseShadow3497d ago (Edited 3497d ago )

No one cares except those that are threatened by PlayStation and it's games. Like the individuals below.

The fact that they continue to compare PlayStation systems to PC means that they have enough power to compete. Even Xbox can compete. And most PCs aren't even powerful enough to run PS4 games. It takes more power to outdo PlayStation games.

We know that if Sony installed windows or Linux on them, they could run them very well. And use a mouse, keyboard, flight stick, etc. And when it comes to games, it compares very well to the top games out on the PC. And that's base PS4 while ignoring Pro.

But you're right. Console gamers don't care to compare to PCs . Since PCs are not consoles, that's why we ignore them. We've ignored them for decades. It's not like there are even commercials for PC games. They only get mentioned as a version you could buy for a game now because developers want you to know it exists and piggyback off of console releases. If they weren't mentioned, we would forget about them.

They compare themselves to us all the time. It makes them feel better to have more potential power. When PCs and steam get their own advertising, then I can say PCs matter. Even mobile games get more commercials than PC games. We know they would never advertise PC games on their own because it's obvious most PCs can't even run the games that would be shown.

That broad brush off "PCs" are more powerful in reality is only really a few and ignoring 90%+ that aren't.

Hey, author of the article above here. Thanks for the great reply btw, I do love reading other people's perspectives on the matter since I've noticed it spans quite a gambit. I do agree that its difficult to generally compare them on a more technical aspect, which is why I went for a more cultural route. I agree however that it's probably not nearly as big a deal for console gamers as it is to Sony. It just sounds nice I suppose on paper to say your system is like a PC, which is interesting. It feels like they are trying to appeal to market that they think exists but in reality really doesnt. Gamers are gamers in the end. We will play regardless and I think they kinda miss that sometimes. Thanks for all the feed back though from everyone :D

Or ones who like to brag about stuff...

nX3497d ago (Edited 3497d ago )

I consider myself a "core" gamer and even though my PC beats my PS4, it stands no chance against the PS4Pro. It probably trumps 90% of the PC's out right now, you'd have to pay at least 800$ for a comparable rig.

Majister-Ludi3496d ago

Obviously you do since you came and threw a tizzy. The simple answer is of course not, not when it comes out in the future and my computer is more powerful and it's 3 years old. Console will never truly stack since they come out and stay static. I can continuously upgrade my pc when and how I want without having to be restricted in any way.

ziggurcat3497d ago

consoles will never "stack up" to PC. ever. doesn't matter whether it's PS4 Pro or Scorpio.

blackout3497d ago

We all know the pc has unlimited possibilities, but the jury is out on Scorpio till we get official specs. Looks to be a beast. The pro is a fraud and a fake, Sony fans have to be crazy to purchase that thing.

PSN_ZeroOnyx3497d ago (Edited 3496d ago )

And M$ fans are stupid to ever consider Scorpio when all the games can be bought for a better PC.

OT I'll stick with PlayStation and their awesome exclusives, not interested in PC or Xbox games.

ZeroX98763496d ago

@blackout

always consider the price your paying for the experience you get out of it. the PS4 pro for $400 delivers great performances from what we saw.

My take on it is try to build a better/equally performing PC for gaming with a budget of $400 plus tax.
Some out there aren't going to spend more than this on a gaming system, because that's how much of a priority gaming is for them. PC is better when you can AND want to invest in it.

BrettAwesome3496d ago

Actually it's not fake at all. It's quite real 😃

MilkMan3496d ago

The answer to the title, absolutely not. The Pro is equivalent to a four-year-old mid-level PC.

uth113496d ago

Raw power really only matters to a small subset of users. It's like they base their swlf-worth on having "the best" or something..

People choose consoles for the simplicity, the plug and play aspects, the price or for exclusives. If a game still looks good on a console, they won't care that it looks better on a PC. That alone isn't enough to make them upgrade

Petebloodyonion3496d ago

Here's the pros of PS4 pro vs PC
- a single architecture vs multiple rig = a more stable and optimise experience.
- A stronger community in term of multiplayer
- Equal footing for all owners in term of configurations and performance
- No need to search for patches, tweeks, Steam forum, etc.

Cons
- Already out of date vs mid pc graphics cards.
- Questionable bottleneck possibility.
- not upgrade possible.
- Mods.
- Sony's policies regarding digital titles vs Steam.
- paying PS+ vs Free play
- Rebuy vs extra settings vs updates

Hurfs3496d ago

I get what your saying but "A stronger community in term of multiplayer" in what way?

Petebloodyonion3496d ago

Simple there's often less ppl playing the same game online on pc compare to the console version except Moba game.

Hurfs3496d ago

Wow I guess ignorance truly is bliss

Yikes you do not know what you are blathering.

I can't sit here and act like I know these workers financial situations. And I'm sure nobody wakes up WANTING to go to court. But for the sake of the industry, I wish some of these types of cases made it to trial.

Settlements allow companies to continue to do whatever abusive practices they do. While the trials (should the company lose) would actually force real changes for the better.

But again, I'm not in these workers shoes and I can understand them not wanting to risk it.
