Console Gaming Conundrums: Chasing the PC

TechRaptor writer Robert Grosso discusses the Playstation 4 Pro and goes through the history of console gaming. Can consoles ever match the power of the PC? Sony is aiming to do it, but past history shows that line is a delicate one to cross, especially when publishers release new console system mid-generation.

WTF is 'the PC'? There is my PC and then there is the enthusiasts and their individual PCs but there is no 'the PC'.
The Pro is stronger than MY PC. Just because I have a PC doesn't make it better and everything.

Lest we go to steam and see what PC gamers really game on. Only this loud minority who claims that all PCs are super computers. The Pro is more powerful that a large percentage of the PCs gamers are gaming on today.

This is fact. So out of here with 'the PC'... power of 'the PC'... which effing PC are we talking about.
Stop acting like everyone has a super rig. its the biggest lie in all of gaming.

freshslicepizza3525d ago

ok, but the point is you have a CHOICE on the pc. right now sony is only giving you 2 choices and microsoft is giving you 2 choices (soon just one choice then back to 2 choices when sacorpio comes out) and nintendo who the heck knows about them.

the ps4 pro is trying to bridge the gap in performance to what is available on the pc and is still limiting what you can achieve. price and affordablity is the issue and sony has gone the direction of affordability over performance with the ps4 pro.

It's more about optimization than raw power. a lot of devs that develop for consoles optimize for them in particular. Thats maybe why it requires higher pc settings to run their lower spec'd, but more optimized, console counterpart. Console games don't need to catch up, they look great for the price you pay imo and Sony and Nintendo aren't worried about PC. Devs need to get their **** together with buggy games and ports thinking most PC gamers have really high-end PCs. I do want one in the future though for Squad and project reality.

ONESHOTV23525d ago (Edited 3525d ago )

PoSTedUP---it's call future proofing in the PC community and it's something console only gamers dont need to worry about becuase it won't affect them because unlike gaming on pc we dont need to buy another console to play games we could not run the first time they came out. another note you talk about optimization like there are no sh-t port on console i can name a handful but i won't go over that list.unlike you i have a choice in what settings my games are going to be played at optimization lol more like downgrade so the game can run better.

@ONE

"it's call future proofing in the PC community"

Yes. Never said it wasnt.

"and it's something console only gamers dont need to worry about"

Yes.

"because unlike gaming on pc we dont need to buy another console to play games we could not run the first time they came out."

Yes.

"You talk aboit optimization like there are no sh-t port on consoles"

No you jist assume that.Yes, there are. Never said there wasnt. It's just been pretty predominant on pc this gen and last. That's why devs need to get their **** together.

"unlike you i have a choice in what settings my games are going to be played at optimization lol more like downgrade so the game can run better"

Yes.

But Devs don't downgrade console games, they make the most out of the limited hardware. That's why it's called... optimization... downgrading would be from porting pc to console. Sounds like you took it personally tho, sorry bro lol.

But the fact is consoles and corps aren't worried about PCs. That was my point, and reply to eonjay and this article.

Only in 2% pc fantasy land is who think consoles are trying to keep up with PC. They never have, they just buy the cheapest and best hardware to make a profit, bc they have nothing to worrie about in regards to PCs. The ps4pro is trying to keep up with itself and rez (VR and TVs/media) that's about it.

I think 1% of hardcore PC gamers wish ppl cared more about "bridging the gap" than anyone actually does; which is little to none.

@moldy- yeah there are a lot of perks to pc gaming. That's why I want a PC eventually. plus cheap steam games and such. It just a platform I am not ready for. I game across the board and I've had my hands full my whole life trying to catch up with everything. I'd lose my mind trying to dive into steam if I did atm, lol.

Actually one shot, it is because of PC developers bringing over their sh#tty work practices to consoles. Before PC developers started making console games, all console games were tested before release and worked.

But as soon as PC developers came on the console scene, they brought over their game freezing, poor frame rates, patches, updates etc. We didn't know what patches were until we saw sloppy work for $60.

All our games used to work day one.I knew as soon as they started making console games, we would have to deal with sloppy work.

Pitfall, donkey Kong, mega man, super contra, sonic, nights into dreams, tekken,Mario kart, soul calibur, devil may cry, crimson skies, etc through the years just worked. So we can thank your developers who never optimized their games to a certain graphics card and had terrible driver support.

You didn't have to buy another console, you bought a different graphics card because the games sometimes ended up being incompatible. Don't lie.

like a dog chasing it's tail but it will never catch it. but any way that doesnt really matter to me becuase i have the money to afford both

Ps4 pro is stronger then most pcs, and the scorpio definitely is and Consoles Aren't trying to compete with high end pcs that Would be suicidal

Bayonetta may be coming to Nintendo Switch

Bringing out the big guns! Fans have speculated for long that Platinum Games’ Bayonetta would find its way to the Nintendo Switch. It made sense for this to happen since Platinum struck a deal with Nintendo a few years ago that secured funding for the development of Bayonetta 2, exclusively for Wii U.

Littil_Devil3235d ago

I truly hope that it's going to happen.

Sono4213234d ago

Considering I took a pass on both of them it would be nice to get them bundled together, but I wont get my hopes up

JHOP3235d ago

It's 99% coming but the point is, will it be a new game or a collection of the old ones. Both possibilities sound great but I would prefer Bayonetta 3

PigPen3235d ago (Edited 3235d ago )

I already know that it's coming, it's just a matter of when. I don't want to wait two years for it.

JHOP3235d ago

It would also be nice to know if it's going to be a collection of the first two games or a whole new game. Bayonetta 3 on Switch is all I need

EddieNX 3235d ago

I Imagine it will be a filler release for first half 2018

Officialxandr3235d ago

Hopefully we get 1 & 2 for the Switch in September or so and 3 in 2018.

DaFeelz3235d ago

Being able to play this game anywhere, is almost too good to be true. Which is why I need this to be true. Please be true!
