Not a lot of people liked Red Dead Revolver, but just watch some people band wagon on this game because of its more famous sequel

MasterCornholio3527d ago

It's very different than its sequel.

darthv723527d ago

Played this on xbox, it was okay but the sequel is great.

SmielmaN3527d ago

Loved red dead revolver. Totally out of the blue release!

KiwiViper853526d ago

@ion666

That's my opinion too, but never been brave enough to say it.

P_Bomb3527d ago

Hey, I liked it enough to buy it twice! Wasn't amazing but it was good. Took a risk, bringing attention back to the dead western genre, laying it down for Gun, Juarez and Redemption.

fenome3527d ago

Gun was great, I loved that game.

BrianOBlivion3526d ago

Me too, and if there's any kind of decent graphical improvements on the PS4, it looks as though I'll be picking it up and playing a third time round.

IceKoldKilla3526d ago

@BrianOBlivion

All PS2 games on PS4 run at 1080p (60fps too? I forget.) and include trophies.

Dark_Knightmare23527d ago

Really I remember playing this on ps2 when it originally came out and than on ps3 and I loved it

G20WLY3527d ago

Me too, I also really liked Gun, albeit for different reasons. Both were a far shorter experience than Redemption, but that's not always a bad thing...I struggled midway through RDR and considered hanging up my spurs, but I persevered and saw it through. I'm glad I did, of course, or I would have missed that ending!

NukaCola3527d ago

I read this is Red Dead Redemption damn it LOL

zombiewombie3527d ago

I loved it, especially that menu music. The story was very confusing though.

Artemidorus3527d ago

Don't forget they will be angry if it's not a 100+ game with season passes.

How dare they.

S2Killinit3527d ago

And you felt you needed to make sure to let everybody know that their bandwaggon isnt justified because your opinion is more important than theirs. Got it.

CaptainObvious8783527d ago

I hope that means Redemption will be coming soon to PS4.

Also, Australia finally gets a bloody game first. We always seem to get games couple days after everyone else in the world.

XanderZane3527d ago (Edited 3527d ago )

Well M$ making Red Dead Redemption B/C on XB1 caused sales to rise almost 6000%. Let's see what this will do for RDR on PS3.
https://gamerant.com/red-de...

I believe Red Dead Revolver is B/C on the XBox 360. I remember playing it about 2 yrs ago. Decent game, but Red Dead Redemption is much, much better.

Angeljuice3526d ago

Like apple juice is better than a Thursday afternoon?

XanderZane3526d ago

@Angeljuice
Much better. lol!!

NecoTehSergal3527d ago

I loved the game, was the only reason why I knew about the games' existence before Rockstar picked it up xD I remember beating it on the PS2 if I recall, I had the most powerful gun too.

Christopher3527d ago

Never played it or really heard anything good about it.

Angeljuice3526d ago

It's a good, high quality, fun action shooter. I loved it.

(Now you have).

Nathan_Hale533527d ago

I enjoyed Revolver, although I don't really feel the need to buy and replay it. RDR is a sequel that is 100x better. Such a great game.

Yetter3527d ago

I used to love the gun duels

Brotard3526d ago

Remember playing through this on ps2 and loved every second of it. Was at first salty by how many people talked about the sequel because I was a purest little shit. But I learned to love redemption!

Sciurus_vulgaris3526d ago

Red Dead Redemption isn't a sequel to RDR, it's more of a reboot.

BrianOBlivion3526d ago (Edited 3526d ago )

@PhoenixUp
Unlike you seem to be able, I can't speak for a single other person, but i can say that Red Dead Revolver was one of my favourite games on the PS2. I'm pretty sure I came to that conclusion long before the PS3 came out.

Angeljuice3526d ago

I loved revolver, the sense of humour was spot on. Redemption was a completely different game, they aren't really the same genre (both Western themed, but one is a level based comedy/action shooter and the other is a Cowboy sandbox ).

SkippyPaccino3526d ago

Man that game was tough... Lol! Good times

InTheLab3526d ago

I loved this game. Was so unique before they turned it into gta

Deep-throat3527d ago

I want the Xbox version, the PS2 was inferior.

2pacalypsenow3527d ago

You can still play it on Xbox as long as you still have one, problem solved

XanderZane3521d ago

You can play it on the XBox 360 as well. It's B/C. Seems some people disagreed with me on this.

TheCommentator3527d ago

If I remember right, the only difference between the Xbox and PS2 versions was a tiny bit of GFX. That means that the PS4 version, looking the best, would now be the best, right? Unless you're actually talking about having the Xbox version on the XB1 I'm not sure I follow.

Gecksta3527d ago

Was shit then and is shit now.

Perjoss3527d ago

worthwhile comment right there

Fishy Fingers3527d ago

His opinion. Correct me if I'm wrong that's exactly what the comment section is for. Had he said:

'Great then, great now' would it of made any difference?

TheUndertaker853527d ago

@Fishy Fingers: Yes. People like ass kissers. Not kickers.

Perjoss3527d ago

Earth, 2016. Where people rush to defend someone that craps all over other peoples hard work.

Kurt Russell3527d ago

Agreed, certainly won't hold up now. Redemption was so much a better game.

sullynathan3527d ago

lol N4G, if this guy was saying this game was good you would be agreeing with him. It probably wasn't.

IIFloodyII3527d ago

It's like people can agree or disagree with different opinions, crazy.

sullynathan3527d ago

n4g users don't have opinions, they are part of a hivemind

Angeljuice3526d ago (Edited 3526d ago )

"It probably wasn't"

It was a high quality title, one of the best on the PS2.
It was in no way "shit", it isn't really a valid viewpoint without extrapolation. It smells of someone who never played it.

If someone said Uncharted 4 was "shit", you probably wouldn't take it seriously without more of an explaination. Same thing.

JackBNimble3526d ago

Well I played it and I thought that it was total shit.
But does anyone care what I think ? Probably not because games are subject ...

sullynathan3526d ago

@AngelJuice I doubt it was a high quality title. People here like to inflate the quality of unknown old games, as you can see by the amount of disagrees that OP got.

Of course I wouldn't take it seriously if someone said UC4 was shit.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 3526d ago
XanderZane3521d ago

You've never played it. Definitely wasn't shit. It wasn't anywhere as good as Red Dead Redemption either. It was still a fun game though. Hard as hell some times.

ironcrow23863527d ago

Never actually got to play revolver..can anyone tell me if its worth getting ☺

MetalGearsofWar3527d ago

It's not like Redemption. But its a fun shooter.

BiggCMan3527d ago

Hell yea it's worth playing. It's better than Redemption for me because it embraces the batshit insanity of that era and is basically a comedy game. Rockstar used to make games like that back then, now their games are all grown up which is fine, but it's just not them. So to me Revolver is way better because of it's silliness and arcadey gameplay. Also think GTA has not been very good since the PS2 days.

3527d ago
InTheLab3526d ago

Revolver was unique. Redemption was gta with horses and better story. Buying this when it's out and I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with this opinion

InTheLab3526d ago

It's basically like Call of Jaurez Bound in Blood but has a cool quick draw mechanic and bizarre characters. Great game if you love westerns.

Kyosuke_Sanada3527d ago

The music was great but the game had some serious control issues especially when it came to fisticuffs.

CorndogBurglar3527d ago

Lol "fisticuffs".

Such a good word.

Red Dead Revolver Review - A call back to the days of Wild West stories on the PlayStation 2

Released in 2004, Red Dead Revolver stands as a testament to Rockstar Games' ability to transcend genres and immerse players in captivating narratives. While it may not share the sprawling open-world characteristics of its successor, "Red Dead Redemption," this PlayStation 2 title holds a unique place in gaming history. The game originally started as a concept made by Capcom before being picked up by Rockstar Games.

Max Payne, Red Dead Revolver and more added to the old Xbox marketplace

Eleven games from the original Xbox were added to the old marketplace, including some Rockstar classics like Max Payne, Manhunt and Red Dead Revolver.

porkChop1642d ago

It's pretty clear at this point that Xbox are about to drop a bunch of new backwards compatible games for the 20th anniversary.

Kurt Russell1640d ago

It has been 20 years?!? How old I am I! I was 18 when I played Halo... JEEZE I AM DECREPID!

Orchard1642d ago

Max Payne and Manhunt? Please be true!

Orchard1641d ago (Edited 1641d ago )

I'll definitely be picking these up, would love to play through MP 1+2 and Manhunt again, and even RDRevolver.

I hope they add MP3 next!

EDIT: It looks like they're already purchasable too? I wonder if they work/run already.

autobotdan1641d ago (Edited 1641d ago )

Orchid I am still at work. I've been at work all day so I haven't tried them yet. But I have friends at home who tried the exact original Xbox game discs and they are not yet working. We all probably have to wait till November 15 Monday afternoon for them to work. Just four more days to go..

Orchard1641d ago

Thanks for the info! Useful!

autobotdan1641d ago

And both games Manhunt and Max Payne get 4k resolution upgrades!

GamerRN1641d ago

I am probably the ultimate minority here, but please, give me Risk Factions!

traumadisaster1641d ago

There is like half a dozen of those made in last decade I think.

GamerRN1638d ago

Not one of them was like Risk: Factions

autobotdan1641d ago

After next week, Dead or Alive 4 will be the only DOA not playable on xbox series consoles. Well they might even just add DOA4 to BC on Monday. That would make Xbox the only consoles to play DOA 1-6

"Cons
Paper-Thin Story with Boring Characters
Game Becomes Frustrating
Too Many Bad Boss Fights
Showdown Mode is Barebones
Bad Voice Acting"

funny, that's exactly what i thought about red dead redemption.
hoping i enjoy the second one because the first one,i played it last year for the first time, was boring as hell.

dated i guess. maybe that would have been a better con then expecting a game of that style to hold up in today's market.

smolinsk2756d ago

Just accept its not a genre for you, if you find it boring then stay away from red dead 2 please, everyone else don't want to hear your moaning about it.

sampsonon2756d ago (Edited 2756d ago )

just using the same logic as the writer of this article. i liked Revolver when it first came out, yet if i were to play it for the first time this gen, compared to games today, i would $hit on it as well because the standards and quality of games are way better, when it comes to this style of game, then they were 12 yrs ago.

i played RDRD for the first time this gen and missed the point when it was cutting edge especially because of the way games are made now a days i was left feeling bored running around in an empty world playing a game that's graphics didn't age very well especially when compared to the high end open world games we enjoy this gen.

he reviewed a game 14 yrs past it's expiration date like he was reviewing a new game.
i loved Revolver back then and would have given it a 9/10. but if i played it now i would give it a 4/10.

get my point?

and yes, i will buy RDR2 because it will have today's standards, fully realized world and more realistic graphics, that will keep me entertained.

reviewing a 2004 game is a joke.

Nu2756d ago

Lol I made a comment a few weeks back expressing that I feel sorry for whoever finds RDR or RDR2 boring. If you looked at RD as an Oregon trail spiritual successor then maybe you'd be able to enjoy RDR

EazyC2756d ago

It's like people who think Goodfellas - or maybe something more fitting, like Unforgiven - is a terrible movie.

I mean, okay I guess?

Profchaos2756d ago

Red dead revolver is 15 years old maybe more it's going to feel dated because it is.

EazyC2756d ago

That's mad. Even if it's not your genre, I don't think some of those opinions are even subjectively valid.

For example, the Witcher 3 technically isn't my "kind" of game (medieval style fantasy) , but I am still blown away by it on several levels.

King_Noctis2756d ago (Edited 2756d ago )

You honestly thought RDR1 had paper thin story and bad voice acting?

Forgive me for being blunt, but how long have you been gaming exactly?

smolinsk2756d ago (Edited 2756d ago )

#Sampsonon

Red dead 1 is still fun, never boring, wrong word to use for and old game. it would have been boring for you back in 2010 as well if it's boring now.

Great story in red dead 1.
World is still beautiful and most of all very atmospheric.
Good voice acting.

That's why I say stay away from red dead redemption 2, it's gonna be boring for you, you ride around and look at the world and then stuff happens, that's it, just like red dead 1.

You are just not and open world guy.
