Not really just a click bait headline.

Abash3535d ago (Edited 3535d ago )

Project Scorpio won't change anything drastically either, the games are made with the original PS4/Xbox One in mind first and foremost when developing. These consoles are for people who want great textures, better AA, lighting, etc.

ChrisChambers3535d ago

Lots of those on this site. It's absurd

3535d ago
FITgamer3535d ago (Edited 3535d ago )

It's click bait because it states the obvious. Hardware updates aren't going to drastically change any game being made for multiple platforms. Changes in game mechanics or gameplay drastically change games, not enhanced visuals.

KiwiViper853535d ago

Resolution isn't going to affect gameplay, but 60fps would...

4Sh0w3535d ago (Edited 3535d ago )

"It doesn’t drastically change a thing. It’s just prettier and nicer, for the enthusiasts who are into that sort of stuff." -GG Technical Director

Duhh???...I mean what were folks expecting? It's just gonna play ps4 games in upscaled 4K, Scorpio won't be much different, likely it will have either higher resolution multi games & a few more native 4K games.

What I'm hoping though is that Scorpio hardware will be the full feature media device for my living room...everything X1 is now and more day 1.

wonderfulmonkeyman3535d ago

Yeah, but it's honest clickbait, at least.
And it would be just as honest if it were referring to the NX or Scorpio.

GamingIVfun3534d ago (Edited 3534d ago )

That's what they have been saying all along, and it's true, you will have basically the same gameplay on both a PS4 and PS4 Pro or even a Xbox One or Xbox Ones S. Some games you will have the option of FPS over visuals(choice)in single player, but for all intents and purposes the same gameplay, Should be common sense, especially to die hard gamers.

PS4 Pro, I will bet will have the best looking and best FPS for most games coming out this holiday season on console.

Alexious3534d ago

It's an official comment from a first party developer who, for once, does not necessarily advertise the new console as the best thing ever. It has nothing to do with a "click bait headline".

rainslacker3534d ago

I found it interesting, because for all this time I thought it would make Horizon play like Candy Crush. Now that I know it won't, I'm a bit uncertain if the PS4P has the chops to really make it through the rest of the generation./s

morganfell3534d ago

It isn't going to change gameplay when you have made the intelligent choice not to alienate your core PS4 audience. And they do not need to. Sony made smart choices when designing the original PS4 and so they do not need to drastically change the system now. Looking at the gameplay in titles such as Horizon, God of War, Days Gone you do not need to change the gameplay. Of course Sony with a full stable of great titles and original IPs can say this and its fact.

PS4Pro isn't the next generation in hardware, whether a .5 step in the direction of what is too come. Thats what it should be, otherwise this would be a new console altogether. In the same way that the New 3DS is still a 3DS.

Some people are looking for this generational leap in a .5 upgrade and that is not what this console has been marketed as nor has Sony been unclear on its messaging. People know right now what this device is about and what it will offer. If that isnt for them, then fine pass on this hardware.

Personally I want my ps4 games to play the best they can and if this device offers a smoother experience for me then I wont hesitate in getting it. With that said, I dont own a ps4 right now.

If there are people going, well I am fine with my current console so i will pass on this. That isnt a bad thing, in fact that is a good thing. It just means Sony succeeded in making a device for those that want more without alienating the current PS4 owners. The last thing you want to feel like is that your console that you just brought is obsolete.

KiwiViper853535d ago

But your ps4 pro will be obsolete in just 1 years time...

Ravenheartzero3535d ago

@kiwi

Why? Where are ps4 exclusives going?

mocaak3535d ago (Edited 3535d ago )

@KiwiViper85

PS4 Pro will never be obsolete because it has exclusives. While Scorpio is already obsolete before it's even been released, because all of it's "exclusives" will be available on a PC with much more powerful hardware.

Overload3535d ago (Edited 3535d ago )

"But your ps4 pro will be obsolete in just 1 years time..."

This is so reminiscent of the PS3 coming up a year later, it's not even funny. There is one big difference though, Xbox isn't PlayStation and doesn't have the pull worldwide to mount any sort of relevant comeback.

Aenea3535d ago

@Kiwi

So your Xbox One was obsolete in 2013? Why haven't you upgraded back then to the more powerful PS4? Or in November the PS4 Pro? Some comments around here *shakes head*

3535d ago
rainslacker3534d ago (Edited 3534d ago )

@Kiwi

Think you may need to look up, and take the time to understand the term obsolete. Less powerful than another option does not equal obsolete. If it did, the X1 released obsolete, the Slim was obsolete, and MS will make both obsolete in just over a year from now. Steam makes the Windows Store and other options obsolete. A ferrarri makes a Honda Civic obsolete.

Since MS itself is saying that it won't make their system obsolete, and they will continue to support it, that makes it the complete opposite of obsolete on the X1 side, and as long as Sony continues to mandate support for OGPS4, it will remain relevant.

Ju3534d ago (Edited 3534d ago )

What is a "Next gen" console? A new User interface? A totally different way the console presents itself? What is it. I do not understand. What does qualify a "new generation"?

These days are over. It will be suicide to break everything and make developers re-write games for a "new generation". The current platform ecosystem works - this is true for both PlayStation and XBox.

All these "new generations" (moving forward) will do is, ramp up the performance numbers. But they will remain compatible for quite some time. Even the machine after the PS4 Pro.

So, not caring what "chip" is actually in the machine, what do people expect from a "Next Gen" ? Faster, better, right. In in this respect, how is a machine more than 2x faster than the current "Gen" not next gen? The "Pro-Pro" won't be exponential faster than the new Pro today. It will again release in 2-3 years. It is just not possible to build a machine in the same form factor and same price point within this time which wipes the previous generation.

And that's a good thing. First time ever you can swap the HW and see improvements on your existing game library - even without a patch.

Don't you think that games dipping at 30fps or using dynamic resolution will automatically eliminate these short comings without touching a single line of code? That's exactly what will happen.

A game struggling at 60fps today will simply run at constant 60fps - dynamic framerate hitting 40 will be closer to 60. There is no magic to that. That alone for me is worth upgrading. And the good thing is, because the current PS4 is still on the market, the performance target must be that platform, which means, the Pro will always be better.

A new generation - which will not be backwards compatible (is that what you are saying???) will a) have now games at launch and b) developer will yet again overload it with features so the framerate will yet again get a hit.

b) will happen to the Pro (and Scorpio) again, because we like pushing the boundaries and full features 4K with more detail than "standard" 1080p will stress any new machine - yet again. But the first time ever, gamers get options! Don't like that? Go play it in PS4 more and get a rock solid frame rate. PS4 games today are looking impressive already, but some sacrifice performance for fidelity. With Pro you can have both. 4K@60fps with beyond todays 1080p fidelity will also not be feasible for the machine released next fall. Sony found the sweet spot. That "next gen" will be exactly that, 2-3 years out: Better tech and better 4K saturation will be happen just then...

DigitalRaptor3534d ago (Edited 3534d ago )

The Pro and its positioning in the market one year before the Scorpio is really rubbing some people the wrong way and certainly bringing out the Xtrolls. With 5-10 million Pro sales in before Scorpio hits, developers and publishers are not going to sit PlayStation 4 development on the back seat because Scorpio has better specs. Microsoft and its fanboys are going to find that out the hard way.

Bolts3534d ago

The PS4 semi-Pro is $400 console you buy while waiting for the console you really want to buy.

Bolts3533d ago

Lol PC gaming is so niche that I can't buy a $600 1080 GTX because it's sold out for the last 3 months. Ok no problem I'll just buy the entry level RX480 Polaris that the consoles are based on....nope. Also sold out.

Who's buying all these niche hardware that nobody uses??

RpgSama3535d ago

Clickbait article, of course it won't change gameplay, they will be the same games, just prettier, the same will happen with the Scorpio, unless they allow games to be made excusively for it, it will only offer visual and performance upgrades, the games can and will look a lot better but they also must still play the same.

wonderfulmonkeyman3535d ago

See, this guy gets it.
Yeah, it's clickbait, but it's an honest statement, and it applies to all consoles, not just Sony.

3535d ago
Overload3535d ago (Edited 3535d ago )

How is this interesting? This is stupid.

Does playing a PC game on Ultra change the gameplay? No, it changes the resolution and FX.

kraenk123535d ago

You forgot the /s. People don't get your sarcasm.

OB1Biker3535d ago (Edited 3535d ago )

Not really, nobody thought games would be completely different because of more power except for games like NMS whose dev said Pro could fundamentally change the experience.
IMO as long as they need to be playable on previous hardware they obviously can't use the new hardware to its full potential. Only exclusives to true new gen can do that.

_-EDMIX-_3535d ago

I mean I assumed everybody already knew this anyway. I don't recall hearing any developer say that they're making entire exclusive features for the upgrades.

Kenshin_BATT0USAI3534d ago

Not really. I don't see why people were expect a new ps4 to somehow change "HOW" games are played. Scorpio will be the same thing. Just more horsepower for the same games.

Sevir3534d ago

It's not! The Pro enhances games visually and in somecases technically by Frame rate... this is because it's architecture is mirroring the OG PS4 but offering greater performance power... Games are designed with PS4 in mind and then to accommodate PRO in a PC like manner. The same will be said for Scorpio as all games with exceptional for VR, must support XBO and XBO S. So you won't get game changing gameplay experiences on either because the base platform is the. OG XBO... and keep in mind if you're not on a 4K HDR screen you'll likely not see the benefits...

I'm a graphics whore, so I need it. I just hope it doesn't become a regular thing in console cycles, or I'm screwed between PC upgrades and console upgrades...

kneon3535d ago

I expect it will be a regular thing, I predicted this was the direction they would go before the gen even started.

But since they have adopted x86 architectures then you can expect forward and backwards compatibility with next gen, so jumping on the next gen bandwagon won't be necessary to enjoy the new games.

Genuine-User3535d ago (Edited 3535d ago )

The title is out of context and misleading, I don't think it's on purpose though. The dev starts with: "It’s just a visual enhancement. It doesn’t drastically change the nature of your games… We do the same calculations."

What I assume he means is, it doesn't drastically change a thing about Horizon's gameplay.

Neonridr3535d ago

yep, it's still the same game in the end.

Much like 2 PC players playing a game. One has a GTX 970 and can run a game at 1080p/60fps let's say where the second person has a GTX 1080 and is running the game at 1440p+/60fps+. The second guy will get a better visual experience, but the first player still gets to play the same great game.

3535d ago
KiwiViper853535d ago

60fps would change the way the game plays tho... Surely 4.2tf should translate to higher frames? It's not multiplayer, where there's a case for parity.

DigitalRaptor3534d ago

If you think it's that simple then I feel sorry for you, especially when the article in question is talking about an open-world game that is already pushing astounding detail in its character models and environments and systems.

AngelicIceDiamond3535d ago

Mainly a visual upgrade and some stability.

SweatyFlorida3535d ago

Yup, which is exactly what these consoles were chalked up to be, more powerful for players who want a more premium gaming experience. Scorpio will be much the same, stronger for sure, but will still be the same xb1 games, just prettier/stable.

dveio15d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing15d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9215d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit15d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing15d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9215d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
