The PS4 Pro was most likely intended to compete with Scorpio, but Sony's arrogance got the best of them, and Microsoft isn't messing around this time.

So what happened to all the rumors of the PS4 Pro spec bump to match the Scorpio? All of a sudden they are not competitors. So much confusion from Sony.

Of course PS4 is not a Scorpio competitor. Scorpio is just hype at this point PS4 Pro is a real product. Next year if it ever comes out then let's discuss. It wouldn't be the first time a product gets hyped up then never released.

Okay, I am Xbox fan, but I can't help myself to be disappointed by the PS4 Pro.

The hardware upgrade is okay, nothing special, just what you would expect three years after the PS4.

No 4K BluRay player is beyond stupid. They let MS have the only console with 4K BluRay support out there. That is quite something.

Yeah, it is priced well, but I feel like waiting one more year and stick with my current setup is well worth it. Especially with games like Gears of War 4, Scalebound, Sea of Thieves, Halo Wars 2 and Crackdown 3 coming out for Xbox One. That should keep me busy before the REAL upgrade is out.

Xbox became a major player due to performance. Great games, etc. came after. Like it or not, 95% of multi plat games last gen played better on 360. Fan boys are so dumb. it is obvious that M$ were caught off guard when finding out about the neo development. while already getting killed in Marketshare they couldnt afford to let Sony dominate unobstructed so they jumped the gun on thier next project and made an announcment on hopeful future specs to kill any neo hype. To some extent it has worked wonderfully looking at some of the comments. However Sony usually plays the long game and holds their cards closer to the chest. Microsofts strategy could seriously backfire if for instance the Pro eats up more market share in the next year plus and then holds it own for the next year or two after Scorpio's release as developers have had time to master Pro while figuring out Scorpio. At this point sony could be ready to unveil a technically superior console in the PS5 and or a legit streaming service while microsoft has not made up marketshare. I like what the xbox brand is doing now but they jumped the generation to be on a different schedule from Sony. Its a bit risky if Sonys base stays loyal.

Let's assume that they are competing with each other. The Pro launches first and Scorpio launches a year later. How many Pros will Sony sell during that time period? How long will it take Scorpio to catch up to the Pros sales?

Knowing that the Pro is a PlayStation and also that PlayStation tends to sell very well. Wouldn't it be a bit difficult for Microsoft to compete with the Pro?

For this reason alone I believe that the Scorpio is actually a competitor for the PlayStation 5. The Pro is competition to the 399$ Xbox One S. Especially since they have the same price point. The new PlayStation 4 Slim competes with Microsoft's cheaper Xbox One S models.

What I'm actually happy about, is that these models from XBox and Playstation will be the final ones for the rest of this Gen's Cycle. At least, I hope. That way they can focus on pushing their current gens system further before they release a new console. So, maybe about 4-5 years more in this cycle and then a new one begins. That seems more than enough time for developers to get to know those systems much better and use them as best they can. Get some awesome games out of this

In the end both scorpion and PS4 pro will underperform! why the hell someone would use $ 399-499 on a console if they can spend less than $300 and play the same games! middle generation consoles are born as flops, what realy matters is new generation consoles that have games that can only be played in new generation consoles, to bring power to table and no "new games exclusives to the new generation" is a bad move!

Im fine with my PS4 amateur for now, was hoping Project Neo would have a 60fps mode for games, but there's nothing clear on that yet. Dont have HDR TV so I cant really enjoy the full benefits of Ps4 Pro for now

Obvious business decision, make it support 4k scaling for new tv's and make vr better. Also they did that with pretty good price too. Its not the next gen, its just an upgrade. nothing more, nothing less.

Scorpio does not sand a chance though. By then there will perhaps be at least 65 million PS4's and perhaps 7-9 million of them Pro.

Devs will still heavily favor the PS4 because of sales. PS4 pro dev will hit their stride by then while the Scorpio is just starting so any difference will be negligible

The other thing to consider is the difference between X1s and Scorpio. X1s will be abandoned and many will jump to Scorpio unlike the PS4 and PS4 Pro.

I think that this is an effort to get off the same release schedule as Microsoft, if Sony has such a huge install base, with most subscribing to PS+, building libraries, digital purchases, history, friends lists etc. and they can get those 40 million people onto a different purchase timeline than MS; the vast majority of them will continue to purchase only Playstation. I know there are those of you out there who buy all the consoles, you're not the majority, may be quite vocal but we're all enthusiasts on here so hardly representative.

There is momentum with the PS4, the PS4 Pro will satisfy those players who needed that extra mile / itch scratched and tide them over until the PS5 at which point they'll again buy it while the rest of us jump from PS4 to 5. Few are going to jump ship because the Scorpio has 1-2 more TF on it's GPU.

I got to admit N4G can be a bit annoying at times but some of the comments here is comedy gold.

On one hand you have people using 4K blu-ray drive and 6tflops like it's some sort of war hammer. On the other you have others just dismissing the scorpio before we even know anything about it.

I have my PS4 Pro pre-ordered from Amazon. I will most likely get about £150 for my original PS4. Meaning it will only cost me £200 for the PS4 Pro and enable me to play future games with better graphics/resolution/FPS.

I am also sitting here with a PC that is more powerful than the Xbox Scorpio which does not launch for about 12+ months. It also only cost me about £650 which is probably (key word probably) only £150-£200 more than the scorpio. Can't wait to play Forza Horizon 3 in 4K/60FPS.

It's too weak to compete with scorpio. Major let down by Sony.
