Modifications for games are a relatively new feature on consoles, but they're not as liberating as columnist Jake Magee hoped they would be.

Was quite disappointed that a basic mod for Fallout 4 disabled achievements on xb1, it wasn't a cheat in any way as all it did was improve the layout of the dialogue text. There are lots pf modes like this, they dont make the game any easier, all they do is improve things like UI and inventory management etc, don't see why people should be penalised for using them.

Honestly, if the mod let's you cheat in some way then I say no achievements. If it changes the dialog text, adds grass, or something else purely cosmetic, I say leave achievements enabled. Honestly, it shouldn't be that hard for the mods to get certified for achievements as well during the review process.

The problem is the developer cannot pre check every single mod for a game to see what it does. They have to assume it could make certain achievements easier to obtain. This is exactly the reason why Sony turned down mods for Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition. They have no control over what mods are put up and they cannot check every mod and seperately set them to block or not block achievements.

Just make a "Activate Achievements" mod. Cities Skylines has it and it works exactly as it should.

As long as they are not mods to circumvent doing what is needed for an achievement I don't see why they should be disabled.

Meh achievements lost their appeal almost 10 years ago. I like the challenges but they need to provide some actual rewards for achievement points, like spending them on virtual items.

They need to look at Morrowind and see what the progression should have been from there instead of the regression we got with the next 2 games. They weren’t horrible games but they could have been so much more.

Fallout 4 just felt too streamlined and accessible to me, the perk system was not as fun as it was in Fallout 3, not saying Fallout 3 didn't have issues but 4 just felt like a complete step back.

mastershredder226d ago

So the part where you just sold the same games for the last 10 years while you focused on 76 and merch, was not a reset from the "creative" aspect eh? How very Todd of you.

I bought Fallout 4 (I loved Fallout 3) at launch and I couldn't bring myself to finish it or even get close to finishing it. It was soooo damned boring and bland. I played on a very hard difficulty and I had hundreds of stimpaks. One of the only games I've played for a while and not ended up finishing it. I hated it. Just flat out hated it.
