BF1 open beta to confirm whether DICE are "doing things right"

Design Director Lars Gustavsson is eager to let people experience the game from August 31.

"First and foremost on August 31 the open beta will be open for everyone which means on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4", he said. "For us as a team a big part of [it is that] it's a final confirmation of 'are we doing things right?' As always we work super hard internally to try it out on people first within the team, within the studio, within EA, we bring in external audiences silently to validate that we're on the right track and the concept is right".

I call bullshit. If they were doing things wrong, what could they do in less than 2 months before release? Also, why do they need to know if they're doing things wrong? This isn't their first rodeo. With all the talk of things they do for testing there shouldn't be any bugs, yet we know how that goes. Anyway, I'm passing. Even IF the game is good, I just can't give it the time of day. It probably sounds stupid to many, but I'm mad that they named it Battlefield 1. I'm pretty sure there already was one of those. I'm so SICK of companies trying to rename and/or reboot things like the originals didn't exist. Stop trying to erase history! So I'll just save them the trouble and forget about this game before it releases.

No there nevwr was a BF titled BF1...it was called Bf1942

skulz73565d ago

Jesus dude calm down its not a reboot, there never was a Battlefield 1, and it's a clever name seeing as it's chronologically first and takes place in world war ONE. Do some research before commenting

CorndogBurglar3565d ago (Edited 3565d ago )

Stick to music, guy. Game history doesn't seem to be your thing.

There was never a game. Called Battlefield 1, or even simply Battlefield. The original was BF 1942. Then Vietnam. Then BF2 and so on.

Also, BF 1 is just the name because its World War 1.

bmf73643565d ago

It's a matter of implementing balance and any kind of last-minute bugs that can be fixed within that 2-months time. With BF3 and BF4 they did open betas mere WEEKS before the game's launch.

T2X3565d ago

I don't get your venom. Hey guess what? It's a game. Games are to have a bit of enjoyment. BTW, there are some things they can alter either with a patch(s) or additions somewhere down the road. Know what I'm sick of? Some foolish people who act as though Their opinion is the most important thing anyone will hear spewed forth today. About a game no less. Who cares if you like it or not?. It's not even out yet. Nobody cares if you don't like the name either, or can't "Give it the time of day"? It will end up being successful despite you not liking it. Here is the point, Don't buy things you don't want and also, why bother posting about something you hate that isn't even here yet?

Muzikguy3564d ago

Either way I think I'm allowed to not like something. It doesn't matter if people agree with me or not. I'm sure it will be successful. These games usually are. It being a success though doesn't mean I have to like it. You ask me why bother posting. Well, it's a forum and that's what people do here. Thanks for your concern though

Muzikguy3565d ago

Ok so maybe some of the ideals I've got are lacking some info. I'm still passing for many reasons. We're there horses in World War 1? Why not just call it Battlefield WW1 instead of using just the number? Are we all thinking that they're not going to release a game called BF2 in the future? Companies do this quite often. Yes I realize it's not a reboot, I was only saying that companies do this stuff. Maybe I shouldn't have said that but oh well.

Also, I still don't thing less than 2 months is enough time to fix everything they may find wrong with the game. "If they're doing things right" should've been wondered long ago. They're kind of stuck now with what they have unless there's a delay.

Season pass bullshit is what ruins games

jmac533565d ago

Don't ever buy a season pass from EA. They give season passes a bad name.

Muzikguy3565d ago

I don't like season passes in games like this either. I loved playing Battlefield 4, along with many other fps games, but then comes the dlc and the base gets split. They really should release map packs to everyone for free. People will continue to pay though so it won't happen

DeeBeers3565d ago

ohhhhhhh baby. so excited.

DeadlyOreo3565d ago

Definitely passing on this one. BF4 was pretty decent, but until I see another Bad Company game I think I'll pass on BF. Too many decent FPS games coming this holiday.

WellyUK3565d ago

Bad company is so overrated the BF games before BC are all better...

detroitmademe3565d ago (Edited 3565d ago )

@DeadlyOreo so your gonna pass on battlefield 1 because there are other "decent " fps out there? Hmmm🤔, your gonna pass on a great shooter with the most variety of any competitive shooter gameplay wise this year and settle for a decent shooter? You and the first guy to comment on this article use great logic. Your parents must be proud

SoulMikeY3565d ago (Edited 3565d ago )

Yeah... none better than this though...

BF4 was good, BFH sucked, this already looks better than the last three or four games.

T2X3565d ago

At least you give a valid reason for not wanting the game, Muzikguy is shooting salt all over his keyboard. like a salt truck on a snowy winter highway! LOL!

BattleAxe3565d ago (Edited 3565d ago )

I was going to buy this game on day one when I watched gameplay footage for the first time, but they want way too much money for this game. The Ultimate Edition, which comes with the Premium Pass, costs $165.00 in Canada. I've never seen a game that costs that much.

It will be interesting to see what gamers do this holiday season. You have at least 4 big games, all releasing within a short period of time from one another (Gears of War 4, Titanfall 2, Infinite Warfare and Battlefield 1). I'm not all that interested in Call of Duty this time around, Battlefield 1 costs too much to justify the purchase, and I'm still not sure what I think of Titanfall 2. I will definitely be buying Gears 4 Ultimate Edition though, since it's $100.00 and will be coming with the seasons pass.

It's pretty insane, to think that if you wanted to buy all four of these games, with their respective seasons passes, you'd be looking at spending roughly $500.00 in Canada. I think that there's going to be a time coming soon, when these game franchises will not be selling the kinds of numbers that they do today with the prices going up as much as they have been over the last 5 years. The average parent, college student and young adult in the workforce can't afford to keep up with buying numerous games at these prices. They'll end up picking just one of these games, and just keep playing some of their older games.
