Killzone 2 to feature four-player co-op campaign?

A recent hands on preview posted by PlayStation World UK editor Ian Dean has hinted that Guerilla Games' upcoming shooter Killzone 2 will feature four-player campaign co-op.

The company has already confirmed that a post-launch patch will add co-op play to Killzone 2, though it was unclear as to how many players would be supported and whether it would be offline or online only.

"And then there's the four-player co-op campaign to look forward to. Now that really could be something special," wrote Dean.

Genki6475d ago

How the hell is a QUESTION that branches off of a simple quote from another media outlet constitute NEWS? How about a thought-provoking analysis? Word from the devs? This crap shouldn't even be on their own site.

Talk about being desperate for hits...the good folks at PSU really need to get their act together and do some real journalism. Scouring the net for tidbits and maybe's is unsat.

Jpinter6475d ago (Edited 6475d ago )

The story is listed as a rumor, even though Gamesradar states it as fact in their hands-on preview. Gamesradar probably received information from Sony during their hands-on, which is why it's in their preview. PSU just picked up on it and linked to their preview stating that since the information is not backed by a quote from someone at Sony or Guerilla, people should take it as rumor.

Guerilla Games have already confirmed that Co-op will be added to Killzone 2, so the only thing being debated here is the number of players supported.

What's wrong with that?

anh_duong6475d ago

it won't be offline so the photo is misleading.

Genki6475d ago

you're missing the point. Debate all you want, that's fine and dandy, but you know good and well that this is not what's happening here. You simply quoted GamesRadar and linked to their site, that's hardly a debate. Furthermore, if your intention was to spark a debate, that's what a FORUM is for, you don't do hat with news, especially being a journalist yourself.

Another thing is that you don't expound upon what Gamesradar said in any way, shape, or form, so how can you consider this news? This shouldn't even BE an entry on your site, as it has no substance whatsoever. Tell me what I can get out of this 5 sentence news post that I couldn't find anywhere else or have gathered for myself. See my point? Journalism is useless unless it provides the reader something that they can't easily find on their own or that's readily accessible elsewhere, that's what I'm trying to get through to you.

Use your connections next time, hound a Sony rep, GET INFO, add in your own thoughts, assumptions, possibilities, gather up potential rumors that may be related, SOMETHING other than "We saw this on this site, what do you think guys?"

beavis4play6475d ago

never heard you complain like this before....so what's your problem with psu?

King_many_layers6475d ago

Co-op is pretty much confirmed, all they need to do is let us know wether it's splitscreen or coming with the game.

why do people keep posting the same things, but from different websites, days apart.

Kleptic6475d ago

this whole 'patch in' thing has me lost...either do it or don't...there is no reason that it couldn't be there for shipping...unless they really are that pressed for time...

rumors are that the single player campaign was 'triggered' from the ground up with co-op in mind...making it relatively simple to get co-op running, at least online (the amount of tech this game is pushing makes split screen pretty unlikely)...but who knows...the patch in thing is really vague...and that will suck if that is some sort of pay for DLC...I don't really care either way, not a huge co-op fan...but I can already hear the media having a field day with it...the whole thing sounds like Sony and GG just giving out free weapons, and insisting on pointing said weapons back at them...

King_many_layers6475d ago

I'm guessing that it's going to be in it, simply because I don't see how they can just spend 6 monthsish, just polishing over and over.

I don't see it being downloadable after as a bad thing, I'm guessing they're saying that simply because they want to make sure that it's bug free and they think it might take longer than expected.

Bigbangbing6475d ago (Edited 6475d ago )

WTF !

Ian Dean was Assuming or Hoping To Have a four-player co-op campaign , HE was not confirming FOLKS

Jpinter6475d ago

Then why didn't he say "hoping"...the way the preview is worded is that there will be four-player co-op. Or he should have just wrote "co-op" as co-op has been confirmed by Guerilla...just not the number of supported players.

Bigbangbing6475d ago (Edited 6475d ago )

i know , the Co-op has been Confirmed ...

but the News is all ABOUT the four-player !!!

"four-player co-op campaign to look forward to"

And i Don't Remember Guerilla Confirming that

So , Basically He was Assuming or Hoping .

Jpinter6475d ago

Well but why would he assume it be 4 player and not 2? Or 8 player co-op like Resistance 2?

Bigbangbing6475d ago (Edited 6475d ago )

Well...

He was Hoping for 4 because ...

Every Video of Killzone 2 , You can see 2 Guys walking together , Most of the Time

So , i can tell FROM the Videos , it will be a 2 Player Co-op

So , that why he was Hoping for 4 Player , not just 2

8 player co-op , i Don't Think its Possible on KZ2 ... Unless they Downgraded the Graphics ...

and the Co-op in Resistance 2 , is another Mode , not the Story Mode .

Sucks that Killzone 2, for all its extra development time, will still be lacking in
Co-op
Split-screen
Multiplayer maps
Length of the main campaign
Vehicles for MP

So it might look awesome and play awesome, but it will be severely lacking in features.

Fishy Fingers6475d ago (Edited 6475d ago )

co-op ~ Patched later
Split-screen ~ With those visuals? Are you insane?
Multiplayer maps ~ Like all FPS games, more will be added
Campaign ~ You have zero knowledge of it's length
Vehicles ~ KZ has vehicles so...? Not all have been shown.

All that aside, all the development time you mention went into creating a first party engine Sony can use time and time again which puts the majority of current engines (UE3 for example) to shame.

VF34EJ256475d ago

COD4 didn't have any of those. Especially the length of the campaign. That didn't stop it from being one of the most addictive shooters ever created next to Counter Strike.

King_many_layers6475d ago

you forgot to mention that whereas it might be lacking in maps those maps wont be a problem with the ability to blend the match types together. That's where the replay value is going to come from I'm imagining.

it's not like you go on a map then stop after one round and wait a while then change to another type.

The pace can suddenly change completely in a map and therefore in the maps you have plenty of ways to change the way it plays out and how the maps used.

That's where I see the online multiplayer shining.

Also, with the amount of data it's taking for the levels in the game ( 2gb as originally stated ) I'm sure that they will have plenty of room for a relatively long campaign.

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

Hugely disappointingly, it seems that Guerrilla Games, developers of the Killzone and Horizon series, may be done with Killzone for good.

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX583d ago (Edited 583d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne583d ago (Edited 583d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro583d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken582d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown583d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72583d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken582d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya582d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast583d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood583d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro812d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv72812d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_812d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga812d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos811d ago (Edited 811d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt23811d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball2000812d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin812d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole812d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix812d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel1989812d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor812d ago (Edited 812d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

812d ago
Michiel1989812d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor1116d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar1116d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg1115d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz1491115d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance11381116d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim1116d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC1116d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance11381116d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle1116d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix761116d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware7301116d ago (Edited 1116d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger1115d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca1116d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy1116d ago (Edited 1116d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

lukasmain1116d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright1116d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.
