No Man’s Sky releases tomorrow, August 9th, on the Playstation 4; its PC version releases thr ee days later on the 12th. For several months I have debated whether or not to stamp the word "premortem" in front of this game, and with the launch blazingly imminent now, that ambivalence persists even as I write this.

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Spiders: "We're going to cut straight to the chase so you're not left wondering: After a long period without clear answers, we have received confirmation that Spiders is being liquidated.
What does it mean? This means the company as a whole no longer exists. We'll cease our functions immediately. The planned DLC will release via Nacon, and then-- well, that's it.
We're sorry that it's come to this and would like to thank each and every one of you for your support over the years.
If you have any questions or run into issues with your games, please contact Nacon directly as we'll no longer be able to reply."

Today, Koei Tecmo announced its financial results for the full fiscal year 2025, related to the period between April 2025 and March 2026.
I wasn't sure where this was going, but I get it now. IMO, Hello Games has prioritized the importance of freedom of choice and of the pillars of the game. That's it. Providing the center, imo, is the "dangling carrot" for those that MUST have a reason to explore. Plus, as a functional representation of a universe which parallels ours, I am assuming that it started fundamentally like ours. Meaning it started from a massively dense point and, after an explosion, expanded outward from said point. That would make it somewhat circular...which does indeed have a center. With the amount of planets being astronomical in every way possible, Hello Games was fully aware that discovering them all would not be likely. So, they provided and incentive to move from planet to planet. One could easily spend days on a single planet discovering every possible detail. But, the mysteries of he center will always be calling.
In the end, this game is about the journey. It's about unearthing the secrets of what happened in this universe and how that relates to the secrets held in the center. It's about discovering strange, unique, even funny things along the way and sharing them. The stories of people's first planet is so varied and unique it's a wonder how they were able to pull it all off. It might fall victim to the hype of expectations. But Hello Games has spent so much time trying to balance those expectations with what the game truly is, that it ends up sounding silly to expect anything more. It won't please everybody. But, it will hit the sweet spot for those that have a thing for exploration and mystery. Some people dream of what's out there..others couldn't care any less.
