Interesting... So It does have better performance than the XB1. Not a lot but it does.

smart of MS not to brag and market some of the performance gains...

letting consumers discover these performance gains on their own was a smart choice...

starrman19853454d ago

If they announced it earlier there would have been tons of articles about how they are screwing over the original console owners, sales might have taken a hit etc. If they announced it after there would be tons of articles about how they are screwing over the original console owners..

They'll probably say it's contributing to the 4K output, HDR processing options etc, personally as an original owner of the Xbox One I don't give a damn! I am glad it's getting quite high pre-orders by the sounds of it!

thekhurg3454d ago

They did announce it at E3. Not sure what rock people were living under.

starrman19853454d ago

I think he is referring to the power increase, they ended up denying it had any improvement over the original one.

nix3454d ago

no smart company would brag about the extra performance. that will be termed as "screwing the original owners".

Kingthrash3603454d ago (Edited 3454d ago )

Ueah, they lie alot for the sake of sales.
I don't see what harm it would have been to just say it's 8 percent more powerful. ..sounds miner enough not to lose sales and be honest at the same time. But hey what works for them works.
I think it's funny how the article says "significant power efficiency over the older model" I hate that kind of deceitful word play. The scorpio is significant not the s

TheCommentator3454d ago

They did announce it at E3 and they did say the power was used for the new capabilities of the One S.

phil knows how easy it is for his words to get twisted so he simply said if you already have an xbox don't upgrade to an xbox one s thinking the games will look loads better. he was being extremely honest and transparent. the small boost is mostly due to HDR and just upgraded parts which happens through most generations

rainslacker3454d ago (Edited 3454d ago )

I think it's good they didn't. While it'll be beneficial for some games, it won't be for all, and if they announced a performance increase, people would assume that all games would have it, the fan boys would have their "we win" attitude, and ultimately, it could come in somewhat disappointing to those hoping to get more performance out of the new model.

Nice that EG actually took the time to make it clear that it wasn't for all games.

In either case, the base X1 is likely to remain the spec to build for for compliance reasons. As far as I can tell, there is nothing which states you can have a separate X1S build, and I don't see any reason to based on a 8% GPU gain.

UltraNova3453d ago

If MS is smart and cares about the 20+ million OG xb1 owners like they say they do then they shoukd mandated that 7% worth of extra power to be used only for 4K or HDR content, not on general game performance.

rainslacker3453d ago

They'll mandate that it has to run on the stock Xbox. If a game can use the extra power in the X1S, then that's fine, but I don't think most games are going to be designed to take advantage of what would be a fairly marginal gain.

lastking953454d ago

That's cool, better than nothing i suppose.

Unspoken3454d ago (Edited 3454d ago )

Very cool. It was supposed to be the same performance.

Darkwatchman3454d ago

Wish they would have tested AC Unity

I_am_Batman3454d ago

AC Unity's performance was mainly bottlenecked by the CPU so I doubt that it'll benefit much from the GPU overclock.

Darkwatchman3454d ago

But like the video said, they don't know the CPU clock speed on it so it could help a tiny bit or not help at all. That came is very close to being a 30 fps game so even just a boost of 1-2 frames on average would help that game immensely

OpenGL3454d ago

I'd like to see them test Doom and Halo 5 as both utilized dynamic resolution.

EveryPlatformGamer3453d ago

Yes and titanfall which had lots of screen tearing.

Best Adventure Game of 2025

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "While not carrying the same heft it enjoyed long ago, last year was one of the adventure genre's most commercially-successful years in this century. A Telltale-esque adventure eclipsing 3 million sales in three months would be the talk of the town were it not for another adventure game hurdling over 10 million sales in two. Though not all finalists reached those heights, each did share a greater amount of spotlight compared to similar titles within their respective sub-genres.

Past any sales thresholds and popularity contests, 2025 also deserves credit for its creativity; the last time our entire shortlist consisted exclusively of new IPs was for Best Adventure Game of 2020. An impressive year for the genre, with even greater potential ahead."
