Dual-Core Versus Quad-Core - Part 2

This is a comparison that will probably get your emotions running high, as it represents a shootout between apples and oranges. But it is also a comparison that is extremely relevant, as it reflects the current market and answers very important questions about the current offerings from AMD amd and Intel. Tom's Hardware decided to put AMD's most efficient quad quad core processor up against one of the fastest Intel intel dual core CPUs: it's the AMD Phenom X4 9350e 2.0 GHz against Intel's Core 2 core 2 Duo E8500 at 3.16 GHz.

Was no surpise to me the C2D walked away victorious because of higher clock speed and the fact that apps haven't really been coded to take advantage of quad cores yet

This christmas I'm building a new computer will probably go w/ a Quadcore (Intel) since in my eyes Quadcores will last "longer" then Dualcores in regards to me not having to swap out the CPU anytime soon once it's all built and ready to go

You should look at the Intel Q6600. Quad Core at 2.4Ghz Stock. Overclockers DREAM. Hits 3.0Ghz on air EASY. People have even gotten it to 4Ghz with water cooling! And its $180 on newegg. Cheap! I can't wait to get mine!

Lol. I already have a Q6600 and I was thinking of changing it to an Intel C2D Xtreme and thx to you I won't be doing that, I'll just pay in a shop to overclock my Q6600 and get a GTX 280 to add to my 8800 GTS 612MB. thx

unfortunetly i tend to go for amd as there more effeciant

but thats just me

DudePV6514d ago

Does this mean it's better to buy a dual core than a quadcore or intel is better than AMD? Or maybe it's better to buy CPU with a higher clock speed than CPU with more core? Cus i don't realy understant how you can compare two almost completly different objet. In the end, i realy just don't know what it mean to have a any one of them.

no one will be able to tell you unless we know what you will be wanting to use it for =p

i am running dual core (C2D E4400) and is amazing even though it is infact one of the cheapest C2D and to the people who know a lot about the different versions i am not including the Pentium dual cores aka E2180 etc.

for example if you was looking for running a server then a quad core would be a much better option as you will be supporting a lot more applications which can be shared between the processor cores, for me i use my PC mainly for gaming and a quad core wouldnt help me a lot because (correct me if i am wrong) no games have been designed for computers using more then dual core.

fezthabest6514d ago

correct me if im wrong also but isn't crysis coded for multiple cores??

Infernus6514d ago

Okay, I asked myself that question about half a year ago, designing my new PC. Are games built for quads? Well to be perfectly honest I can name 3 off the top of my head right now: Crysis, Supreme Commander and Universe at War: Earth Assault.

More games will be made compatible with Quads as time progresses. If you're buying a brand new PC now, get a quadcore (Intel's perform faster in the majority of tests). If you currently have a Dualcore then no worries really, DC systems are fine for the moment it's just a brand new PC should be futureproofed with a quad to avoid early upgrade.

The thing about this comparison is that if it was the other way round Intel's Quad would blow AMD's duals to bits. I have a Q6600 and I have all 3 of the games I mentioned, Supreme commander being the most processor intensive. A friend of mine has a dual core system and SupCom definitely runs smoother on a Quad-based PC, no doubt about it.

Looking to the future, get a Quad. Currently have a Dual, no need to worry until the dawn of 2010.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing67d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9267d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit67d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing67d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9267d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
