Not surprised, I've learned that if a game is approaching it's one year anniversary and it suddenly it goes on sale, chances are they're trying get rid of the regular versions because a 'Game of The Year Edition' is coming out soon.

Double_O_Revan3577d ago

'Definitive' huh, does this mean it comes with Chapter 3?

Jon_Targaryen3577d ago (Edited 3577d ago )

Wishful thinking... Would probably be full of fetch quests, kill general x, or extract prisoner missions again. With 5 to 20 seconds of cut scenes thrown in here and there for fans as if to say "want more? Go F yourself!".

Name Last Name3577d ago

Its probably just Ground Zeroes added to it.

Mr Marvel3577d ago (Edited 3577d ago )

MGSV: TPP is still my favourite game this generation... and I hadn't been a fan of the series since MGS2 on PS2.

I love this game!

Jon_Targaryen3577d ago (Edited 3577d ago )

Your joking right??? This is the most watered down MGS game in the entire series! MGS 4... Scratch that, MGS 3 runs circles around this game and its more than a decade old!!!

MGS 5 ruined MGS for me. I cant believe they went the casual route and catered to non fans. I WAITED 5 YEARS FOR THIS GAME, AND IT WASNT EVEN MADE FOR MY DEMOGRAPHIC!!!

Kaneki-Ken3577d ago

They Played Us Like A Damn Fiddle!

KyRo3577d ago (Edited 3577d ago )

Totally agree with you Jon. Ive played every major mgs game apart from acid and mgs5 isn't mgs at all. It was easily my least favorite mgs ever and the only one I've never finished. Open world games are ruining to many good games lately

Omar913577d ago

Im right there wth you man 😔

TheTony3163577d ago (Edited 3577d ago )

TPP didn't even feel like an MGS game. Everything that made this series great was missing. The story was lackluster, no memorable bosses, no cutscenes and even the soundtrack was a disappointment.

xtheblackparade3577d ago

Most true mate, the same is happening with FFXV. Waited for years and then it turns out to be an action "rpg"....sux...

Good-Smurf3577d ago (Edited 3577d ago )

They even fucked up the weapon's selection,it's seriously lacking compared to Peace Walker,a tiny PSP game FFS!
I just can't seemed to finished that game it's so repetitive and open world proved to be really barren and takes forever to get to the mission area and after I done that 150th time I just quit playing it.
I played almost every game in the series and this game is easily the weakest game in the series,I never get tired of playing through the MGS2,MGS3 but can't even finish MGSV once, what does that tell you?

UltraNova3577d ago

Wow hold your dragons Jon! Maybe a trip down to the Wall will help chill your nerves?

Remember winter is coming so take it easy...

OT

Havent played MGS5 yet because I held off in hope they release the missing part so after this theres no hope really so... and you guys arent helping me buy it either...

That said, I will get the 'definitive' edition cause I'm an avid MGS fan and its the last Kojima MGS so I need to play it and get it over with no matter how bad it is.

Ps: jon i was messing with you..

_-EDMIX-_3577d ago

Subjective.

I'm not sure why many take offense to people saying Metal Gear Solid 5 is one of their favorite titles in this series as a person that has played the series since the beginning in my personal opinion it is the best metal gear solid they've ever created.

I personally loved the story in Metal Gear Solid 3 more than any of the other Metal Gear solid's but the actual gameplay of Metal Gear Solid 5 trumps every Metal Gear Solid if they've ever made.

Metal Gear Solid 4 doesn't come near Metal Gear Solid 5 in my opinion.

I believe for is the worst of the series based on you've barely play against human NPC most of the game is fighting robots and other weird creatures lol I love the first two acts of the game because it allows me to play Solid Snake as I know him being able to utilize all the techniques whereas in the later acts you're basically fighting robots and which you cannot use those techniques at some point the game literally stops being a stealth game and you're just fighting a bunch of robots head on.

Metal Gear Solid 5 in the purest absolute form to exploit every possible thing you can do with big boss for the duration of the entire game.

From the day and night cycle to allowing you to kidnap guards to collect information, to the randomized weather system to being able to call in a helicopter to evacuate etc

_-EDMIX-_3577d ago (Edited 3577d ago )

This is not in all the metal gear solid titles in fact only some of those features are in some of the Metal Gear Solid titles at one point in time were Metal Gear Solid 5 is essentially letting you play the character to its fullest potential for the longest duration out of any Metal Gear Solid that has ever been produced period!

You had segments and Metal Gear Solid series that were stealth and then you have Metal Gear Solid 5 that is completely Stealth at its finest and actually focusing on the core thing that is the series in regards to Stealth gameplay.

Yes Metal Gear Solid 5 story is not all that good but I believe Kojima was correct to focus more so on the game play since the actual story of Metal Gear Solid 5 is sort of a given you already know what happens to who because it is the actual origin story of the series you clearly know the inevitable outcome of the characters.

That for the most part was irrelevant to me. Even then I still liked the story and absolutely loved the game play by default for me Metal Gear Solid 5 is the greatest Metal Gear Solid in regards to gameplay.

By no means is Metal Gear Solid 5 "casual", it's easily one of the most difficult Metal Gear Solids they've ever made. If anything the previous Metal Gear Solid what the linear structure in only segments of small portions of stealth would be considered casual.

Do you not remember the sneaking mission in Metal Gear Solid 4 in France? Do you honestly believe that that's more difficult compared to any of the missions in Metal Gear Solid 5 when you essentially have one chance to rescue someone?

Metal Gear Solid 5 basically focused on the main aspects of the series that is stealth and observing the NPC to find ways around or to the objective.

I don't care that much for Metal Gear Solid 4, But I'm not gonna go around calling it casual or absolutely extremely exaggerating the game as it's seriously just sounds like Fanboy rage exaggeration syndrome.

Metal Gear Solid 5 catered to the fans of the series that loved the difficulty of the stealth from point A to point B. I've played every single Metal Gear Solid game please stop trying to make it sound as if there is a true fan or a fake fan because I absolutely love Metal Gear Solid 5 and it's my personal Game of the Year from last year.

You do not speak for All Metal Gear Solid fans as neither do I....

Dear God stop trying to define a metal gear solid fan based on your own personal feelings about the game...

_-EDMIX-_3577d ago (Edited 3577d ago )

@tony-"Everything that made this series great was missing"

The Stealth gameplay was gone? Metal Gear at its absolute core is a stealth game and I'm sorry but unless you're going to define the series based on cutscenes , I don't think you know what you're talking about.

"no cutscenes"

I'm seriously not sure what you're talking about Metal Gear Solid 5 actually has lots of cutscenes.....

All you have to do is go online and watch the recorded cut scenes of the actual game and you'll see they actually measure up the same amount of time as the previous Metal Gear Solid games .

you guys seriously exaggerate to a ridiculously high degree....

edit- just to show on an objective level that many, many are exaggerating this game's cut scenes, lets take a look at the length of the complete cutscenes of all the MGS series. I tried to find many with all cutscene and codec info as that is largely part of the MGS mythos.

All MGS games clock in at around 5 or more hours of cutscenes, only MGS4 goes a bit overboard with around 8 hours of cutscenes (based on what I've been able to find from users who have uploaded it) by no means is MGS4 THE NORM of the amount of cutscenes that should be in a MGS or really any game. I like MGS4, but didn't realize how much of my 25 hour playthrough the first time was just watching the game. I'm fine with the MGSV ratio, as MGS3 is my favorite and it has around the same number of hours of cutscenes....

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

I'd rather have MG1 remake or MGSVI if done by Kojima in some parallel universe, have a 5 to 6 hour cutscene and 60 hours gameplay, then 8 hours cutscene, 17 hours gameplay ( and I feel I took my time with MGS4, my friends beat that game faster then I did the first time around)

Take note, I'm not giving an opinion on the story or anything like that, merely pointing out that the game for a fact has around the same number of hours of cutscenes as the previous titles.

Trez12343577d ago

Not my favourite mgs but definitely one of my favourite games this gen.

theshredded3577d ago (Edited 3577d ago )

Honestly MGS4 isn't that likeable if you haven't played MGS1. It happened to me and a lot others that's why mgs4 lovers get baffled when it's not on a top 20 ps3 games and MGSV'S gameplay is light years better anyway ...but MGS3 though now that was the sh*t!!

franwex3577d ago

"I WAITED 5 YEARS FOR THIS GAME, AND IT WASNT EVEN MADE FOR MY DEMOGRAPHIC!!!"

Wow, talk about privilege fanboy. The game was not for YOU only. Get over it. Just GET OVER IT. Seriously do.
I've owned every single MGS game since PS1 and enjoyed MGSV.

NapalmSanctuary3577d ago

I wouldn't say it was casual. It definitely went off the map with the open world busy work and the story. GZs was awesome. I can sympathize though. What this industry has been doing to truly classic franchises for years is heart breaking. Ace Combat: Assault Horizon & Twisted Metal comes to mind.

bloop3576d ago

I agree with you to an extent EDMIX. After the first couple of hours after getting loose in Afghanistan I honestly thought it was going to be one of the best games of all time. But for me, it got old, very quickly after that. They made this amazing playground for you with all these great toys and gadgets to play with but it's like the developers didn't know what to do with them. You just end up extracting everything and anyone in the game and that's all you do!! I know you can argue that it's a stupid way to play, but the problem is the game encourages you so much to play that way, to build up your base to unlock more toys. So when you scout an area and see a high ranked officer, you're not just going to put a bullet between his eyes. You're just going to go out of your way to extract him alive!! The biggest problem with the game was definitely mission variety though. Every mission was practically the same. After doing about 20 side missions I completely lost interest in doing any more. And the main missions were more or less all the same too.

As for MGS4, I'm in the minority with you. It had some epic moments but it's probably my least favourite in the solid series as an overall game.

Same. MGS TPP is still the highest rated current gen game on metacritic excluding those other re-releases which tells you how much of a technical masterpiece the game is...It's quite sad some people don't appreciate the game enough though

Nathan_Hale533577d ago

I am a huge fan of all the MG games, and I enjoy TPP, but MGS 3 and 4 are the best to me. But V killed the story with such a bad ending, that spat in my face, although gameplay is great, but the story was difficult staying interested in.

NapalmSanctuary3577d ago

It has some phenomenal gameplay, best I've seen in a stealth game, it just gets dragged down by the typical open world busy work shtick. Had it been like 10-20 areas like GZs, it would have been the best stealth game ever. One thing I gotta say about GZs vs TPP is that it was a lot more fun having to get the extraction targets to the pick up zones as opposed to just using the Fulton on them. You should play MGS3 & the original MG2 if you haven't. Next to MGS (minus that BS fistfight & jeep chase) they were they best games in the series.

bradleejones3576d ago

@Jon You need to finish them. Especially 2, 3, 4. Endings are all bad ass. My opinion isn't the common one but I'd have to say 4 has the best ending. Then 2....

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - Brutal Backlog

Over ten years after its release, does Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain still impress? Jump Dash Roll returns to Snake's world for this Brutal Backlog.

I don’t think I’ve ever quite experienced an unfinished game that was slapped together with duct tape and construction paper to be sold as a finished product, basically making you replay the same missions and include a story that clearly was missing so much of the plot, like I did with this game.

I’m actually shocked that it doesn’t get calls out for this more.

franwex77d ago

It did. But the gameplay loop is still pretty good.

CoPilot: Gaming Chat is an amazing revelation - A true gamer friend at your side

CG writes: In this video, we take Microsoft's Copilot for a spin and talk about gaming and AI influences, and the implications of that. We talked about a possible Metal Gear Solid V remaster, Deus Ex remaster, Hitman Blood-Money mission, and more. Imagine trying to talk gaming with non-gaming friends in real-life and after 5 seconds, they switch off and possibly yawn. Well, CoPilot isn't like that, instead it's like talking to a like-minded gaming fan who is totally on your level. The public version of CoPilot released in Feb 2023 and already it's become almost indistinguishable from a real person.

Metal Gear Solid 5, Nearly After A Decade, Is Still A Timeless Classic

The Metal Gear series, led by Kojima, pioneered the stealth genre, creating a masterclass in storytelling and gameplay.

SimpleSlave708d ago (Edited 708d ago )

No. But MGS5: Ground Zeroes might actually be one of the greatest Game Demo ever, if not the best.

xHeavYx708d ago

I know a lot of people didn't, but I actually liked that story twist at the end. The game was fun and all, but I wouldn't call it a timeless classic.

Cacabunga707d ago

Metal Gear legend stopped with number 4.
MGS5 needed a year or 2 more of development to be maybe among the classics.. it was clearly rushed, especially at the end. The story teaches us absolutely nothing new.

just_looken708d ago

A demo is free that was a $40 cry for help as later we would know konami did not want to fun hideo and his team anymore that is why we got the unfinished phantom pain.

-Foxtrot708d ago (Edited 708d ago )

Meh

Great stealth gameplay but the game was just average.

Bland open world that felt lifeless, the story felt shoehorned in, unfinished story etc. The whole thing was just average to me compared to the other main titled games.

I would have rather preferred it if they kept Ground Zeroes for the main game as the opening and the rest of the game turns into a Metal Gear 1 & 2 remake to bring things full circle.

just_looken708d ago

If you dig around they had old behind trhe scenes of phantom pain vids and books wrote around the time.

Before funding was puled the main idea was to keep peace walker coop it was in the games early builds and that end game were your building your base that was suppose to be metal gear one.

You as the fake big boss was going to make your own metal gear one map aka your base (outer heaven) then me as sold snake use the mode that is in the game invade/defeat the base even fight your current version of metal gear that was in the game but not finished.

So your idea was on the table bit got canned.

CrimsonWing69708d ago (Edited 708d ago )

Like hell it is. That was the first time I became aware of being sold an unfinished game and was blown away about blind fanboys saying it was some perfect game.

Yea, the first few chapters were great until they do that thing halfway and make you replay all the missions again. Then little things like capturing animals but only seeing a JPEG unlike 3 where everything was modeled out. Areas were massive, desolate, and boring to look at.

Game was a massive let down for me and the potential was so high for it. Honestly, this was one of the most disappointing games I ever played. What’s worse is it starts off brilliant. You literally play through until you get to the point where you could tell they just stopped developing and then quickly used glue and construction paper to “finish” it and then sold it. Quite frankly, that’s insulting to consumers and fans.

Inverno708d ago

People have selective memory. This game had huge drama attached to it, what Konami did to Kojima and this game was horrible. Now they praise Konami cause they revived Silent Hill, even though SH looks half arsed too.

CrimsonWing69708d ago

I dunno if they’re getting much praise after the Silent Hill 2 debacle. Makes me scared sh*tless for the MGS 3 Remake…

Michiel1989707d ago

I don't wanna defend konami, but Kojima had 7 years to make the game, it's not that weird for a publisher to expect a game to be finished in that amount of time.

Also no one is praising konami from what I've seen, they're just excited that a Silent Hill game is releasing

CrimsonWing69706d ago (Edited 706d ago )

@Michiel1989

You’re absolutely correct. Look, the dude is a visionary and has brought us some incredible games, but he constantly would go over budget and could never stick to a deadline. I don’t know if people remember the MGS 4 trailers but it became a joke when you’d see a release date and then they crossed it out in the next trailer to give another.

What a lot of people don’t know is there’s a certain amount of money given for development and marketing. When you go over the budget and add additional marketing over the deadline it isn’t cheap. MGS GZ and V were laughable to me for the amount of time he had to develop them and he spent even more time on the engine that wasn’t anything revolutionary to me. I mean, GZ was nothing more than a demo and they released that art like $40 I think, probably to further help fund V. He then spent money for Kiefer Sutherland who did nothing for the character, which I think Kojima just wanted because he’s a fan.

Konami just had enough and said this is the deadline and you’re done after this. It’s business, but fans took it personal. I mean look at this Overdose game he’s been doing.,, like when is that ever coming out?

Michiel1989706d ago

I kind of forgot about overdose but yeah exactly my thoughts. He has made some of the best games out there and definitely deserves time to create his new masterpiece, but it's not a bottomless well.

This is pure speculation but I imagine he got around 4 years to make the game excluding pre-production. If after those 4 years the game is nowhere near being done, the relationship will be strained between them one way or another.

about the konami being praised thing, if let's say blizzard announces world of warcraft 2 today I'll be excited as hell for the game, but that doesn't mean my opinion of blizzard changes only a tiny bit cause they're still trash.

Yui_Suzumiya706d ago

Yeah, it was the only MGS I didn't play and this is coming from someone who got back into gaming after skipping a generation due to MGS4 back in 2008. It just seems to be the complete opposite of the MGS I always knew and loved (1-4).

JEECE708d ago

Yes and no. In many ways in was a great game; there's a very strong argument that it has the best gameplay of any MGS game, and that it is one of the more interesting open world "playgrounds" we have gotten, in terms of how the world operates. But as an MGS narrative, it is pretty far down the list, for many reasons.

Storm23707d ago

I don't think there is any argument. The gameplay was incredible. But yeah...disappointed in the rest. Could have been incredible but...well...we all know what happened...

JEECE706d ago

I don't think there is much of one either but apparently some people found the world very boring compared to the more linear structures of other entries so I didn't make a definitive statement in order to acknowledge the outliers.

DarXyde707d ago

The thing about Metal Gear Solid is that the narrative is what determines which is your favorite because the gameplay had ALWAYS improved with every mainline entry. It's amazing.

If it was gameplay, we'd all say The Phantom Pain, but the story is what truly sets them apart.

For me, that's Snake Eater, which is also my favorite game of all time.

JEECE706d ago

That's my favorite too, particularly if we are talking about the subsistence version with camera control.

Fishy Fingers708d ago

For me, best gameplay, worst, everything else.

Storm23707d ago

Yeah...gameplay was so damn good.
