Red Dead Redemption is finally on Xbox One via backwards compatibility, but will you ever be able to play it on the PS4?

you do have a sizeable audience that likes to keep older titles and are big advocates of physical copies too. of course when you don't offer backwards compatability the reaction from some will likely be not a big deal but if it is avialable of course it's a nice option. some games like this one still hold up to todays market of games.

SpaceRanger3598d ago

As a counterpoint to your remark about "not offering BC": couldn't you also say that it's a big deal for some to play older games when there's almost a 10 month gap between holiday seasons where AAA exclusives are launched?

It's not to say that BC is a bad feature, I used it to re-live fallout 3 since I had some financial stuff at the time and had to sell some gaming stuff a few years back. Just consider that for some it's the only option for something different while they wait for October.

freshslicepizza3598d ago

most sales stem from third party supprt on both the ps4 and xbox one, not sure why anyone would wait 10 months to play a AAA game. sure if people just buy consoles for exclusives but software sales show otherwise. and where was there a 10 month gap on the xbox one?

madmonkey013598d ago

games like this on xbox one only serve to highlight the lack of quality titles actually available natively for xbox one

I think what's lacking is you don't play game on Xbox, I do and I'm still enjoying high-quality titles on the Xbox along with high-qulaity titles on my account from last-gen. If anything it's Sony that is lacking with so much indie third-party exclusives but no quality.

@moldy

Well said. BC is a nice feature to have and using it is so seamless. After downnoading the game it automatically syncs with your xbox 360 cloud saves and you can start playing where you left off. Mp still works and now you can record gameplay and even take snap shots. South park, Alan wake and RDR are some games I never got a chance to finish last gen but now I'm able to continue playing them. I hope they add Lost oOdyssey and Blue Dragon to the list soon. Those downlaying BC can keep doing it all they like it doesn't change the fact that its a nice feature and one xbox fans are happy to have. We get to play last gen classics without owning our last gen consoles and from here on out all xbox consoles will be forward and backward compatible.. Playing Xbx360 BC titles, Xbox One titles and future Xbox console titles. Nice.

Its been said time and time again but it hold true... bought a new console to play new games.

freshslicepizza3598d ago

then how come less than a year ago you were wishing ps2 games came to the ps4?

it's obvious you guys will downplay this feature because it's on xbox one and not the ps4. it's just sad how petty the console wars is.

zsquaresoff3598d ago

You said it.... A year ago. A lot can happen in a year... like opinions changing. Like I said... new console, new games.

You enjoy your BC games. I never said this feature was not good.

Who said you couldn't play new games too? Just because you can also play old games too doesn't suddenly make gaming on a device invalid. Who complains about playing old games? Who complains about convenience like this? Some of you act like having the ability to play more games is a bad thing. It's the weirdest thing ever.

Z5013598d ago

Complaints about backwards compatibility... Where?

DLConspiracy3598d ago

@z501

Oh I don't know...most all the weird comments pretending to make convenience a bad thing.

trooper_3598d ago

People said it wasn't a game changer- just a nice feature to have. You had people acting like BC was the second coming or something.

DLConspiracy3598d ago

@spectre

I don't think it's that amazing. it's just not as bad as some are acting. It is nice to have.

Me too, only difference is I can play games from last-gen on my current console. Does the BC feature not allow you to play current games on your current console? NO! Instead fantastic games all around can be played. All positives.

Red Dead Redemption Hits 3.3 Million Netflix Downloads on Mobile

Red Dead Redemption hits 3.3 million Netflix downloads on mobile, underscoring how subscription access drives reach over paid sales.

More like people don't play these type of games on their phone normally and don't try them out. Not like the places where people do play these games haven't crushed those numbers easily.

How many people actually played more than an hour of the game or came close to finishing it on mobile is the real question. If people aren't playing the games to a point that is purposeful, then why try when a subscription that is behind a streaming service isn't a sign of success but just curiosity.

What if Netflix becomes ‘the Netflix of gaming?!’

Alek83132d ago

I downloaded it because I already have a Netflix sub.
I am not going to buy it for $40 or whatever it costs on Google Play.

I tried it out and will be sticking to the PC version, but it's not bad.

Having said that, this is the issues I see vs the PC version:
1. Greatly reduced texture resolution.
2. Massive downgrade ALL lighting quality (this includes water, shadows, etc).
3. Stutter and heat. Prolonged play leads to both.
On the plus side, we have:
4. This thing is like 6GB vs the 12 on Steam.

Great way to try the game, but not the best way to play it.

Perhaps Netflix will make a RDR series now that ST is done with.

Lionsguard133d ago

A Netflix version of RDR?... Oh boy... I can't wait... /s

TheColbertinator133d ago

They should build a production that includes members behind the True Grit remake and Hell on Wheels from AMC. Both were perfect for wild west vibes.

gold_drake132d ago

but i doubt people ACTUALLY played it on smartphone vs tried it out.

Another free update...good to know but I don't own a series X

Petebloodyonion166d ago

I’m not sure what the exact issue is. I had no trouble getting the free update—you basically get the new game for free if you have the 360 version in your digital library. Maybe the problem is related to owning or not owning the Undead DLC expansion.

Hypertension140165d ago (Edited 165d ago )

Yea I think thats what it is. I also own the game but not the expansion, and im unable to download the update.
