Ha, I wish I had a better answer than 'because Google says so' but when I Googled quintillion it said that in the US it is a number followed by 18 zeros, whereas in GB it Is a number followed by 30. Lord knows why...

I've already paid for my digital copy and my physical collectors edition (i havent bought one of those since halo 2), getting my atlas tattoo on wednesday. Waited my entire life for a game that lets me explore planets with a gorgeous aesthetic like this (not a fan of realism). This game was almost custom made by me, and by one of my fellow irishmen too, WITH a band I've liked for a long time now... Stars have aligned. I am calvin daydreaming he is spaceman spiff, its all i've ever wanted from a videogame.

And I am not even one bit hyped. I just know this game is the kinda game I'll get sucked in to in a big way.

In Gran theft Auto, how long can you go about doing missions or races before you are doing the same thing over and over and over again? same can be said about every single game every created. games are repetitive in nature.

Just as there are 18 Quintrillion planets, there will also be a lot of variety for animals as well, as animals are designed and put into the generator to make countless variations. on top of that, the types on animals on planets are based on characteristics for said planet, (how far form the sun, how big, how fast it travels and rotates, chemical make up of atmosphere)

The game is multiplayer, this isnt a game that is goign to hold your hand in that regards. if you a friend have it, work together and find a solar system you both can fly to, then find a planet with some sort of landmark to identify where you are (eg. dark side of the planet + space station on left side) then from there have to pin point POI on the planet and work to find them both.

Multiplayer is there, its just highly unlikely you will find eachother in space, afterall, we ahve sent drones and ships to mars and there isn't any sense of life forms on that planet. image on a planet 50000 light years away

Hello Games has been open to the suggestions of some MP. However, they want people to experience THEIR vision of being left alone to discover and survive on the various planets.

As for "doing the same thing", it really comes down to mechanics. IF you enjoy the mechanics, and how they interact with the game, then you'll spend more time playing. That can be thrilling or boring depending on your preferences, but that's the risk that you take for ANY game.

The animal variety is not only for a planet, but the location on a planet. Not only that, but there are predator vs prey interactions. Not only that, but there are day and night aggressors. That's not to say that every planet will have every type. But, that's a lot of variety. I'm sure that it won't be representative of our planet (in terms of the number of species) but that drive to discover and see new and interesting interactions is part of the games lure. (devs have witnessed man eating plants devouring members of herds...never...ever seen that in a game)

All in all, if you are into the premise of survival, discovery, trade, and travel, then this game should fit the bill. I look at it more like Don't Starve on steroids than Mass Effect. I pretty much know what to expect and will be pleasantly surprised with anything that supersedes my expectations. But, I can understand the questions (devs have been vague purposely to keep a sense of discovery). I guess we'll all be finding out soon.

I agree with what you say other than this. How many games of this type are out there already that have co-op and/or online MP? Not every game needs to have this feature and I respect them for following their goals and desires rather than pandering to the needs of people who want MP in everything. I'm not saying this is you, but many people, in general, see it as a need, like some who see SP as a need; both parties need to let developers make the games they want considering how many of both types exist. The game concept itself doesn't even suit an MP system considering the goal is to actually never see another actual player, but to explore a universe and find out what sits at the center of it.

I laughed at the idea of "discovering said planet and all it's lifeforms" being written as if that will be an easy task. But, you are right. Any game concept can be boiled down to a minimum. It's the nuance that makes each game what it is. Otherwise, we're all just pressing buttons...and how fun is that? 🙂

Not to take apart what you said in a rude way, but when you are near another active player, you will enter a joined "lobby." In doing so you will see what they were to do to a planet, and it would become part of YOUR version of the universe. When you get far enough apart, you are no longer in a joined lobby, and are making your own effects on your own version of the universe.
Multiplayer being something somewhat similar to Journey, if you are familiar with that.
They also have said that if more robust multiplayer is something fans demand, and the game takes off(no pun intended), then that is something they will look into adding.

I have already told you that if you are close enough to another player to enter a shared, seamless lobby together, what each of you do will reflect in each other's universe, even after you've gone your separate ways.
This is a single player game, first and foremost. They had a vision, and they made it. People want to have more multiplayer options, and they will add it if there are enough people that buy it, and want it. That is not what they made this game for, frankly, and I'm afraid patience is required if you want them to give you something different from what they wanted to create. I think what they said is more than reasonable. This really doesn't sound like a game for you, since you really want something to play cooperatively.
