Why would by the PS4 version after the PC?

It's hard to say if the negative feelings that the more informed forum goers and social media purveyors will really translate to the same disdain among the general mass market. There are many who may just see it as a new release, and end up buying it, because it wasn't available before. I think SE left a lot off the table though with the deal, because they lost out a lot of people who would have brought it day one a year ago at full price. But it being an old game, plenty of exposure on what it consists of, and general feelings of discontent, it's not going to be anywhere near as big a seller on PS4....or at least, it won't see the same kind of revenues since many may wait it out to buy it at a cheaper price.

Not sure SE is too concerned about it though. MS likely cut them a rather sizable check to make this happen, which will probably make up for whatever losses they incur. In the meantime, they gained whatever exclusive bump they could on X1, which ironically, really wasn't that much anyhow.

@ Inzo I'm with you on sending the message to SE. I don't mind exclusives when they are published by either MS or Sony but when it's a 3rd party developer and they are paid to keep it off a certain platform for a year then yeah that pisses me off. If it launches on PS4 with the dlc and is around $30.00 I'll pick it up but if it's full price then I'll wait until it's on sale.

I don't think people are against playing it....at least not overall....they just don't want to pay full price for it, and that's because it's now a year old game where it's priced lower every where else. In addition, there is a segment which doesn't wish to reward SE for stripping this game away from a rather sizable portion of it's bigger fan base for a year all for the sake of accepting what is essentially a bribe, but since it's business, it's legal.

Not sure if you realize, but no matter how good of an experience the new TR might offer, there are a ton of great games being released around it (the month before and after as well).

If it was released this month or in the next then it might of had an increase in possible sales.

Honestely It's not that great..I found it pretty stale and boring not even half as enjoyable as Uncharted 4 imo

I think gameplay was pretty good too. Felt like it built nicely on top of the reboot. Was fun for me to play. Story and characters however are by far the games weak point. The characters are terrible and the story is pretty weak (it does have some hope for the future though).

before X1? Where did you get confirmation that it will come on X1? Honestly I am not interested in TR and I did not even play the reboot but I think ps4 users do not want to encourage SE exclusivity practice by buying the game at full price.

The difference Shezgear is Final Fantasy 7 was as iconic as it is because of PS1. So it would be quite off putting if the Company behind it chose to make a 1 year exclusive deal with another company for the sake of $$$ then and there.

now here's the kicker, replace Final Fantasy 7 with Tomb Raider and welcome to what people are pissed about.

I think you are one sided, if it flops on PS4 then Xbox One will never get a 1 year exclusive deal again because PS4 is the market leader this gen.

I've debated this in my head a long while.

Option A: Buy the game, at full cost, at release. -- Does this really tell SE that I didn't like what they did? I mean, to me, it tells them that they could do the same thing later on and we'd still pay full price for the game at date of release as if nothing ever happened.

Option B: Buy the game at half price later down the road. -- Does this really tell SE that I don't like what they did or does it tell them that perhaps not as many people are interested in Lara on PS4? Depends on how they chose to spin it, in the end, it's likely they will blame the gamers for a lack of sales if that is how it turns out.

Option C: Buy the game used over new whenever you can. -- Doesn't work anymore unless you completely ignore DLC. But, would probably be the strongest message to them as it relates to 'using your wallet' to send it. But, it means less money towards future development of whatever game, and, again, the 'PS4 players' will be blamed for any issues later on as they won't make their own decisions the reason for poor sales.

In the end, no matter the outcome, SE will either make it look like it was the right decision because PS4 fans still chose to play it at release or they will blame the players for not picking it up at release or new rather than their own decisions. There is no winning, but I encourage you to do what you feel is best regardless.

K, let them think that. Truthfully, that's their loss, and their own incompetence, and that's stuff we've complained about from SE for a long time...you know...the whole they don't release stuff that the gamers want, and only release stuff that they THINK the gamers want.

People are making it quite clear why they aren't buying the game...whether saying it's because they don't agree with the practice, or simply they aren't willing to buy it at full new release prices. If SE chooses to ignore that, who loses out more going forward?

Answer:

No us. SE will probably still happily take a check if they don't realize where they made a blunder. But they aren't going to ignore a sizable install base like the PS4. If PS4 had been this far ahead when this deal was struck, they probably wouldn't have made it, or it would have cost MS considerably more money. At most, we can simply wait it out for those games we really want to play, and still not pay for price for them. We really lose nothing. SE has the potential to lose out on a lot more....kind of like during all those years they were struggling because people weren't buying their games because they weren't giving people what they wanted.

I personally thought they had come to realize this by now, and were trying to right the ship to focus more on the customers.

Here's the real deal. If the game doesn't sell well on PS4, it's probably not going to get another sequel. Game hasn't sold gang busters already on X1, so why in God's name would SE consider making it exclusive again? PC did decent enough from what I've heard, but still the current sales are significantly lower than what they considered disappointing with the last one.

Will we lose out on a sequel? Yes, everyone loses....all because SE disregarded a fan base. But sure...blame the PS fans. Way to stick up for the consumer there buddy.

Buying used, or when it's a reduced price but then sending a tweet to their twitter or write a message on their forums...or however you can add your voice to any discontent...will send the message clear enough.

Just say something like, "Finally got this game. Would have brought it at launch but SE restricted it's release. Looking forward to playing it, but certainly don't like SE not caring about this long term fan".

Then maybe send a tweet to Spencer thanking him for subsidizing the costs for PS4 users, since you got it cheaper than the Xbox users did.

I know it's idealistic, but if enough people do it, then it actually can have an effect. I've already sent them a email about it back when this all started saying I didn't appreciate it. Ended up getting a code for the PC eventually due to connections when I was kind of complaining about the whole thing to them as part of another discussion....but sadly, that experience wouldn't be typical for most.

Well....at least they didn't have to compete against UC4. Worst money MS ever spent on an exclusive. They didn't need it to compete against UC4 due to the delay. Releasing it this year...well, now they kind of have to compete on the residual hype of UC4, which will likely see some momentum come the holiday season...particularly if a slim bundle gets released....and then there was that bundle with 4 UC games, Until Dawn, and Bloodborne included....so yeah, gonna be tough this holiday for SE.

because of this, I actually think they are going to release it as a kind of GOTY or Definitive edition for around $40. SE isn't really dumb....but they have surprised me in the past with some of their dumb decisions, so who knows.
