Microsoft: 'We Don’t Need Crackdown 3 This Year

Xbox marketing manager Aaron Greenberg claims that Microsoft doesn't need Crackdown 3 to release in 2016, as it has many other games set to launch this holiday season.

The game isn't ready just yet according to the dev, but I am much more excited to hear that MS is attempting to do more of what they tried this year with Quantum break.

Which is to release games more than just during the the last three months of the year and leave the other 9 barren. Definitely a good change in my book as a gamer.

Kingthrash3603588d ago (Edited 3587d ago )

Did he say...many other games are set to launch? And dam, does he think we as gamers who bought a xbox doesn't need games like this right now? ..crackdown...coming when scorpio comes...bet my last dollar on it..
I'm saddened by this tho...why would he think we the Xbox doesn't need games? And then he says they have many games this year....I only remember 1....unless he's talking 3rd party games...then yeah, all have many coming. ..but people wanted Crack down.

Demon....lol just because I have my opinions on MS doesn't mean I don't own or play xbox. I just refuse to sit back and ignore the bs MS has pulled. This article is another bs thing...there are people who saw the crackdown video and bought a xbox for it, only to see them get cocky and say we don't need it right now. That's total BS and if you like the BS then that's on you.
So many things like this, or the recore price and them trying to convince us it's a AAA game, but has a indie price....
Or what exactly the scorpio is...next gen? This gen? Naw, they said there will be no more generations. ...and I'm like well then call ot a pc then....it's just BS after BS...the entire xbo gen and some of the 360 gen...when the kinect was first announced it was supposed to do lots of things, most turned out to be all bs, some features never even seen the light of day. The xbo....remember "every xbox is a dev kit"...'member that?
The cloud?
DX12
win10
Up clocking
Total BC games at launch of BC
Kinect can't be un plugged
Kinect has a 1:1 ratio
360 support 3 years after xbo
Xbo best exclusives line up ever (for this year)
QB exclusive
Drm
Check-ins
Paywalls
Gears exclusive
Halo exclusive
Xbo priced at 399 (without kinect) same price as stronger tech
Pc/xbox shares same ecosystem ...yet pc has exclusives lol...I can go on about the bs they're pulling.....the 360 lost support in its last 3 years and trend seems to be still going....
So yeah I'm highly critical of the BS. I'm sick of it...you should be too....otherwise continue to eat up the bs. And be disappointed so much that you have to act like your are ok with it....because that's where xbots are at right now....MS did a 180 on some things on that list but now it's the xbots who are doing the 180.
When the xbo was released xbots were totally opposite of what they are now.
Bragged about exclusives
Cared about more games over the power
Cared about delayed games and holiday games count.
Now...now, they went full sheep on us.

Thatguy-3103588d ago

I mean in his defense he is right since they have a lot of games releasing in the last 3 months of the year. That still doesn't justify why they should ignore 9 months of the whole year.

freshslicepizza3588d ago

this is a prime example that no matter what ms does people will find fault with their strategy. every time sony announces a game like horizon being delayed the comments are good, no need to rush and it gives them more time to make the game better. or people think microsoft only releases games during a 3 month window during the holiday season so now that they are spreading them out and some people pick that apart too.

the fact is this game isn't ready and it will be coming in 2017 now. we have seen so many times this generation of games getting constantly delayed and i blame that on showing games way too early.

We have Gears of War 4, Dead Rising 4, Forza Horizon 3, and Recore all coming out this fall along with Battlefield, COD, Titanfall 2, Mafia 3, Watch Dogs 2 and more

Aaron is right

darthv723588d ago (Edited 3588d ago )

They showed it to soon and got people all excited. Demoing the cloud powered physics and then it was like... the clouds parted and people just want to know how its coming along.

Its still in development, which is a good thing unlike fable legends.

@chook... how many years has it been since last guardian was first revealed ?

uptownsoul3588d ago (Edited 3588d ago )

Listen, this "packed rest of the year" statement Aaron G is saying is just spin...What does a packed holiday lineup have to do with not showing the game at E3? I mean they showed other 2017 games (Scalebound, Halo Wars 2, Sea of Theives) at E3, right? So why wasn't Crackdown 3 at E3?

Answer: Crackdown 3 will not be ready by holiday 2016...Whether holiday 2016 is packed or not

Mr Pumblechook3588d ago (Edited 3588d ago )

Microsoft need to hire a new PR guy because this is just spin that is so obvious it damages the Xbox brand.
I don't know the state of Crackdown, but if it was near completion Microsoft would not be holding it back from release because Xbox “doesn’t need” it.

The truth is, that over three years since the reveal it is still not ready - if i was a PR guy at Microsoft I would say something like "Crackdown is coming along nicely but a project as ambitious as this takes time so we can deliver the best experience possible!" I now trust Greenberg even less than I did before.

mark_parch3588d ago

there's more than one game coming this holiday recore, forza horizon 3, gears 4 and dead rising 4 which is more than enough with all the multiplats as well. but how come when uncharted and zero dawn get pushed back its all 'take as much time as you want' but when its crackdown its bad news, i also seem to remeber not that long ago articles about recore being delayed again and everyone bashing it but it turned out to be bs

bouzebbal3588d ago (Edited 3588d ago )

They have a pokemon as marketing head, not a competent individual..
They don't have many games this year and VR will completely overshadow any release.. Crackdown will be their next console's launch title, that's cause the cloud computing was in never ready..

ULTp0ltergeist3587d ago (Edited 3587d ago )

Believe me if Crackdown was releasing next month you wouldn't care much about it, but since it wasn't revealed at E3 somehow it's an OUTRAGE! lol

Also I see it differently, starting September it's exclusive after exclusive the next 7 months, so plenty of time for a Crackdown especially with innovative tech.

TheCommentator3587d ago

"I only remember 1"

There's your problem right there. That and the fact that people want Crackdown done right. IF you remembered, MS was going to release the MP portion of the game this year and add the single player at a later date. Now, it looks like it'll release when it's all finished instead. You know what's really funny though? How many people agree with you when you clearly haven't got a clue what you're talking about.

It's simple: The game is ambitious and it just isn't ready yet. Don't you think that Sony fans want The Last Guardian, FF7 remake, or Shenmue 3? Last Guardian is like 10 years old but it will be done when it's ready, just like Crackdown 3. The issue is not isolated to one developer, publisher, or console.

UltraNova3587d ago

Darth,

To me the answer is obvious, yes it will not be ready this year, ergo the spin "we dont need it this year" simply because the magic cloud does not work and they have to re-write parts kf the engine to make it work locally, i.e. on the hardware which it will surely be on scorpio.

History will prove me wrong or right but considering MS's history I'm strongly leaning on the latter.

morganfell3587d ago

@darth,

Do you really think it makes things appear better by dragging Sony into the argument? Especially considering the line of real exclusives they have brought this generation...and every generation.

"there's more than one game coming this holiday recore, forza horizon 3, gears 4 and dead rising 4 which is more than enough with all the multiplats as well."

The last time I checked the PC wasn't a MS owned platform. All of those games are multiplats too. You can call them console exclusives if you wish but they are multiplatform games. dead Rising is not only multiplatform but from leaked info may actually be a timed console exclusive.

I don't think Crackdown could compete against the fall/holiday heavy hitters. By not releasimg Crackdown this year, MS can focus on ReCore (a new IP) and additionally push Gears 4 and Forza Horizon 3 during the late fall/holiday. I would assume Crackdown 3's delay had to do with the game's mp, it's very ambitious and having a bad launch would be disastrous.

Thatguy-3103588d ago

And you think recore will survive?? At least the game is from an existing franchise. Recore is going to get destroyed. They should've release that game early next year to let it breath on its own. I think crackdown 3 isn't ready just yet. Funny how they criticized Sony for announcing games that are far from release but yet they delay the once that have been given released dates like crackdown and scale bound

MachuchalBrotha3163588d ago

@thatguy-310. Recore is not the only game thats gonna get destroyed tho. And its a new game..I wouldn't expect it to sell like a AAA title.

uptownsoul3588d ago (Edited 3588d ago )

Crackdown 3 isn't ready for a holiday 2016 release. Saying the fall lineup is too packed is just Aaron G's spin. Think about it, if the game were gonna be ready this holiday & the packed lineup is whats pushing it to 2017 then why didn't we see the game at E3? I mean, we saw other 2017 Xbox games at E3 (Halo Wars 2, Scalebound, Sea of Thieves). And if it were going to be ready this holiday (but not released b/c of a packed lineup) whats stopping the beta from being released this fall?

Fist4achin3587d ago

I never really thought of Crackdown to be a major release. Maybe with the popularity of superheroes, it will be better received.

spoonard3587d ago

Yes, they can focus on other games that won't compete with competitors' games.

What? How do you people just swallow PR like that?

All of their console exclusive games (Recore, Gears, Forza and Dead Rising) come out within a few weeks of each other this holiday, they have had pretty much nothing all year.

Nothing has changed.

darthv723588d ago

It's good that more games will be coming out more often throughout the year. but don't try and lie and cover up the fact that crackdown wasn't ready anytime soon to show to the public. If he would have said that they need more development time, I'd believe him. But what he's saying is hogwash.

All that cloud, cloud, cloud,DX12, cloud was just Microsoft trying to push some type of power advantage over PS4 because Sony made a better system in a shorter amount of time. Then they used the game to try and sell that power. When the cloud didn't work, and showing falling buildings in crackdown didn't work, they are now turning to announcing Scorpio to show a power advantage.

Making more quality games and releasing them throughout the year is a power advantage. Basically.... Do what Sony does. Take some of those billions they have and build some more development studies producing games. And stop worrying about power. It didn't work with the OG Xbox. It didn't work with 360. It hadn't worked all this gen trying to be the most powerful.

Sony learned since PS1 that they needed to make games. With PS2, better games. With PS3, better, bigger studios to make better games. With PS4, an easier way to make better games. Which is why Sony let third parties go multiplatform last gen. How come Microsoft can't recognize that it's not just about power? Crackdown was a sham. And Greenberg knows it.

Didn't Sony close dev. Studios? Sony has reduced the number of studios since the launch of PS4 so, having more studios is not always a good thing.

Why is Crackdown 3 a sham because it was delayed? Would that apply to every delayed game? Then what would you call "Last guardian"? That was delayed years.

I just curious what facts do you have to back up your statements? Are you stating facts or just your opinion? It appears to be the latter as opposed to the former. Because some of your statements are not true for example Xbox360 outslod PS3 for years and Sony didn't catch up till the end of the generation after massive price cuts. Remember when PS3 came out at $599 and when Sony was asked about the high price they said people could work overtime to make extra money to pay for it. That's facts. How soon people forget.

joeorc3588d ago (Edited 3588d ago )

@itsmebryan

[Xbox360 outslod PS3 for years and Sony didn't catch up till the end of the generation after massive price cuts. ]

You forgot , the only in North America and some times in the UK..but As for world Wide since Day the PS3 was Launch on a world wide market Sony was outselling Microsoft's Xbox 360.

And how do you even think Sony was able to catch up at all?

It's because on a world wide scale in the games console market Sony is just a stronger Brand with PlayStation. Than Microsoft is with its Xbox brand.

So you saying Microsoft outsold Sony is not completely correct. And if you want to have further facts, at the Time Microsoft only had the Xbox 360 game console.. One console for the market..while Sony and Nintendo have more Game console systems in the retail channel, it was a 7:1 in favor of Nintendo & Sony total systems vs only one system at a time in retail for the games console market which means in retail brick and mortar stores world wide..Microsoft's shelf retail space is rather limited vs Both Sony and Nintendo in a world wide market..because the games console market is a world wide market..not just the North American and UK market.

And also the PS3 did not release until 17 months after the xbox360 was released in some markets. The fact that Sony was able to overcome a not only 8million console lead, but also at a higher price point, and even now while the xbox360 has been discontinued.. The PS3 is still in retail channel's and is still being supported with new digital releases.

Think about this when the Xbox one S gets released next month..the original Xbox one will be phased out..that will mean until the Xbox one scorpion releases, Microsoft's going to be down to just production of one Xbox system.

While Sony will still have the PS3, PSVita, PS4 and adding now soon the PS4 Neo.. That will be a 3 to 1 Advantage..that will go to a 4 to 2
And unlike Microsoft's commitment to VR..Sony will further increase PlayStation platforms by having Dedicated Support for its PlayStation VR.

Now again just because Sony has more platforms in the market really does not mean Microsoft's position is pretty weak or has no real market penetration.

No, but what it does it N fact mean is Sony has more Market share and mind share on a larger scale in the game console market world wide.

ApocalypseShadow3587d ago (Edited 3587d ago )

Closing a studio or two doesn't change the fact that Sony, a smaller company than Microsoft, has MORE studios that produce more games and a higher amount of quality games. They learned that that is what it takes to sell your product. Which is by leading by example.

If Greenberg would have said that they were delaying the game, no one has a problem with that. I'd rather all developers delay their games to make them better and less buggy with less patches. But he's using PR spin. You would have to be naive to not figure this out.

Sony mentioned saving a little more because consoles used to be $199-$299 in price. Obviously to anyone with common sense, if the system is launching at $499-$599, you would have to save more or work more to get it right? Do you see the price difference between the two? It's not that hard to figure out.

They also changed the system and did price cuts because gamers complained they couldn't afford it. Then when they downsized its features, Gamers complained they didn't get all of what the launch system had which was features like BC. Not hard to figure out either.

And as Joe said, Sony launching later than Microsoft with 360 has nothing to do with Greenberg doing PR spin. The game wasn't ready. Just say it isn't and being truthful gains more respect than spin. It's why I don't trust Microsoft because they mislead and think gamers are stupid. And they do it often like it's okay.

rainslacker3587d ago (Edited 3587d ago )

I kind of had a feeling it wouldn't be ready this year after the E3 2015 trailer. They had some nice CGI, and then a kind of game play trailer where they showed the devs working on it, and then some cinematic camera work to make it look more along than it was, with no reference to how that would be seen in the game(city being destroyed closer to the end) and it looked like it was fairly early in the development process. Not right at the beginning, maybe 6-8 months along, but well before they start putting in the fancy stuff that makes it look great. Given optimization time after all that fancy stuff, testing for online, fixing bugs, and final polishing, I thought they'd be hard pressed to release it this year, because they'd basically have 13-15 months to actually do all that, but thought maybe they kept something on the back burner to show for later. Games like this would take a long time to make, and they also had to get the cloud destruction working, which I think they had achieved in game come e3's 2015 trailer. But that means they'd still have to balance the game, and then work on the final builds which would make it a fun experience.

Nothing wrong with delays if it makes a game better IMO. However, Greenburg really should try better with his PR spin. Saying they want to make the game better is a lot less ego-maniacal than my interpretation of his quote(assuming the game could be released this year), and that interpretation is,

"We have more than enough games this year for our players, they don't need CD3 now, no matter how much they want it or have been looking forward to it. It's about what MS wants, and we don't need it, so you can't have it".

Kind of a liberal interpretation, but realistically, that's kind of how it sounds, although I'm sure that wasn't what he meant contextually....although the more likely scenario is that the game just isn't ready. Sometimes it pays to be honest and just lay it out there so people don't interpret things negatively. Sony's gotten away with just saying a game isn't quite ready yet enough times without it hurting sales that MS could do the same. Fan boys will bicker, but ultimately, it won't matter.

It's OK, I'll just wait for it to come out in 2017, I think this game will start something new with games, something that hasn't ever happened to gaming, and that's cloud destruction, I hope it gets the "Scorpio" upgrade.

This is the future of gaming that isn't available on any other console! 4K gaming, unprecedented graphical fidelity, cloud gaming....I think Microsoft are doing a great job with gamers, please don't rush the game, I'm a BIG Crackdown fan, I want this game to be something special, something amazing that can't be achieved on any other console. Not even PS4.

demonddel3588d ago

Exactly it's gonna be a ambitious title not some story driven game where you rarely play but do a lot of watching

akaFullMetal3588d ago

Hey, I know Quantumbreak isn't the best game out there but it's not that bad.

jb2273587d ago

The cloud is available for any console, PS4 included. I'm curious to see how Crackdown turns out, but anyone fully believing the PR line & first demo are by the same measure ignoring the fact that the game hasn't been shown whatsoever for the past year, the beta has quietly been canceled, and there is no release window beyond 2017.

Also there's the fact that the demo originally shown off was running off of 11 dedicated servers & a blazing fast perfect scenario internet connection, and even that was only a walled off portion of a single map. If they get the game up to the standards it has promised gamers then that'd be amazing, but when MS has a long track record of over promising & under delivering (Kinect 2.0), and in some cases not delivering at all (DVR, Fable Legends, Phantom Dust), it's kinda foolish to hang your hat on this game until it is actually in your machine.

Also gives them more time to polish it up, very curious about the cloud tech used.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing14d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit14d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing14d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
