This really wouldn't be all that surprising. I mean take into account the PS3 sales figures, its doing quite well, and then take into account the issues with "The Orange Box" for the PS3 from EA(?)

The problems with "The Orange Box" have really left Valve without much recourse. No one can really step up and fix the issues due to the way it was done.

Say what you will about Gabe, but I get the distinct impression that he takes great pride in his work as he should. So seeing his company's IP look bad is just not sitting well with him. I think that if PS3 sales weren't what they are, then he would be more willing to sweep it under the carpet. The fact of the matter is that he, and any game dev for that matter, likes to see the product of their hard work succeed on as big a scale as possible. In this case the entire world. Especially since the PS3 is doing well everywhere and its success is not mainly in NA. Yeah, I know the 360 is doing well in various regions as well, but when you can damn near double your market penetration, you really need to go after it.

It can no longer be denied. Sure developers love to make a game for a 20 million install base (360), but with another 15 million install base (PS3), it's a clear decision to maximize profits.

Now if we go back into time when the PS3 was only at 3-5 million install base, that's where we saw developers like Gabe saying "The PS3 is a waste of time"

It is hard to tell from one little sentence and from a blog, mind you. But I assume this is about the mega 360 patch, new maps, new game modes and other DLC.

This is terrible logic. Let them admit their mistakes and fix them. Its not like Valve slept with your girlfriend or punched your dog. I refused to support the EA developed crap they shoveled out previously but if they put in proper research on PS3 then good for them. Let bygones be bygones, and I will support it. A boycott or hope for failure when a company is trying to correct their mistakes is just plain counterproductive.

EDIT: Something else I should add. If and when Valve actually makes games for the PS3, and they end up kicking ass, and when they decide "hey, the PS3 cell wasn't that hard to develop for after all, we actually enjoy working with it and can do a ton of things WITH it", it would be a pleasure to hear the 360 fanboys go "OMG, THEY BETRAYED US!!"

If for nothing else, to watch them squirm and get fired up while we laugh at THEM for a change.

That is what makes a good console. PS3 is seriously lacking this way because Sony, in their stupidity, designed a Bluray player first, gaming console second. Enjoy waiting for games and services droids.

I have to call bullsh1t on that one. At least as far as Episode 2 is concerned. It was good but the ending ripped off Stardhip Troopers. And not by a little bit. That made me sad.

and got shafted by Valve and Gabe. Many PS3 owners are out 60 bucks for a broken game. To make matters worse, he is unapologetic about the obvious mishandling of his own IP. He's statements and his additude toward Half-life/TF2 fans on the PS3 is unprofessional.

It is one thing for Gabe to dislike the PS3 design or Sony, but it's another thing to punish the PS3 owners for it. There was no way EA's second-hand dev team could have made a decent port of Orange Box. This is obvious even in theory.

Exactly what I've been saying for weeks since Gabe made his childish remarks.
