From our point of view, pretty spot on. Only one I'd maybe give a pass to would be the last of us it's a game I believe everyone should get a chance to play in my opinion, but I won't give it a pass as I believe it's on PS now, so if you didn't play it or didn't have a PS3, there's your option.
Now from the companies' point of view. Tomb raider didn't make as much as expected, doing a definitive edition probably helped them get closer to the number they were hoping for. The last of us released back when the PS4 was getting hammered for having no games, so I can see why Sony thought it necessary. and Beyond two souls... Maybe they thought people were passing on it because they were putting that cash towards a PS4? maybe?

Goldby3594d ago

what people dont seem to realise is that as bad as gamers see PS NOW on ps4, it isnt intended for the core gamers, the Service itself is for first time gamers who are unsure of the games and console to pick up, and also for guests of Hotels and resorts, as the main pushign power of PS now is on Smart TVs in Hotels and Resort rooms where all they ahve to worry about is a missing 50$ controller instead of a 400$ system

lipton1013594d ago

Psnow, ugh. Great idea but my input lag was unbearable.

yeahright23593d ago

Yup, Sony just let messaging get away from them. Everyone started saying "we wanted backwards compatibility and you give us ps now? that's not BC." To which I say "yes, but it was never meant to be an answer for backwards compatibility." It was always meant for the business traveler, or the out of state college kid, the 360 to PS4 convert, etc. Basically don't look to PS now for backwards compatibility, look to it if you don't own or have access to a playstation.

I don't understand the complaints, nobody is putting a gun to your head, don't want it? Don't buy it, easy.

TheHip143594d ago

Agreed. No one is forcing you to buy these. I don't think they're all unnecessary either. There's a certain fanbase for this type of stuff and no one says you have to buy these games.

Nintendo4Lifex3594d ago

Takes away from new games. You want those nobody isn't holdint a gun to your head amd saying you cant go buy a last gen console and buy the game new for said game. Wouldn't have all these "remasters" now would we? Your happy and im happy.

_-EDMIX-_3594d ago

@Nintendo4- "Takes away from new games"

Myth 1. um "Takes away from new games"....no.

http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

Blue Point Games did not make Uncharted 4, they were never going to make Uncharted 5 or The Last Of Us 2, their entire job is to PORT games over.......thats it.

Myth 2. Having the function would mean not having the remaster....

"Wouldn't have all these "remasters" now would we?" Yes...we likely would. Having BC doesn't mean you own the game, it merely means you own the feature that allows it to be played.

Example. I own a PS3, I can own a PS3 that clearly can play PS1 games, that doesn't mean I own Parasite Eve, it merely means I own a PS3.

If you are Square, what good does it do you that I CAN play Parasite Eve, but don't own the game? What good does it do Square that I can buy it used?
What good does it do ME that I have to spend MORE money to get that game based on its age and limited availability?

https://www.amazon.com/Para...

I'm not buying an PS1 RPG USED! Not with the CD format bud.

Thus, it doesn't help me, doesn't help Square.

BUT putting Parasite Eve on PSN allows for me to have a digital version, lower cost and I clearly might have never owned the game to care about BC on my PS3, BC doesn't get me the game bud.

https://store.playstation.c...

So PS3 can play PS1 games NATIVE.......still has PS1 ports. Why? Because of what I clearly stated, if you are a gamer, you want to play titles you might have never got the chance to years ago on PS1, but don't want to spend 100 bucks on a new copy, Square and many publishers CLEARLY know this, thus release digital versions because a market exist that wants them.

_-EDMIX-_3594d ago

Myth 3. Cost a lot of money that could be used on a main game.

http://www.gamesindustry.bi...

1.3 million is a lot of money.......for a port. MOST ports cost a little under 1 million, you know of a AAA game that cost 1 million to CREATE FROM THE GROUND UP?

1 million or so is the cost to make such a port, it makes the company MORE money then it cost.

Thus....why get mad at them spending 1 million to earn 6 million if that 6 million is THEN spent on actual main development?

Mind you, its not even to say they don't have the money, some compies spend 30 TIMES more money on MARKETING then on a port, thus....who cares? You'd rather they spend that money on a tv ad then getting a remaster or a collection etc?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

Take a look at how much they spend on marketing bud....

You really crying over 1 million they spend to give consumers a remaster? Activision spent 200 million to market a COD. I'd rather have a remaster of COD4, then merely have them spend that on themselves, how does that help YOU?

So release no port, keep the 1 million, have less money and as a result have the game take longer?

LMFAO! Who is this helping exactly?

I've found that MOST who are against remasters and ports, also know the least about the process, yet post these very likely myth "reasons" on why they are supposedly bad.

Thank the Zelda ports for funding Zelda Wii U and NX, thank the RE4-6 ports for funding REVII and RE2 Remake, thank the MGS collection for helping fund MGSV, thank the ICO/SoTC collection for helping The Last Guardian's development, thank the Uncharted collection for giving more funds to help with Uncharted 4 and likely the last of us 2.

To NOT support the existence of ports, is to say you don't want your favorite publisher making money to make you new games....

You don't need to LIKE or BUY ports bud, but please don't try to make it sound as if it "takes away from new games" when its very likely those ports are only reason you might be playing those "new games" in a timely manner.

@EDMIX

Well said. Informed responses are what we need here, more than ever.

------------------
Personally, I haven't gone out and bought every remaster, but I've been satisfied with those I have:

The Last of Us I never got to play, and because of that I have a hard time thinking of it as a last-gen game. It was just so good.

Sleeping Dogs was an underrated game last gen, and I loved it greatly. I never bought the DLC, so when the remaster went on sale for less than the price of all the DLC, I pounced. It might not be the best remaster, but I would have put Sleeping Dogs away much sooner otherwise.

GTA V is another game I can't call last gen because I didn't play it then, and it's just so damned good.

Persona 4 Golden to me is a life, a portable Japanese life, that became far too important in my real life. I had played Persona 3 FES before, and liked it greater, true. But I can't imagine losing such an integral part of the entire year it took to complete that game and it's optional dungeons.

Those are the only remasters I bought this-gen and if it's any indication of quality, I will continue buying more.

I'm glad they remastered the last of us. Being a 360 to ps4 convert, I never would have had the chance to play their masterpiece

psplova3594d ago (Edited 3594d ago )

This. And I enjoyed The Uncharted Collection, TLOU, SLEEPING DOGS, Tomb Raider, GTA V and Assassins Creed Black Flag quite immensely, thank you. Missed ALL those gems last gen.. Now I get to play them (cheaper, cause I can) AND in HD!?! Yes, please.

NeoGamer2323594d ago

Think of how many new and original games could've been made had resources been directed from re-masters to original new games.

oasdada3594d ago

Enough with these crappy opinion pieces.. I think remastering a few year old last gen console game makes sense.. I sold my ps3 before last of us came out. Same with ps2 and gow2

Funny considering Bruce left half way through development and now we get told there was an internal conflict with the story direction.

Makes you think…

HectixRose19d ago

I think it was good decision, if he was still alive, he would have been a mascot just like Kratos, drake and many others. These old dudes gotta die for new characters to take center stage with their own storyline. They keep dragging the emotional baggage into many sequels and eventually the story just turns into absolute shit show.

JEECE19d ago

It was ironic because people complained heavily about the story in the Uncharted games not having sufficient stakes because all the key characters always survived, despite the dangerous situations they were always in. Then ND killed a character in a more serious series and everyone lost their minds. Just shows that people don't always really want the thing they say they want.

CantThinkOfAUsername18d ago

I thought the more common complaint about Uncharted franchise was how the main cast are the good guys acting so nonchalantly while killing hundreds in cold blood (aka the dissonance between gameplay and story cutscenes). They just did it again in Part II.

Soy19d ago

Didn't have to kill him. Just have them part ways or Joel can "retire," whatever.

DarXyde19d ago

I don't think he would necessarily need to become a mascot (and besides, technically, I'd say Ellie is... So regardless, someone was going to be).

From a narrative perspective, I do think it has a similar effect to Ricky dying in Boyz N Da Hood: very likeable character, and you're really motivated to see the get back—in this case, it's more intense because it's an interactive experience. Most people hated Abby, but I get what they were after with portraying the cycle of violence and revenge—unfortunately, the game appears to want to take the side of the bad people.

But I will say that if Joel survived, it does become harder to tell an interesting story. What COULD have happened is an exploration into the rift between Joel and Ellie after the trolley dilemma events of the first game. It could have been interesting to see Abby out for revenge at the same time Ellie hated Joel.

Ashunderfire8618d ago

Sorry just had to say this lol! RICKYYYY!

Man Cuba Gooding Jr was miscast in that movie, but that part was cringey it was sad and funny at the same time man.

Ashunderfire8618d ago (Edited 18d ago )

I understand but the way they went about killing Joel, was poorly executed. Even the show of the Last of Us games tried to improved it, but it was just as bad. Well at least Joel got to know the reason why he had to die, before the death happened in the show. That part gave us the full context, but the game just let it happen with no pay off.

Joel death should have been a midway thing through the story, so we at least get to play him a little more with Ellie. Abby didn’t need to be this Hulk looking woman, but more like the show Abby which is a beater idea in my opinion.

The only ND game that was so disappointing to me I couldn't finish it.

pwnmaster300019d ago

Honestly as much as I loved the game, they could have just not killed him off.
I get it creator vision and all but killing a character that made you millions is just wrong imo. At least have him go down fighting.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle19d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted
