With Final Fantasy XIII's recent switch to Xbox 360, and Star Ocean: The Last Hope's questionable exclusivity to the Xbox 360, Is any purposed blockbuster exclusive safe in today's world?
Extract:
"With loss of exclusively becoming more frequent, it's no wonder why the majority of gamers feel that their consoles are becoming more like internet browsers, downloading and having the same access to content."

With the release of the Devil May Cry series on Netflix, we take a moment to look back on this almost 20-year-old series and let you know the best of the best.
"Devil May Cry 2 isn’t trash. It’s just misunderstood by a fanbase that doesn’t like change."
This and putting DMC 2 number 2 is all I need to ignore this ranking. DMC2 is absolute trash and it's clear this person doesn't understand exactly why.

Kazuyuki Shindo, who worked on games including Legend of Mana, Final Fantasy XIII, and SaGa: Emerald Beyond, has left Square Enix.

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."
3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them
2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.
God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best
Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...
5, 3, 1, 4, 2.
I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.
But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me
Exclusive are all but gone and will probably not even be a memory next gen. Only 1st party and internally developed games can be held to such a standard. While Microsoft is tossing money out to all these 3rd party companies just to get games on their system Sony is sitting back and making their own games and tossing their money into making them better.
Maybe this should be the standard???
I just recently completed my trifecta of console ownership, and I sure do wish that exclusives (not timed) remain in the future for all consoles. Id hate to have spent all that money, only to get games released on all 3 consoles all the time.
This is again one wrong opinion due the lack of knowledge. This kind amateur articles don’t reflect the real situation in the industry. Even more some of internet resources like this one try to show the things in the light that justifies the faulty MS strategy on the market.
The main issue of this article reflects in this wrong sentence “Sony’s and Microsoft’s similar ideologies don’t help towards video games exclusivity.” It is wrong in its basis. The strategy and ideology of Sony is just opposite to MS’s. I mean that all efforts of MS directed to pull all PS exclusives on its side. Sometimes this position is unsecussesfull but mostly it gives posivive results to Microsoft. But these efforts is possible only with 3rd party developers.
Now we got a situation when Sony created its own developing basis. I mean a couple of dozen of dependent on Sony studios that work for PS3 games only. Microsoft “set free” Bizzare Creations (PGR) and Bungie (Halo) and now became completely 3rd party dependant. To get exclusives on its side MS has to pay extra money to them to compensate their possible losses which are equivalent to their possible profits they would have selling PS3 versions of their games. Now PS3 part on multiplat games are about 40% worldwide so compensation bills must be huge. And this is money for nothing, for not-doing.
In Sony’s side they have their own dev basis, they makes disks at their own facities and they are publishers. That means that all their exclusivity expenses are minimized.
According to all written above I may say that Sony now is capable to provide an adequate number of exclusivities, while MS is going to be unable to afford a big number of good AAA exclusivities soon without significant funds losses
Great comment gunnar2906!
Maybe we will see great Sony exclusives again. After all Killzone 2 is just around the corner!
Well said gunnar
i wouldnt be surprised if companies are asking money from microsoft for multiplatform release when it was probably the third party companies intention to go multiplatform anyway..
but word is out, microsoft is willing to pay, why not get that free money..
hey if you want to pay me for something i was going to do anyway, no problem...
everyone has their hands out now when it comes to microsoft...
