RED DEAD REDEMPTION: Broken Online with Backwards Compatibility

"Although the offline portion of the game runs flawlessly with no severe bugs, the online portion of the game is essentially broken: NPCs such as people in towns, people riding horse & carriage along roads and enemies in gang hideout don't spawn leading to bugs including XP glitching; Other player's characters sometimes don't appear in the game and only on the minimap, and when they do appear in the game gun-fighting doesn't seem to negate health; Load times to connect to servers or respawning seem to be up to three times as slow." - GameTyrant.com

Okay, so one can deduce that to play online, it is best to use a real 360. If you just want to play offline then xb1 is fine. I only have this on my 360 and its great so hopefully they get the online functionality sorted out. Or maybe that was part of the deal for RDR to get on the BC list...? It's rockstar's game so they could have some strange clause in there.

edit: ahh... well that explains things. I only play the single player portion myself.

TheHorseTamer3591d ago (Edited 3591d ago )

That is not true. The Xbox One BC is running on the same Xbox 360 online server as was already stated by Rockstar themselves. The RDR online server has been like this on Xbox 360/PS3. This is nothing but a click bait article.

Question:  I’m having some general issues with Red Dead Redemption’s Online multiplayer mode on the Xbox One via Backward Compatibility.

Answer: We are aware of issues with RDR’s Online multiplayer mode on Xbox 360 and Xbox One via Backward Compatibility. Please note there is no difference in online play experience between Xbox 360 and Xbox One. https://support.rockstargam...

Thanks for posting this. It's actually been this way since last gen infact it seems all the bugs from last gen were ported over to BC. I hope Rockstar decides to release a fix this time around. the link below is helpful especially for those interested in mp.

RDR online never worked from day one. It's always been completely riddled with bugs and a total lag fest.

InactiveUser3590d ago

Just remaster the game (complete with Undead Nightmare). I'd rebuy.. looking forward to BioShock Collection in September.

CTxCB3590d ago

I'd love to see a remastered game, Red Dead Redemption is a beautiful game that deserves such a remake. The title of my article is MEANT to alert people that the online portion of the Backwards Compatibility for Red Dead Redemption is severely broken, if people are now buying the game to play online... It isn't purposely clickbait, I'm not entirely sure it even is... Especially when in the article it states the problem is with the Xbox 360 game.

This has nothing to do with BC. Its an issue on rockstars end and the same thing happens if u play native on 360.

CTxCB3590d ago (Edited 3590d ago )

You're right, it DOESN'T have anything to do with Backwards Compatibility... The purpose of the article is to alert people that there are these online problems (if they haven't played the Xbox 360 version since these problems really started to become serious). In that respect, it's easier to state "Broken Online with Backwards Compatibility", rather than "Broken Online with Xbox 360" because it'll just warrant unnecessary confusion, the wording I've used isn't a problem especially when the article clearly states the root of the problem is the Xbox 360 game.

Are developers supporting the newfound online presence on BC games by releasing patches and fixes?

Concertoine3590d ago (Edited 3590d ago )

I hear Red Dead is a hot mess in terms of code, basically a beautiful vase held together by band-aids. The online was incredibly easy to break, and probably impossible to fix for any significant amount of time.

Basically hackers exploited the nature of the NPC spawning system.

Goldby3590d ago

scooby doo bandaids, or hello kitty?

TFJWM3590d ago (Edited 3590d ago )

Why should they? BC is BC you usually don't patch 5+ year old games... I doubt they had anything to do with the BC release other than allowing MS to edit the code to allow it to work on the Xbox One.

CTxCB3590d ago

I think they try and should fix the online problems, purely because a ton of people are buying Red Dead Redemption for Xbox One either online, or via the Xbox 360 / One Marketplace... For example, Red Dead Redemption on Amazon has skyrocketed to 13th place on the Xbox 360 charts.

2pacalypsenow3591d ago (Edited 3590d ago )

Played it last night on PS3 online there were around 15 people playing and not a single issue.

Edit : I guess 6 people disagree that I played it on Ps3??

From my research, it seems like a problem that only affects the Xbox 360 game, I think it's probably easier for modders or something.

OpenGL3590d ago

I've heard that the 360 version is actually broken, which means that it is also broken on Xbox One since they're effectively the same.

CTxCB3590d ago (Edited 3590d ago )

The Xbox 360 game is broken online because of modders and such, and without work on Rockstar's end, it will continue to be broken. The Xbox One suffers these problems, because Backwards Compatibility is simply an emulation of the Xbox 360 platform... Same game running on the same server, same bugs / glitches, same modders.

More like people don't play these type of games on their phone normally and don't try them out. Not like the places where people do play these games haven't crushed those numbers easily.

How many people actually played more than an hour of the game or came close to finishing it on mobile is the real question. If people aren't playing the games to a point that is purposeful, then why try when a subscription that is behind a streaming service isn't a sign of success but just curiosity.

What if Netflix becomes ‘the Netflix of gaming?!’

Alek83117d ago

I downloaded it because I already have a Netflix sub.
I am not going to buy it for $40 or whatever it costs on Google Play.

I tried it out and will be sticking to the PC version, but it's not bad.

Having said that, this is the issues I see vs the PC version:
1. Greatly reduced texture resolution.
2. Massive downgrade ALL lighting quality (this includes water, shadows, etc).
3. Stutter and heat. Prolonged play leads to both.
On the plus side, we have:
4. This thing is like 6GB vs the 12 on Steam.

Great way to try the game, but not the best way to play it.

darthv72120d ago

Perhaps Netflix will make a RDR series now that ST is done with.

Lionsguard118d ago

A Netflix version of RDR?... Oh boy... I can't wait... /s

TheColbertinator118d ago

They should build a production that includes members behind the True Grit remake and Hell on Wheels from AMC. Both were perfect for wild west vibes.

gold_drake118d ago

but i doubt people ACTUALLY played it on smartphone vs tried it out.

Another free update...good to know but I don't own a series X

Petebloodyonion151d ago

I’m not sure what the exact issue is. I had no trouble getting the free update—you basically get the new game for free if you have the 360 version in your digital library. Maybe the problem is related to owning or not owning the Undead DLC expansion.

Hypertension140151d ago (Edited 151d ago )

Yea I think thats what it is. I also own the game but not the expansion, and im unable to download the update.
