Neither as far as the general market is concerned.

UltimateMaster3616d ago (Edited 3616d ago )

Is there a difference in ideas between the 2?
Both play the previous games from the previous console.
Both are a mid-refresh consoles.
Both support VR, altough PS VR will be more supported and liked. (Occulus on PC hasn't have as much approval compared to Vibe)

Filmicfps3616d ago

Both are the same. One will be more powerful than the other.

Kabaneri3616d ago

The difference is, one will actually have exclusives.

joeorc3616d ago

There is a very distinct branch that both are taking.

With Microsoft its unity between PC 💻 & Xbox 🎮 as a platform.

With Sony is Playstation unity with the TV 📺 itself.

Example:
Microsoft is building a connection between the PC 💻 an Xbox 🎮 in several ways, one of which is UWP, and its network services. But its from PC 💻 box, latptop, surface tablet 💻, windows phone to Xbox 🎮 .

Sony. Is on the other hand is connecting directly to the smart TV 📺 itself .
Example Sony has now put Playstation Vue & Playstation Now into Smart TV 📺 & Smart Phone and already has Playstation Vue on smart Streaming box's.
Even though every playstation 4 will have playstation Now & playstation Vue.
Sony is turning the TV 📺 itself into a Playstation system
👉 [node]👈

Now the difference is Sony is not trying to replace its Existing Playstation Game console with a smart TV, but instead is making the Smart TV 📺 itself as part of its Playstation Eco system.

@candystop
I kind of agree but, as shown this gen, the fan base for Xbox is not strong enough to keep a console relevant. So like you said, it may have to do with power....
The differences between the two is the biggest between the two to date. Do not belittle it because

We all know the later years of Xbox360 sucked but this generation MS has improved quite a bit. I can't really speak in there defense currently because I'm not sure where the heck they're headed game wise but will say this generation is on par with Sony!

Kind of hard to say without knowing Sony's actual intentions. Even with MS, we only have a cursory glance at what they intend, and that isn't enough to definitively say that it will be good or bad. So many things could come up that will make them great, or make them horrible, and right now, about all we know is that they exist, and that the companies claim they aren't going to drop legacy support.

Too many articles are trying to claim a winner, or discern which will be the best for the consumer, by comparing the two, when we currently don't even know the rules of the race....or even when it's set to begin.

joeorc3616d ago (Edited 3616d ago )

In my opinion it boils down to whomever. Has the best strategy going forward.

I break this down in simple terms as:

With Microsoft its unity between PC 💻 & Xbox 🎮 as a platform.

With Sony is Playstation unity with the TV 📺 itself.

Microsoft's. Still trying to put a [box] under your TV 📺. Which Is fine, but its still a box under the TV.

Sony on the other Hand ✋ is now incorporating not just smartphone& tablet's but most importantly the TV 📺 itself, because of several reasons.

1) they make Smart TV's
2) They have a vested interest into the Os powering those smart Tv's mainly Android Os.
3) Smart TV's are now being the most prolifically. Expanding compute platform for the Living room.because of Smart.TV's being the industry standards for all TV 📺 manufacturing Soon.

4) since a Smart Tv 📺 seamlessly work with most Mobile smartphones & Tablets today, Sony is making sure that same case could be said about the Smart TV 📺. Seamlessly working in conjunction. With Sony's living room playstation system.

Stream from one playstation to any smart TV 📺. You have in your house 🏠 via over the internet or over a local AdHoc network. Online or offline.

One PS game console could act as a local server to all your smart TV's tablets, smartphones that are in your house.

343_Guilty_Spark3616d ago (Edited 3616d ago )

They are not enabling all these Smart TV functions on competing TV sets.

You're seriously overvaluing a Smart TV. Joe Blow can easily get a cheaper 1080p set and plug in an Amazon fire stick, Roku, RaspPi Wintel stick, or Chromecast and have nearly all the same functionality of an expensive Sony Smart TV .

joeorc3616d ago (Edited 3616d ago )

Yes, they are...@ Spark
Samsung smart TV's already has playstation now!

Do you really think Sony is or would not do so?
I'm overvalued a smart TV 📺?
How is it overvalued, when its the TV 📺. Itself that Is the center of the entertainment of your living room. Your Xbox or PS4 is connected to what ? A TV 📺. Or monitor I think its quite important.
And again.

You mention Roku, Amazon 🔥 fire stick, chromecast. when you do know Playstation Vue is on such devices already?

Because they are already doing such.

Sony is not just sitting and idling by and not Expanding playstation software & Services also.
And again, while Microsoft is still trying to put a Pc 💻 under the TV. Sony is putting Sofware and services directly into the smart TV 📺, those smart TV 📺. Sets are not as expensive anymore, and top it off like I pointed out Sony is not just putting those software and Services just on smart TV 📺. Sets. Alone.

Ever notice Sony sold off its PC arm, its PC manufacturing arm. It made. Remote play to
👉 a PC from a Playstation, but not put software and playstation services directly to 👉 a PC.

Its because Sony is not trying to Replace the Living Room Playstation with just a smart TV 📺 or streaming Box. But Sony did want to make sure Playstation was expanded to now include those smart TV 📺 and streaming box's. And Smartphones & Tablets.

The only platform Sony Is Excluding in this expansion and for good reason is the 💻 PC platform. Because Microsoft is trying and have been for years trying to move the PC windows OS platform to be the default platform for computer entertainment in the living room.

Think side loading to Android TV @rainslacker

http://www.stuff.tv/feature...

The fact it's already on Android OS as you stated could be or already have implementation already just not a public release ..yet..LoL

rainslacker3616d ago (Edited 3616d ago )

@343

Actually, Sony has enabled many of it's services on several manufacturers TV's other than it's own. PSNow, among other services are on all new Samsung and LG smart TV's, and some Vizio's have at least one Sony service on it. I'm sure other manufacturers also have some Sony apps on them.

What joerc mentions isn't enabled yet to play games remotely as far as I know, but there's no reason it couldn't be, and it's not a bad idea and would pretty much serve a similar purpose as PSTV.

I think you're underestimating Smart TV's. While it's still not a thing on all TV's, it doesn't take much to enable it on TV's, and going forward, as people become more accustomed to it, smart TV features are likely to be included on even the cheapest TV's to some degree. Joe blow can do a lot of things. But at the same time, how man of them are going to go get one of those auxillery boxes to do the same thing, when they could spend the same amount for a TV with the functionality built in?

Outside of that, MS really doesn't have an option for smart TV's yet, either in the OS, or any app of consequence....if any, since I don't recall them having anything at all. Maybe an XBL app somewhere, but that's just to access one's account.

So what joerc says does have some merit, although he is maybe assuming more will happen than will...but as it stands, MS current place is to put a box under the TV, and integrate their ecosystem among that box, the PC, and limited functionality on mobile devices....which they are losing market share on with their own Windows Mobile OS's. MS isn't really looking at using the TV's to provide their services, so no matter what, a secondary purchase is required for MS services.

Scorpio will be more powerful so that will be my goto console on the future for console games.

Still haven't decided if I am getting a Neo or not as PS4 exclusive games already look good on my current PS4. Might be redundant of getting both. Giving the choice, I'll go with the more powerful console to play the same 99% of the same games.

rainslacker3616d ago

If you're worried about redundancy, why don't you just play the games on the PC you claim to own? The scorpio is redundant if you have a PC, yet you seem to be OK with getting one.

You do use some strange logic to make your arguments.

Christopher3616d ago

Very strange logic if you already own a gaming PC. Especially if, by your own logic, you already play 99% of the games no it now. That wouldn't change with any console.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio31d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing30d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9231d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit30d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing30d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9230d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
