I finished Onimusha many years ago and I remembered it as a fine PS2 game. Since I tend to choose games which have mechanics I am already familiar with I decided to give it another try. After all, it is one of Capcom’s famous productions.
Story: In feudal Japan, a keep is overrun by an army of demons, who kidnap a princess and intend to sacrifice her as part of a pact with a resurrected evil warlord. Samanosuke, a brave swordsman equipped with a magical gauntlet, rushes to save her, accompanied by Kaede, a loyal female ninja. Unfortunately, the story lacks originality, the plot is thin and the ending leaves serious issues unresolved. Journals are scattered around the keep but their information is repeated. At least, the words of the dead, which you hear if you have the appropriate item, are well written.
Cultured Vultures: Capcom's epic samurai series Onimusha has been on hiatus for the better part of 15 years. We're asking if it'll ever come back.
Nope, and Capcom tested the waters with Onimusha HD and nobody bought it. So, yea, we effectively killed the Onimusha franchise by not buying the game.
not true because i remember in that leaked capcom document of all their future projects "onimusha new work" was one of the titles listed.
The HD remake had a music problem due to the controversy with the original composer and replacing his music with meh music. Maybe that affected sales.
But an Onimusha game of the quality of recent capcom games (RE2,DMC5) would definitely be welcomed by everyone and the sales of Ghost of tsushima will hopefully push Capcom to give the franchise another try.
It wasn't a remake though, it was a remaster, and they could have done a better job on it, but it was good playing through it for old times sake.
Now, if they made a full remake, that would be awesome.

We didn’t kill it by not picking up an old ass game with hardly any quality of life updates. That game was absolutely amazing for its time, but it’s capcom’s own fault for such a lame remaster. You want interest from old fans or new fans, you gotta come with something that doesn’t look and feel 3 generations old.
LOL....the reason we will not see another Onimusha game is not because they put out a dopey HD version of an antiquated game on current gen. The reason we will not see it is the same reason we have not seen a new Dino Crisis, Okami, Strider, Viewtiful Joe, Bionic Commando, etc. Its the same reason everytime.

Ghost of Tsushima filled that void for me, and then some. I don't see Capcom reaching this level of quality for a single-player game.
Ghost of Tsushima nor Nioh is nothing like the Onimusha franchise. Onimusha is unique compared to GOT.

Nioh story telling - not so much (4/10)
Nioh story is garbage tbh. plus i don't care for the characthers of that series unlike onimusha which had much better writing and characters.

Onimusha was a great franchise. I wish they'd relaunch the franchise with a next gen entry. Until then though, I guess Sekiro is more than capable of filling the gap left by Onimusha.
Excellent game and I'm pissed we won't get a port of 2, 3, and Dawn of Dreams so I can get the platinum on them!
As part of the latest Capcom leaks, sales data for Okami HD was disclosed. Figures for each platform were revealed, which showed that the Switch version sold the best. More Capcom sales information has since leaked for three other releases: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, Dragon’s Dogma, and Onimusha: Warlords’ HD version.
