Why Resident Evil 7 is set from a first-person viewpoint

Capcom delves into its reasoning for shifting perspectives in Resident Evil 7.

Gaming_Cousin3619d ago (Edited 3619d ago )

Honestly I would play a Resident Evil based purely off of the demo than the crappy Resident Evil 6 that came out

suli123453619d ago

4 5 6 7 8 and 9 are shitty, and gonna be shit. Nothing will ever beat 1 2 and 3. Good luck enjoying this piece of crap

affrogamer3618d ago

RE 4 is shitty???? LOL It's the best one in the series imho

jessionpc3618d ago

Are you certain?... Isn't it just because it was some of the first quality horror titles in the world, and because of it's nostalgia to you?... And NOT because 1 2 and 3 are the best?... Because I think THAT'S how it is. Don't get me wrong, in the RE series, so far there isn't much to compare except for Zero and 4, as 5 and 6 were abominations of mankind. But still, to doom the future of the franchise is silly, look how car COD got and it's still the top selling dudebro shooter.

They were great for their time, but they are the past and much better can be done now. I admit, it's an extreme twist from the formula, and it may very well suck HARD, but while making fun of it at LEAST give it the 2nd look when it comes out, if not you may end up just hurtin yourself if it's good and your pride keeps you away.

PurpHerbison3618d ago

4 isn't shitty, just the first step in the wrong direction.

suli123453618d ago

@everyone. Resident evil 4 was HIV..... AIDS was everything that came and will come after it. Resident evil 2 remake will be the last great resident evil.

To run after P.Ts success and cash in on it while throwing away the roots of the RE franchise.

Not that hard to understand why they went first person after how popular P.T was. Capcom like chasing success stories, not actually doing their own thing.

Resident Evil 5 and 6 - Chasing action games like Call of Duty

Resident Evil 7 - Chasing walking simulator horror games like P.T

Guess we still have the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I guess Capcom will see, if they do it right, how much popular that game will be.

Lon3wolf3618d ago

Why does everyone immediately say PT when there were other first person horror games already released before the PT demo?

-Foxtrot3618d ago

Because P.T was the one to make a shit load of noise and buzz on the internet...that draws in an audience and where there is an audience there is money.

That's what Capcom knows and that's why they are doing it

Lon3wolf3618d ago (Edited 3618d ago )

Outlast did well enough, but yeah PT did garner more interest but was that due to Kojima rather than being a first person horror?

-Foxtrot3618d ago

Exactly. Outlast was there, it did well but when you are up against Kojima, with a demo such as P.T actually being a teaser for a new Silent Hills you can't complete against that hype wise

Capcom saw that space left open and decided to cash in on it while forgetting a franchises roots in the process.

Austin483618d ago

Actually Resident Evil 7 was in development before the teaser released also developenent started on Resident Evil 7 in February 2014 mayby u should know your information before posting it js.

CIA_BOSS3618d ago

Rhezin3618d ago

1st person? Oh it was eventually going to go this way anyway. It all stemmed from the release of RE 4 when it went from survival horror to action horror shooter. Capcom just loves to take dumps on their franchises. R.I.P. Resident Evil.

jessionpc3618d ago

Because it's the best perspective for horror. <-- Fact.

3rd person is the next best, but unless it's controls are difficult and work against you, the horror doesn't really show through.

But crawling up to a corner and leaning left to see something scary is in a league of it's own. And now it's PSVR.

Prepare to baby wipe.

Game came out in 2017 . I expect the newer console to at least match or be better than the older ones .

Snookies1286d ago (Edited 86d ago )

It's still a great looking game though. Just because it came out years ago doesn't mean it's not demanding. I just started playing it on PC and with maxed out graphics. It really holds up well to current games.

Stevonidas86d ago

PS4 PSU = 250 watts (base model)
PS5 PSU = 220 watts
Switch 2 = 22 watts (docked)

Crazy efficiency from Switch 2.

Deathdeliverer86d ago

I don’t know who keeps posting this guy. The switch does NOT match the PS5 performance. Please put digital foundry vids instead. It beats series S visually. The beginning of the video shows the car hood example. The upscaler is pixelated as hell on switch but smooth, but less detailed on PS4 and not even on PS5s league. That’s the upscaler trying to make 540p look higher res. I really don’t understand the reasoning for the gas lighting.

Neonridr86d ago (Edited 86d ago )

what are you even talking about? where do you get 540p? The game is rendering at 1080p and then upscaling to 4k on the TV.

are you somehow confusing this analysis with Requiem?

repsahj86d ago

Even if it comes from 240p, I don't have a problem with it. What matters is the end result. RE7, 8, and 9 are very detailed on the Switch 2 in docked and handheld mode.

Neonridr86d ago

it says on the video 4k from a base 1080p. Where do you get 540p from?

Benjaminkno84d ago

He’s referring to “native” output and ignoring the upscaling. 90% of these nintendon’ts clamored for a “better performing switch” only to pretend it’s not what they asked for. If they were to play this game without seeing hair, they couldn’t tell the difference.

Neonridr83d ago

@Benjaminkno - I think this person is thinking of Requiem, which was using a base 540p. Clearly they can't read.

Well at least there are games like angry birds or clash of clans for mobile gamers :-)

Cacabunga678d ago

Good it flopped.. they must have realized that the target audience is totally different

ABizzel1678d ago

This is a win for gaming even if it’s not an ideal experience on iPhone yet:

1. It’s a huge step forward for mobile gaming showing in the next 2 - 4 years this will be a solid 720p@30fps experience for AA / AAA PS4-PS5 quality games on a device we carry with us everywhere.

2. It’s a huge step forward for Apple gaming in general which has been underwhelming for years running NATIVELY and flawlessly on any M2 / M3 / M4 iPad and MacBook. At worst 900p@60fps Medium-High Settings + Metal on the M2 iPad, 1440p@60 - 80fps Max settings on the M3 Pro Max which is equivalent to a RTX 4060 / RX 6700XT, so slightly above console settings…..but in a $3000 - $4000 laptop (Apple and they’re ridiculous prices).

3. But most important for all of us, it shows what the future of mobile platforms like the Switch 2 will be capable of and ports like RE7, RE Village, and RE4 Remake should be lined up for the Switch 2, optimized even more for mobile PC like SteamDeck / ROG, and eventually Android based platforms.

OtterX679d ago

Who the hell would want to play this on a phone?

ABizzel1678d ago

The iPhone version won’t be good for another 2 years (iPhone 18) or so when they have their next fabrication node (2nm), so they can hopefully improve the CPU cores (AA/AAA games will need 3 or 4 performance cores instead of 2), add 2 more GPU cores, and improve memory bandwidth with LPDDR6.

Then it should be a stable 720p - 900p resolution, @ locked 30fps, Medium-High Settings, with better Type-C out for larger displays.

KwietStorm_BLM679d ago

Apple users ain't gamers. I don't know whether this push with "metal" was just to say they did it and it's possible to run modern games, or if Capcom just said hey more units is better, but either way this shouldn't be all that surprising.

ChasterMies678d ago

You say that but everyime I’m waiting for one of my kids’ events to start, I see an audience full of kids playing games on phones. No Nintendos. Just phones. Lots of Minecraft. Lots of Clash of Clans style games.

jwillj2k4678d ago

Roblox as well. Gigantic mega platform. Kids can’t get enough of it. Sony/Nintendo would be wise to integrate more with their platform as kids get older.

KwietStorm_BLM678d ago

Playing clash of clans doesn't make you a *gamer.* Most mobile games are designed to literally be time wasters and money pits. They're for casuals who don't actually have a gaming platform. Kids on phones today is just a symptom of the modern era. Doesn't mean gaming is what they're really into, as proven by those sales numbers.

Goodguy01679d ago (Edited 679d ago )

Mobile gamers only want simple games and gachas. Nobody wants to pay up front for a mobile game, you have to hide it behind micro transactions lol.

Androids hardware is so fragmented

Sgt_Slaughter678d ago (Edited 678d ago )

But has enough models that outpace the iPhone that it would be a much better showcase of how AAA games could run on mobile. Not to mention the entire east Asian mobile market.
