Telltale's New Game Engine Still Has Old Problems

Ben Eberle, Senior Editor for Gamer Professionals, writes:

"The upcoming Batman is said to be running on a new engine, aiming to make their games run more smoothly from this point forward. At this year’s E3, I had an opportunity to view a behind-closed-doors presentation of the game’s first 30 minutes. While I found the game’s story to be intriguing overall, I unfortunately noticed many familiar engine hiccups."

The real platform to enjoy every games from Telltalle

I really don't get why they don't just use Unity. UE4 has royalties so maybe that's why they don't go with that, but Unity is royalty-free. It does cost a small subscription fee, but that's nowhere near as expensive as developing and maintaining your own engine

Plus, its technical capabilities are way above what Telltale games usually require. Granted you don't make games like Uncharted with Unity, but narrative games like this would be just fine

Hopefully they'll make the investment soon. I just bought the all the game of thrones episodes for the wife the other night, watched her play episode one and was pretty put off by how nothing has apparently changed with the engine since the Jurassic Park game. Hell, if it works, what do I know lol.

I missed this game first time around, I've heard nothing but good things about it since.

Now that it's been updated I see no reason not to jump in over the holidays - thanks for sharing Neil.

I played both and they are truly great games. I'm sure you'll love the twisting stories too.

Thanks Zeke! Downloading now :)

I love Telltale games and haven't played Batman as yet - so will be great to get this one!
Will probably end up playing Wolf Among Us and Borderlands Telltale again over the holidays.
