Inside Review - IGN

Inside very clearly builds upon what made Limbo great, and in fact builds something greater. Play it soon before anyone spoils a single big moment for you.

YinYangGaming3519d ago

Ryan tweeted "I've never given a 10 while at @IGN. Until now." Day one buy for me tomorrow

freshslicepizza3519d ago

looks fantastic, i suggest people dont read too much about the game and go into it blindly.

Filmicfps3519d ago

Why are people disagreeing??

darthv723519d ago

Wow, this game looks simply amazing in its simplicity and depth. i loved limbo and I'm sure i will love this one.

IamTylerDurden13519d ago

I'll play it next week on PC or on PS4 in a few months. I knew it would be good, but with Uncharted 4, Zero Time Dilemma, God Eater 2, Alienation DLC, then No Man's Sky in August, Gravity Rush 2, GT Sport, Nioh, Nier, and PSVR i can afford to wait.

@ying

It's $19 in the xbox store and it's about 2.3gigs. I decided to preorder after watching the first few seconds of the 9 min E3 gameplay.will download once I get home.

@moldy

You are right. Can't wait to start my playthrough tomorrow.

YinYangGaming3519d ago

I'm going to preorder now and hope that it unlocks asap for me in the UK! I've seen 2 trailers but I've avoided gameplay to keep it a mystery, can't wait to start this now.

lelo2play3519d ago

Dam... Steam version still a week away.

Limbo was great. Inside looks better.

Testfire3519d ago

I didn't even know about this game. It's an awesome surprise for sure. I guess that's why they were giving away Limbo for a free download on Steam the other day. My wallet is hurting from the summer sale though.

ShadowKnight3519d ago (Edited 3519d ago )

Can you pre-order it on Steam or Windows 10 yet?

IanTH3519d ago

@ShadowKnight Yes, it is purchaseable for $19.99 on Steam and will unlock on the 7th.

IamTylerDurden13519d ago

Great indies so far this yr

Salt n Sanctuary

Firewatch

The Witness

Enter the Gungeon

Alienation

Now Inside enters the pantheon.

Be getting it on steam in a weeks time, I for one am glad MS have made games Microsfot exclusive instead of XB1 exclusive, means having my PC and a PS4 is covering all bases and sold my XB1 to reinvest the money.

YinYangGaming3519d ago

I'm glad but not because I feel it weakens my purchase but rather strengthens it. Buy one copy and own it on both? I'm on board every time with something that offers better value and choice for consumers

IanTH3519d ago

Another PC/Consoler like myself! I agree to an extent. I really like owning tech, but it needs to serve a purpose. When MS announced all titles going PC, it put the dagger through the heart of my One. Bit miffed this is the first XBOX I bought during its opening years only to have this happen. I guess I might resell it, but when you see deals like the other day when you could get a brand new 1TB XBOX with Kinect and 3 games for $220 bucks...well, I can't imagine how much I'd get for my used one. It may just end up being my Halo Remastered/FH2/Sunset Overdrive machine...ouch :-p

vegasgamerdawg3519d ago

Do you have a point? No, I didn't think so. MS thanks you for your support.

IanTH3519d ago (Edited 3519d ago )

@vegas "Do you have a point? MS thanks you for your support". I'm glad to give it to them, though with most of these games they are available outside the MS Store and so MS might not get my support. If they kept games on XBOX, my console would have a use and they would ensure they got my money.

I'm not arguing against MS. I like MS just fine, but I don't like when guys like Spencer say games like Crackdown, Scalebound, QB etc are staying Console exclusive because the push to PC was "too late in the cycle" only to find out he clearly was full of it. I made a purchasing decision based on that and I was burned for it. I struggle to believe the head of XBOX said that at the end of 2015 not knowing things were brewing given the announcement early/mid 2016 that they were now magically on PC too.

So that is the only grudge I have with MS, so to speak. A good game is a good game. If that game is only on the MS store & I want to play it I'll support them and buy it. But the One - for MY NEEDS (and the needs of people similar to me like iDadio) - is useless. That's all my point is. A PC gamer who also plays consoles doesn't have a reason to own an XBOX. MS removed its usefulness.

It is, otherwise, a great console. My PS4 & Wii U have, and are getting, exclusives I can't play on my PC and thus they hold value for me. Not so with my XBOX anymore - no animosity here, just disappointment. I'm not sure why a lot of people seem to take "it doesn't hold value for me anymore" is implying that anyone who says it actually means something like "the One is a garbage, useless console for everyone and no one should buy it and also death to MS!"

starchild3519d ago

@instantstupor

I understand where you're coming from, but isn't it a good thing Microsoft isn't forcing people like us to buy a piece of hardware just to play their exclusives?

I mean, I understand you bought an XB1 already, but I still think it's a better turn of events overall. You can always sell your XB1 or use it as a secondary gaming device for another room. Especially now with the "play anywhere" program.

Personally, I thought we already figured out as PC gamers that many Xbox exclusives could be played on PC. That's been going on since the first Xbox. I personally went with the PS4 this generation because I knew it would have more games I wanted to play that weren't on the PC. I'm happy that Microsoft now is giving full support to their Windows platform.

And the truth is, there are tens of millions of people that prefer to game on consoles for one reason or another, so I think the Xbox will be just fine. I believe that the Scorpio and Neo upgrades may even entice some PC gamers to give up PC and go full console. All in all PC has gotten stronger as a platform, but so have the consoles. So it's hard to completely predict how this will all shake out. I suspect, though, that the overall PC and console userbases won't change dramatically.

It's true that the Xbox guys are a little sensitive when people talk about playing Microsoft exclusives on PC, but can you completely blame them? When you or I say it we don't mean "the One is a garbage, useless console for everyone and no one should buy it and also death to MS!", but a lot of fanboys on the internet do mean exactly that. In fact, most of those people aren't actually PC gamers in the first place. They're just using the PC as a way to attack the other console.

IamTylerDurden13519d ago (Edited 3519d ago )

Yea, i love crossbuy games. I've been enjoying it on games like Helldivers, Axiom Verge, Dead Nation, Resogun, Dragons Crown, Hotline Miami, Oddworld New n Tasty, Guacemelee, Sly Cooper Thieves in Time, Sound Shapes for years. It's nice to be able to grind Torgue Tokens in Borderlands 2 on my VITA on the go, then come home and continue playing on console. Granted, ms doesn't have a handheld, but at least they are giving more value.

Erik73573519d ago

Keltech3519d ago (Edited 3519d ago )

Do you mean Ryan McCaffrey?, the biggest Xbox fanboy employed by IGN (a neutral media)ha ha ha!. I personally wouldn't listen to what this douche has to say.

Caedus5113519d ago

Strange how the "biggest xbox fanboy" doesn't give all Xbox exclusives 10's.

He must have journalistic integrity.

starchild3519d ago

There are plenty of Sony fanboys in the media too.

I personally don't put much stock in review scores. I read a variety of different reviews to be able to read between the lines and figure out whether I'll like a game, but I don't care about the overall subjective judgement or assigning of scores.

FlameBaitGod3519d ago

They should add the PC tag because its on PC too.

Shubhendu_Singh3519d ago

LIMBO is still perhaps one of my favorite indie game yet.
Can't wait to play INSIDE.

maybelovehate3519d ago

Same here. One of my favorite games of all time. So excited to play Inside

Null19803519d ago (Edited 3519d ago )

Wow, a 10? I wasn't even aware of a Limbo followup coming so soon. Not on PS4 though. (at least for now) Looks like it's PC for me!

Edit- Lol @ the downvotes. Does it really bother you that I'm going to get it on PC 1 week later? We all get to enjoy this masterpiece. That's what matters.

YinYangGaming3519d ago

Yep PC is only a week or so away and i imagine it'll make its way to PS4 after a few months or so

Nintendo4Lifex3519d ago

I Could be dead in a few months for all I know. O and, is this confirmed?

Hoffmann3519d ago

Just everything here gets a couple of downvotes due to angry fanboys. But its really bad when it comes to the PC "vs" Xbox discussions.

jessionpc3519d ago

Lol man your so right, I don't even see the Xbot defense force attacking Sony articles lately, they are ALL holding the line and barring the gates against the, "Why even buy an xbox anymore", articles.

sammarshall1023519d ago

It's worse when people pretend they have powerful PC's

Cartman551253519d ago

I'm pretty sure its PS4 fanboys downvoting everything. Xbox fanboys are more vocal with their disagreements.

ShadowKnight3519d ago

@Hoffmann When I say "I can't wait to play it on Windows 10" I get PM messages from Xbox fanboys saying all kind of weird things. Its so bad I could report them and have them banned but I don't worry or care about things like that lol. Microsoft is still getting my purchase if I buy it on Windows 10 😅

kevnb3519d ago

people cant handle that the PC simply has the best overall library of games

myopt3519d ago (Edited 3519d ago )

best overall? so to fuck with uncharted 4 93 and bloodborne's 92 metas ha? considering that the ps4 has all the AAA multiplats and the best exlcusives, overall, the ps4 has the best library of games, psnow too

kevnb3519d ago

yes the ps4 has some good exclusives, but its still missing a lot of games the pc has. ori and the blind forest, rise of the tomb raider (ps4 will get it eventually I know), total war warhammer, undertale, Pillars of Eternity, StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void, Homeworld Remastered Collection, Heroes of the Storm, Cities: Skylines, xcom 2 (still exclusive for now), and stardew valley. All highly rated games that have come out between 2015 and now.

ShadowKnight3519d ago (Edited 3519d ago )

Xcom 2 is amazing

The 10th Rider3519d ago

Not to mention PC's insurmountable backlog of fantastic games. PC has dozens of older games above 92, all still playable today, and you don't need a killer PC to run them.

darx3519d ago

myopt...yes PC has the best library oh and biggest and the most variety. Hop off of Sony's dork!

starchild3519d ago (Edited 3519d ago )

@myopt

The PS4 doesn't get all the games the PC does. Not even close. There are many games I can play on my PC that I can't play on my PS4. Yes, the PS4 has some great exclusives, but I don't feel like there has been that many of them so far.

The PC gets an incredible amount of games each year, from pure PC exclusives to Microsoft exclusives to the many games it shares with PS4. Like all the games kevnb mentioned (and many more), plus all the Microsoft exclusives (Quantum Break, Ori and the Blind Forest, Gears of War Ultimate, Gears of War 4, Fable, Sea of Thieves, Forza, Killer Instinct, ReCore, Scalebound, etc.) and then all the exclusives shared with PS4 (Hellblade, Firewatch, Street Fighter V, Planetside 2, The Witness, SOMA, Shenmue 3, No Man's Sky, Kingdom Under Fire 2, Salt and Sanctuary, etc.) There's no other platform where you can play all those games.

mixelon3519d ago

@myopt - of course PC has the "best" overall, it has the advantage of decades of games in its library.

If you tastes skew toward recent 3rd person action games consoles do well, but PC has more variety.

Ceaser98573613519d ago

agreed PC has the biggest game library yet i see them signing petitions for PS exclusives to release on PC... lmao!! the Quality on the PS4 is amazing, could have said the same for Xbox but now every xbox exclusives will show up on Win 10...

Just curious that's all. No bubbles on the line anymore. But since you don't care, I'll start you off with one. Here yo go. You're welcome.

But on topic: that's great that Playdead gets a wider audience. Sometimes these indie releases can mean make or break for them, so it's good that they have a greater chance at success in the long run.

game4funz3519d ago

People were probably down voting for the obvious jab. No one is actually bothered.

bixxel3519d ago

Is it only Win 10 or WIn 7?

HighlyDoubtful3519d ago

Take another disagree for crying like a baby about internet points. Get over yourself. Thanks! ;-)

starchild3519d ago

The only thing weird to me about your comment is, if you really did have a gaming PC wouldn't you be playing this game on your PC anyway and not waiting to play it on PS4?

I see this kind of thing so much and it makes zero sense to me. Why would you be wanting to play an inferior version on a platform that doesn't have backwards compatibility when you can play the version that allows for better framerates, more flexibility, more quality and backwards compatibility? In other words, why do you make it sound like PS4 was your first choice, but you'll settle for the PC version?

The fact that you needlessly bring up the PS4 makes it seem like your comment really has some fanboy intent behind it. A normal PC gamer just excited for the game wouldn't be doing that.

The game is available to more people, which is GOOD for gamers. MS are such jerks.

oSHINSAo3519d ago

I guess you are going to get it for Linux, or maybe Mac OS...

sho0ok3519d ago

That's exactly what some people is not getting. It is win win situation, where us and them both profit. However they just jump on the bandwagon of hating on MS.

Livecustoms3519d ago (Edited 3519d ago )

@Tedakin You do realise all companies do this ? It's called business they want to try to lure you to their system. Stop crying and grow up like seriously 'jerks' how old are you.

liran3519d ago

This is why people hate Microsoft. why week after XB1 it's coming to PC?

Lennoxb633519d ago

Is it the same reason people hate Sony? Cause they do the same thing. lol

Hoffmann3519d ago

Because I can buy it on PC if i think its worth it and don't have to buy a second console.

bleedsoe9mm3519d ago

and as phil said its ms stance that they don't care , and thanks for playing their games

TheGreatObserver3519d ago

So bleedsoe9mm MS now makes money from Steam released games? That's odd

freshslicepizza3519d ago

so sony is in the business of making their games avilable to everyone and no game or dlc is ever timed exclusive? cool! this game looks terrific, if you dont want it on xbox then wait a week for the pc. i imagine in 6 months to a year it will also be on the ps4.

TheGreatObserver3519d ago

Thanks. I can wait a year. Got plenty to play as it is now on ps4

sammarshall1023519d ago

I'd hate to have to wait to play awesome games like this and Rise of the Tomb Raider

Livecustoms3519d ago

But Sony and Nintendo both do exclusive deals, so when Microsoft does it why do people hate ?

shuvam093519d ago (Edited 3519d ago )

I will try to explain the Indie situation and why ID@XBox has received such backlash overtime...
First of all, most Indies are not funded by any company...
Now ID@XBox has a policy that indies must be released day and date with other console versions...
Most indie studios only have enough manpower to work on only one version, let alone two of them...
So, for most indie devs, it just not possible to do concurrent releases at the same time...
Which is why they choose PS4 bcoz:
1. They don't have a policy similar to ID@XBox
2. Given a larger userbase, it makes sense to go for PS4 first

However, when devs realize that their game didn't make much profit on a larger platform, they decide not to release on another platform, which is why games like SOMA are still console exclusive to PS4...
Others like Rocket League, The Witness etc. made enough profit to go multiplat later on...
And that is why games like Inside & Superhot still have the chance of coming to PS4...

PS: Just realized Indies and Inside are anagrams :P

Rhythmattic3519d ago

shuvam09
Interesting that now MS considerer Win10 as its platform, I wonder if those same conditions apply?
Afterall, the PC gaming market stomps the console market.... Maybe we are going to see more first timed releases on Xbox.. oh, hang on make that an MS platform, oh wait, make that a win 10 Device......Make that MS timed exclusive thats available on Steam.

_-EDMIX-_3519d ago

A deal the team never actually needed to make.

Don't blame MS for being a business bud. The team likely didn't have the funding for some of the game and made a deal to have it timed on XONE for a bit before PC and PS4. Not all developers have bankrolls like EA, Ubisoft and Activision bud.

Even they didn't make much Wii U games if they saw they were not getting money. So please, put to rest this stupid, childish, immature multiplatform by default ideal.

Multiplatform is a luxury bud, it isn't a right or even the norm. No all can afford to just be on 7 platforms day 1.

Games That Took An Absolutely Bizzare Turn In Their Narrative

Some titles out there focus on introducing a bizarre turn in their narrative. Check out this list for some solid recommendations for those.

Inverno594d ago

"INSIDE" was bloody amazing, and I miss Uncharted's sci-fi and paranormal aspects greatly.

TricksterArrow594d ago (Edited 594d ago )

TBH, 3 and 4 still have them, but they are heavily implied, which can be terrifying the more you think about it, but it is admittedly, much less scary and less interesting gameplay-wise than what 1 and 2 have done.

Inverno593d ago

U3 did show the Jinn's "bottle" in the end and the city was pretty f-ing dope. Just a little disappointing that they didn't lean just a bit more on the mythical parts of the series. Uncharted is a world rooted in reality and Drake knowing all these mythical stuff exists could've led into something cool.

porkChop594d ago

I remember being particularly confused by the twist in LA Noire where Cole Phelps is sort of "exposed". If you've played it you know what I'm talking about. It always felt weird and odd because the player is Cole Phelps. How can the player not know about these sorts of things happening with their own character? I felt like it came out of nowhere.

Yui_Suzumiya594d ago

Soma, Doki Doki Literature Club, Saya no Uta

UnbreakableAlex593d ago

Is Twelve Minutes on that list? Because IT HAS TO BE ON THAT LIST!
Don’t spoiler yourself with that humongous twist :D

Inside came to Xbox thanks to a phone call from Phil Spencer

The Xbox CEO's personal intervention led to a exclusivity deal with Microsoft, reveals Playdead co-founder Dino Patti.

ApocalypseShadow920d ago

You mean this guy that put one of his games on gamer pass and says it hurts sales:

https://videogames.si.com/f...

“We did a pretty good deal,” Patti says. “I also think it hurts sales. Because a lot of people just go in and try it and they don't invest. If they don't like the first 10 minutes? That’s it. Also, if you don't make the first 10 minutes amazing, maybe it's also a problem. I think [Game Pass] is okay. It's not my favorite. My favorite is the old premium model where I sell you on some video, on big images, and earn your $30. And then after that, I have to deliver. I don’t need to get money out of you later.”

He and his partner were smart in the fact to tell Sony shit no in owning the IP of Limbo. As for Inside, it's a great game. Music, atmosphere, everything is on point. Xbox got some time exclusivity. And Phil threw money at it. Luckily it wasn't permanent in that I wouldn't have been able to play it. Probably sold more on PlayStation though. But Play Dead sure knew how to make simple but fun side scroller games with puzzles in them. I would buy the next game like those. And knowing the guy, he would want me to buy his next game and earn his money that way.

coolbeans920d ago

You have an uncanny ability to turn little one-off stories into a tangential spiel with no ultimate purpose. What's anyone expected to get out of this?

"Did you know a developer who got a timed exclusivity deal with MS *ISN'T* a fan of a service that came out years later?"

I mean... okay? I guess the original story about Nice Guy Phil has been negated now or something?

PapaBop917d ago (Edited 917d ago )

"You have an uncanny ability to turn little one-off stories into a tangential spiel with no ultimate purpose."

He probably learned that from MS.

ChasterMies919d ago

“Not only was Microsoft responsible for much of the game's marketing at various trade shows and conventions, but the timed exclusivity was kept very brief, as the PS4 version of Inside was released just a few months after its debut on Xbox One.”

A lot of folks think these deals are all about cash payments, but often the consideration is marketing. My guess is that this will be less so on Xbox now that Microsoft has all those studios to market.

TricksterArrow918d ago

Plus, hasn't Inside sold more on PS than Xbox? Major win for the developers.

__SteakDeck__918d ago (Edited 918d ago )

So Phil did what he was complaining in court that Sony was doing. Lol

-Foxtrot918d ago

He’s one of the biggest hypocrites in the industry…of course

Outside_ofthe_Box918d ago

Phil is such an 'aggressive competitor'.

rippermcrip918d ago

Headline acts like this game was never coming to Xbox. Not true. It was going to be probably a 1 year exclusive to Sony. Spencer probably gave them the same money to make it 3 months for Microsoft instead.

Flakegriffin918d ago

So he did his job?

Congrats? 😂
