Titanfall 2’s Release Date Is Concerning

Informed Pixel's Skyler discusses why Titanfall 2's release date may cause some problems

"Gamers can no longer justify purchasing two shooters in the span of a week, forcing many to choose one over the other."

What kind of logic is that? Does choosing Battlefield over the Titanfall 2 forever eliminate the Titanfall 2 from being bought? Is someone holding a gun to our heads to buy every game day 1?

How does moving the release to November/December change anything. Why don't you just buy one in October, and buy the other in December, regardless of their release dates? They really have to change release dates because you don't have enough self control make purchases according to your budget and time.

Just because "some" people have the money and time to buy both games, doesn't mean the majority will.
Release date does matter and impact sales.
Rise of Tomb Raider being entirely different genre from Fallout 4, but still flopped
Same with BattleBorn and OverWatch
People are too blind to see it.

You are not understanding what I'm saying. Rise of the Tomb Raider didn't flop because of Fallout 4, those are two independent sales. There is no data to support that it was only due to Fallout 4 releasing alongside it. Yes Fallout 4 must have taken away sales from it, but so did every other game that came out during that time, Black ops 3, Battlefront, Assassin's creed, Halo 5, etc. All these games came out around the same time and competed with each other. Tomb Raider suffered because it didn't have multiplayer, was only on one platform, and came out at the most crowded time of the year.

If they released it in a different quarter like March 2016 instead of November 2015, then yes it would have made some kind of a difference. But shifting a month or two doesn't change much, those who want it will buy it sooner or later. Basically what I'm trying to say is if Battlefield is going to take away sales from Titanfall 2 (which is likely), then pushing Titanfall 2 a month isn't going to make much of a difference, it's still going to face the same competition. Pushing it to early 2017 may make a difference though, but then they will lose out holiday season which is when consumer spending is highest, so it's a trade off regardless. If I don't buy it in October because of battlefield, and buy it in December, they still get the sale.

This is business. You need to understand it from THAT point of view. There are months out of the year that they WILL sell less, and release schedules around much bigger games that will significantly hurt their sales.

Maybe in the end they could recover sales if they launched near BF1, but it would be at a heavy discount. 10x better to release a game like TF2 when no other big shooters are released. That is fact.

Proof is in the pudding, even WE can google release date charts and see systematically how game sales fall after the first week, or suffer when there is release competition.

It's fact. It can't be debated. And if people try, they are retarded, trying to win an argument for the sake of winning some random argument without knowing anything about what they're talking about based on what they want to believe and not the real world.

I'm sure EA which is a BUSINESS, know this fact a lot better than any of us. In fact, that is probably the single most important thing to them. They are choosing to release their own 2 games together, which they have complete control over, so I am sure they have accounted for this factor thoroughly and know what they are doing.

"10x better to release a game like TF2 when no other big shooters are released."
Sure and that was never being argued. But this would mean early 2017.

My only irritation is with the author assuming some arbitrary rule that if a gamer doesn't buy Titanfall 2 day 1, the sale is lost. That doesn't make sense.

Well it'll just be delayed to 2017

Kornholic3597d ago

I don't have to justify shit. I'm buying them both.

Dirtnapstor3597d ago

Right on, and you budget now knowing what's coming down the pipe. Common sense to me. If someone really what's something, they'll find a way.

Yukonsbud3597d ago

I'd like for them to come out on the same day :)

N83595d ago

Hell yeah. I'm buying them both anyway. Let's just get them out of the way.

I agree with this. The time travel mechanics. The sense of scale. The relationship with your mech. The bosses all had personalities. It's a wonderful game.

Yeah it was good, but it only did the time travel bit in one level. Dishonered 2 did the same thing. Now how about a game where it's implemented throughout the gameplay? Singularity says Hello (and deserves so much more recognition).

Never say never, I really didn't expect to ever see Space Marine 2 and 12 years later its almost here.
So there is still hope for all these games.

I've completed 5 of the games on the list, but the author forgot to include Advent Rising. It was supposed to be a trilogy, but it bombed hard, and the two sequels never got made. It was Mass Effect, a console generation before Mass Effect.

The game is buggy and unpolished, it needed a few more months of development, but the potential was there. At the end of the game, you have all these super abilities, I remember the stomp attack that created a shockwave being especially powerful.

I personally think days gone will recieve some sort of sequel at some point. I'm personally also hoping it's not the rumored multiplayer online stuff. I'd think most that enjoyed it would rather thisnto.

Knightofelemia809d ago

Sony needs to dust off Sly Cooper and Days Gone so needs a sequel two of my favorite Sony titles. Bulletstorm I love great game wish it also got a sequel. And I wish Namco would finally give Enslaved a sequel another great game.
