The writers heart's in the right place, but he seriously needs to do his research. If you're going to talk about Nintendo and VR you really need to look at the Virtual Boy, not the wiiu... sure iit was a commercial failure but it was also the worlds first commercial VR device made 20 years ago,.

He makes a good point, though, in that the current form of VR isn't really true VR.
Real VR wouldn't require peripherals like motion controllers or a game pad to interact with it; it would just be a virtual environment that we could physically interact with. No controllers needed.

I don't think we're going to see that any time soon.

wonderfulmonkeyman3615d ago (Edited 3615d ago )

I don't disagree with that; I think we're all aware that it's quite a ways off.
In fact, I've made the same point myself multiple times; I firmly believe that the current form of VR is just a stepping-stone towards the real thing; full dive synaptic-response virtual reality.
His point still stands, though.

The Virtual Boy was more of a 3D experience than a VR as it was a fixed perspective. Both WiiU and 3DS are arguably closer to VR because perspective could be moved more naturally to where you looked, though not by your head. (think AR games and WiiU games and apps where you move the device to view around. Of course they aren't true VR unless you somehow strap them to your head ala Samsung Gear...how long before someone straps a gamepad to their head?

This article is terrible. There's absolutely no correlation between the Wii U's gamepad and VR headsets.

The author just went full Nintendo fanboy.

Symbolic WTF and NO.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted
