Why ReCore is a $40 Game

Microsoft wants to test the waters, it seems.

Overload3616d ago

It's a smart idea, like Sony did with Ratchet.

poppinslops3616d ago

Like they should be doing with No Man's Sky... right?

KiwiViper853616d ago

Agreed.

I'm sold on ReCore at that price. Hopefully I can finish it before FH3 launches, otherwise it'll be shelved for a solid few months, haha

Ra30303616d ago

Me thinks No Man Sky will have a lifetime of gameplay well worth $60. These games with 6, 8, 10 hr play time should be sold at a lower price, lower than $40 IMO. I thinks this price point for Microsoft is a lesson learned from Quantum Break the last single player, short play through game they released that did not sell so well for them that had the $60 price point. $40 for Recore is a good move. On the other hand No Man's Sky will hold its own at the $60 price or whatever price they sell it for.

PizzaSteve3616d ago

The Last Guardian too. Gonna get it but not at $60.

poppinslops3616d ago (Edited 3616d ago )

@Ra: Thanks - for a second there I thought price should be reflective of a game's development costs, so it's a relief to hear that hopes and dreams are the determining factor... sa-sa-sa-sa-SARCASM!!!

jb2273616d ago

@poppin

As smug as you sound, I assume you have hard data on exactly how much it has cost to develop No Man's Sky? Let's hear it...if you feel so confident calling it a budget title then you must have plain evidence to back that up...

Just because Hello Games is a small team, that doesn't mean their budget is miniscule. Sony is helping to back this game so I'd assume there's been a decent amount spent on advertising alone at this point, much less the game itself.

More than anything, it's a quality proposition. If you base your spending on the size of budgets then I feel for you. I've felt more burned by big budget AAA $60 retail fare than any other form. I've had more fun w/ $10 titles than many $60 ones. Effort & creativity is something you can't put a price tag on. Devs have wasted millions to make garbage heaps, doesn't mean they deserve that full price any more than more talented cats that spent less & ended up with so much more.

Bottom line is you have no idea what NMS value proposition is, and as someone who obviously won't be picking it up until it hits Xbox anyway, I'm not sure your opinion on this subject somehow matters more than the large group of people happy to pay full price for a potentially great game.

Aenea3616d ago

Sony is not publishing NMS, they are distributing it, so they do not set the price, Hello Games does....

jessionpc3616d ago

@jb227

Man, in the real world as you get older you need to learn how to see the forest for the trees. Experience, personality and logic can fill in so many blanks in life it's not even funny. Just be cautious how you use those abilities because they CAN be wrong...

But EVERYTHING I have ever learned is telling me NMS will get old after the 3rd or so planet you fly to. Your NOT going to explore a randomly generated planet because there is NO point. You're NOT going to care about visiting the same piece of rock that's a different color/temperature more than a few times in order to realize, "It's all the same fkn thing!"

After a planet or 2, your going to notice all the animals are from the same design, and just have random number generators attached to their limbs/colors/body part sizes etc etc etc... You will literally be able to SEE the math in motion.

Kids, being so ignorant will be able to visit 100 planets and laugh and have a great time, and i'm HAPPY for them!... But any self respecting adult should know better. You can't build, you can't create, you can barely modify and in the end? All you really do is gas up, upgrade shields and attempt to drive towards the center of a laughably overrated game world.

I want to go on record saying Proc Gen IS THE FUTURE. Someday, cities/house interiors/npc's lives will be fully randomly generated in a few clicks of a software program, and then it's ALL about programming an AI with a mission/personality/story that you play as/with...

But now?... As great as it is to see the software evolve, this isn't 10% as epic as people are making it out to be.

It's a sadness grown men can't see this.

Saito3615d ago

@Jess So, you are okay with limiting your experience and destroying the imagination. That's the true sadness. You're worse off than the men you talk about. Wow, and you're a gamer? Hardly.

n4rc3615d ago

Having to use your imagination to make a game more meaningful is a sign of a bad game IMO..

Can't you just imagine visiting other worlds? The game is made so you don't have to.

_-EDMIX-_3615d ago

No.

With a concept as unique as no man Sky they are correct to charge full price for their work.

Saito3614d ago

@n4rc you know imagination and immersion create the experience for ALL games right? You, and the people agreeing with you are lost. You understand nothing.

Considering how well Ratchet and Clank is doing (It's 18th top selling game of 2016 on Amazon), Valkyria Chronicles and Gravity Rush are also in the top 100. I think this a great idea.

Considering poor sales of Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Rise of the Tomb Raider this is a good strategy. Otherwise I don't see this title doing well on Xbone.

Gitgud3616d ago

Recore looks shit. I expected more.

I still think its a poor man's Kameo. I would have rather gotten a sequel to that than this.

babadivad3615d ago

Kameo is a homeless man's Kameo

_-EDMIX-_3615d ago

Lol I'm also disappointed by what I saw that game looks extremely dated and I'm now question the competency of the team to give a unique experience I'm no longer purchasing this game upon release.

def a day 1 here, and for $40....hell yea

King_Lothric3616d ago

After that trailer on E3, I don't expect this game to even chart on the top 5 at $30

ShaunCameron3615d ago

It will go to show that the launch price point wasn't the problem at all. If anything, the problem will be that the game wasn't interesting enough to warrant a purchase regardless.

remixx1163615d ago

No I think.it could be great, problem is MS won't push the damn thing so it's not gonna sell....

_-EDMIX-_3615d ago

@remix- I don't know if I agree with that I don't believe it to be Microsoft s fault that this game is looking the way it's looking I honestly believe this game will get a weak reception simply because its concept is not that interesting enough and it looks extremely dated.

I was worried about this game not being shown or talked about for this long and seeing the game play confirmed to me that something was deeply wrong with development this game is already looking like a classic flop I do not see this game performing well in sales, even slightly.

A lot of noise was made about this game and it looks nothing different then a regular independent game you might find on Steam and I don't mean that just based on its graphical appeal I mean that simply based on this very basic concept.

With Mighty no 9 getting questionable previews and now this it's starting to make a lot of sense why Capcom showed this man the door.

remixx1163615d ago

Hey maybe your right, we'll see when it drops, I'll probably pick up a copy myself but games like this and last guardian need exposure.

At least last guardian is getting it.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio13d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing13d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9213d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit13d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing13d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9213d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
